24.01.2022 Sad news for the Limestone Coast community this week with the loss of The Border Watch Newsgroup, which has long been a key supporter of the Support Homeless People Luncheon and voice of the community. Our thoughts are with everyone associated with the business, especially the 38 employees during this challenging time.
16.01.2022 We look forward to welcoming Rupert McCall OAM to the 2020 Support Homeless People Luncheon on October 9 at The Barn, provided restrictions to reduce the spread of COVID-19 have been lifted by then. The event was scheduled to take place this Friday, April 3, with tickets sold out and Rupert set to appear as our guest interstate emcee. While we all now have to wait for the opportunity to hear from Rupert in person, we are sure you will enjoy this touching new piece by the reno...wned poet, which is very fitting in these challenging times. All ticket sales have been transferred to the new date and our planned program for the day remains, including special guest speaker Melanie Cooper AM. We hope you are all managing to keep well amidst the uncertainty around the coronavirus and that you can still join us on October 9. Hopefully by then we will have moved on from social distancing and other important short-term requirements currently in place to stop the spread of COVID-19. In the words of Rupert, "who know what it looks like when we reach the other side, but I guarantee we will get there and our spirit won't have died." For now, "take a breath, the night will fade, the sun again will rise." See more
05.01.2022 THE organising committee for the sold-out 2020 Support Homeless People Luncheon has decided to postpone the event until 2021 due to ongoing concerns about the impact of COVID-19 in South Australia and interstate. The luncheon at the Barn Palais was previously postponed from April 3 until October 9. However, the event will be postponed further with a date still to be set in 2021 in the hope the COVID-19 situation has eased and the charity function can then proceed. Prior to th...e initial postponement, the event was sold-out with more than 500 people set to attend the major business networking luncheon and fundraiser this year. We had hoped at the time of the initial postponement we would be able to proceed in October, but have continued to monitor the unfolding COVID-19 situation in South Australia and nationally and feel it would not be responsible to proceed at this time, event chairman Barry Stafford said. On behalf of my committee, I again thank the management of The Barn Palais, our speaker Melanie Cooper AM, emcee Rupert McCall OAM, our sponsors and the businesses who have purchased tables or provided auction and raffle donations for their understanding and support. We hope we can proceed in 2021 and everything that makes this event so special will remain the same. Sadly, the event’s aim to support vulnerable people in our community is likely to be more necessary than ever due to the impacts of COVID-19." See more
05.01.2022 The Support Homeless People Luncheon focuses on raising funds to support ac.care's services in the Limestone Coast. However, you may also be interested in supporting a major project ac.care is part of in Murray Bridge to provide accommodation and other support for vulnerable youth at risk of homelessness. Check out this video for more on the initiative. Donations for the construction phase of the innovative project can be made at www.givenow.com.au/youthhousingmurraybridge We are still hopeful the 2020 Support Homeless People Luncheon can proceed on October 9 at The Barn, with tickets sold previously still valid for the new date. In the meantime, we are monitoring the lifting of COVID-19 restrictions and hope to see you all then.
01.01.2022 Rupert McCall will be our special guest interstate emcee for the 2020 Support Homeless People Luncheon on October 9 at The Barn. We look forward to welcoming him to the Limestone Coast, provided restrictions to reduce the spread of COVID-19 are able to be lifted by then. The event was previously postponed from April 3, with tickets sold out and transferred to the new date. While we all await the opportunity to gather for one of the region's key charity events and business luncheons, where we will hear from Rupert in person, we are sure you will enjoy his touching series of pieces in the lead-up to Anzac Day. We hope you are all keeping well amidst the uncertainty around COVID-19 and that you can still join us on October 9.
