22.01.2022 It's delivery day If you have been following Isaac's story you would know that at the start of 2020 he came to one of our cooking classes. I remember b...eing there and he told Greg and myself he wanted to be a chef and he would have his own restaurant. Before we knew it, Isaac had already had his roster of staff organised - I was the restaurant manager and Greg was Isaac's Chef. Fast forward to now, Isaac has been working hard at it. Isaac's Sweet Treats in one week alone, producing 800 cookies for the week. It has been humbling to see the local community get behind Isaac and support him in his new business venture. We honestly couldn't be prouder of this young mans achievements and are so privileged to be apart of his journey.

15.01.2022 Today is R U OK day so please check in with your friends and family. ... A conversation could change a life. 2020 has been a tough year to say the least, which is why it’s more important than ever to check in on your loved ones, and encourage them to talk about mental health. Today is a good reminder to ask someone R U OK?, but be sure to keep the conversation going past today and let them know they’re not alone.

10.01.2022 International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) is held on 3 December each year. IDPwD is a United Nations observed day celebrated internationally. It aims to increase public awareness, understanding and acceptance of people with disability and celebrate their achievements and contributions. The Australian Government has been supporting IDPwD since 1996 and provides funds to promote and raise awareness of the day around Australia.... Information on how you can get involved in the day as an individual or organisation and how to break down barriers (both structural and attitudinal) for people with disability can be found on this website. The annual International Day of People with Disability theme The theme for IDPwD 2020 is Building Back Better: toward a disability-inclusive, accessible and sustainable post COVID-19 World. Each year the UN announces a theme to observe for International Day of People with Disability. The annual theme provides an overarching focus on how society can strive for inclusivity through the removal of physical, technological and attitudinal barriers for people with disability. This has been occurring since 1992 when the General Assembly announced 3 December as the International Day of Disabled Persons. The National Disability Strategy 20102020 In Australia, the National Disability Strategy 20102020 commits all governments to a nationwide approach aimed at improving the lives of people with disability, their families and carers. The Strategy’s ten-year national framework for reform focuses on better inclusion for people with disability and seeks to create a society that enables people with disability to fulfil their potential as equal citizens. The Australian Government has consulted widely with people with disability, and their families and carers, to develop a National Disability Strategy for beyond 2020. As the new strategy is developed, work and consultations will continue closely with people with disability and other stakeholders. This will include further public engagement and targeted consultations in early to mid-2020 with people with disability, their families and carers, including those from diverse backgrounds and harder to reach groups.

09.01.2022 Sometimes people say or do things that can help you begin to understand how they’re feeling. But it can be hard to know if someone is just going through a rough patch or whether there might be something more serious going on. Research shows people with anxiety or depression are far more likely to attempt suicide, but stigma still prevents too many of these people from accessing support. It's time to #SmashTheStigma, stop discrimination and reach out to others. If you see t...hese warning signs in someone you know, it’s important to ask what’s going on and encourage them to seek support. To learn more about the warning signs or what to say to someone you’re concerned about visit: bb.org.au/1KBeKzn If you’re thinking about suicide it’s important to keep safe, reach out and take urgent action to seek support.
