The latest invitation round for Skilled Independent (subclass 189) and Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) (subclass 491) Family Sponsored visas, was held on 11 September 2020. 350 invites were issued for Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189) visas with a minimum point score of 65 points, and 150 invites were issued for Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) (subclass 491) Family Sponsored visas with a minimum points score of 75 points. This is an ov...erall increase of 300 invitations on the previous invitation round (August 2020). These figures do not include invitations issued for State and Territory Government nominated visa subclasses 190/491. 09.01.2022 Recently the Department of Home Affairs introduced 5 new questions on Australian values in the citizenship test. Applicants will be required to correctly answer all five of the questions on values, with a mark of at least 75 per cent overall, to pass the test. 04.01.2022 Some visas (including sc309 offshore partner and sc300 prospective marriage) require applicants to be outside of Australia at the time the visa is granted. However, the Department of Home Affairs is aware that the travel restrictions and limitations associated with COVID-19 are affecting many visa applicants, and therefore is intending to implement changes in early 2021 to allow certain family visas, which have been applied for outside Australia, to be granted while the visa... applicant is in Australia. This will allow a foreign national who is a partner of an Australian citizen to progress their visa, without having to leave the country. These changes are in addition to the Government’s decision to almost double the number of Partner visa places in 2020-21. It is expected that three quarters of these visas will go to those already onshore. Further information will be made available on the Department of Home Affairs website.
