23.01.2022 Has anyone ever seen one of these before? It is called a Kamishibai, and its a traditional form of Japanese street theatre and storytelling. It was most popular during the depression of the 1930s (pre television). Kamishibai was told by a kamishibaiya who travelled to street corners with sets of illustrated boards. They would place these inside the miniature stage-like device and narrate stories by changing each image.... This would be a fantastic addition to any classroom! Imagine how theatrical your stories could become and how engaging reading would be for the students. What a great way to incorporate Literature, History and the Arts, all in one! |#supremeincursions

23.01.2022 YEY! It’s arrived! My 2021 planner is TOTALLY amazing, I thought that I would share this gem = I’m TOTALLY in love with it! Like many other people, I’m looking to give a little time back to ME this year. This planner is not a diary, but rather a smart little book that is encouraging me to take 5 minutes out from my busy day of education. Goal reminders, positive habits, self development, ‘setting up for tomorrow’, thoughts, mindfulness etc etc. And I love all the little t...rigger words that are nicely set out on the two page spread for each day. Teacher life is so hectic! Thanks @thehouseofroutine for helping me find a little more time for me . Teachers in particular, I highlight recommend!

23.01.2022 A fun activity to do with your students!... virtually or in the classroom (yes we know, we are not kids but it was fun!) Guess The Sculpture - Working in pairs against a timer, students need to sculpt secret words using play-doh (if you are in Victoria, you might even like to post a mini play-doh with along with their secret words to every students home as a gift!) On a side note...it turns out that acodados are much harder to sculpt than they look! . | #supremeincursions

20.01.2022 A fantastic day at St Patrick’s Summer Hill Primary with the P-2! Thank you so much for having us! They have been learning about ‘Toys from the past’ and ‘How energy moves’. They learnt about where the humble Billy Cart came from, and had a go at building mini carts! ... 19.01.2022 Mindfulness, breathing techniques, resilience, dealing with emotions, healthy minds and healthy bodies are just some of the focus areas within our Mind and Body incursion. This incursion is an extremely popular booking within term 4 as teachers prepare students for moving up to their next year level's. It is also a fantastic incursion for the start of term 1. 14.01.2022 Some of our team joined us tonight to open their gifts during our social. Lots of great activities that you too can use with your family, friends, work colleagues and students. COVID-19 has made our team stronger than ever. Tonight we laughed and made the most of a difficult situation. We have an awesome team. They are empathetic, wacky and really quite weird (thats how we like them). See our previous post to steal some of our interactive ideas to build connections and laughter within your groups too .

Through distance learning you have taken on more than any child should ever have to and for... that I want to thank you!! -Thank you for knowing and understanding that every child that walks into your mommys classroom or zoom call is now also one of her kids. You inspire me to include others! -Thank you for loving her new kids as if they are your own brothers and sisters, even though you never met them. You inspire me to love deeper than the ocean! -Thank you for understanding that the art project mommy just bought isnt for you. You Inspire me to share! -Thank you for waiting one more minute because mommy needs to help a student before she helps you with your homework. You inspire me to be patient! -Thank you for doing your homework at all times of the day or on the weekend because thats when mommy isnt teaching. You inspire me to be flexible! -Thank you for waking up early to read to mommy so she can hear you before her zoom call begins. You inspire me to set routines! -Thank you for doing your distance learning work with any family member or school staff member, because mommy is teaching. You inspire me to learn from everyone! -Thank you for watching way too much YouTube while mommy is working. If you are not familiar with Rube Goldberg, he is best known for creating complicated gadgets that perform very simple tasks in indirect, convoluted ways! It is also a common interest for many teachers, especially those who are teaching grades 5 and 6. 08.01.2022 Meet Michael, aka ‘The Crazy Scientist’. This is the face behind a year long- top secret project that was initially inspired by Jeff Koons famous Balloon Dog Artwork. There has been many twist and turns along the way but Michael’s creativity and passion has seen him and his team through. 07.01.2022 Our amazingly animated Manda shares her WALL.E toy with you.WALL.E (if youre not familiar with him) is the star of the 2008 Disney Pixars animation film. Its also a film that we seriously recommend if youre looking for something fun to watch with the kids! He is a machine responsible for cleaning a waste-covered earth (it provides a great message throughout). The film also topped Time list of the "Best Movies of the DECADE!" . This is NOT an easy task, especially when teamwork or movement tasks are involved. Sadly, we have been unable to run incursions for most of term 2 and 3 in Victoria due to these challenging times. So we started pooling all of our efforts towards inspiring and supporting time-poor and exhausted teachers. So far, we have created over 30 free hands-on resources paired with procedural video clips, and we have overhauled every one of our incursions. As virtual learning continues in Victoria, our attention has turned to this one common teacher question; How can I keep students connected, engaged and challenge them collaboratively and physically?' We are proud to say, they have been tried and tested fortnightly within our own team Zoom socials (we know, a tough job right?). How are the teachers of Victoria feeling after the weekend's announcement? - Flat, exhausted, sad, angry, overworked, unmotivated?... The lack of variety and interaction is turning everything into groundhog day. These feelings resonate with teachers and students alike. But ... there is a 'twist to this tail!' (please stop ). Teachers are collaborating and supporting each other now more than ever. We are seeing creativity at its best. Teacher communities sharing their teaching ideas and pushing to the end. Here are our 5 top tips to bring back the good vibes. We have thrown in a free downloadable virtual fun resource too for good measure (for those who missed it last week): Repeat some of the lessons you have already taught in class ('say what!!?')Yup, this can help activate students' memory of being part of a community, and remind them that they are still part of one. Use hopeful and optimistic language, such as, When you come back to school This will help students look forward to coming back. Let your students know that you are there for them if they need to talk. Send them a reminder in an email, or a lovely note for the littlies. Tell them how you are shifting your schedule to deal with this new situation, that change is part of life. Humanise yourself, be light-hearted but genuine. Have fun!
