18.01.2022 Recently I discovered a post from a grower of tagastaste trees (lucerne trees ) and they arrived a day before my week away. 2 weeks ago they went in in a great hurry. Started by scraping with a tractor bucket and a quick hole with the crowbar. Yesterday, Father's Day, I finished off by drilling holes in bottom tyre, putting cardboard down to reduce weeds, mulched the area for soil improvement. ( the benefits of being an arborist with mulcher) , and added 3 tyres per tree to k...eep the plants warm and the kangaroos at bay. I then went down to the river and collected a thousand litres from the community pump station. This will make a feature of many advantages. The trick with permaculture is to choose plants with several purposes. This will create 1. A screen, 2. A nitrogen fixing plant, in a group of 76 in number, 3. A fodder plant, common name lucerne tree as it's a great food, 4. A beautiful feature when in flower thousands of creamy bell shaped flowers, 5. A wind break from hot northerly winds, 6. A visual screen. The tree in photo beside dam is an established Tagastaste tree. Hopefully in 4-5 years this will be sizeable hedge/screen . See more
