25.01.2022 With the transition across to the new branding I felt I needed to also move away from the old after glass fin plug system to a total under glass system. This me...ant that I needed to find a suitable solution to replace the rear fin plug. I found this little devilish finbox that fits the bill perfectly BUT has no jig available to guide the router. So my mission should I accept it is to work out a way to fit this tricky little box into a blank .........After strong deliberation .......I decided to build a jig have about 30 practice runs.........and then dig dig dig......... 20.01.2022 It is pretty rare for me to go surfing these days and people not ask me about my boards. They just look SO different to anything that anybody else is making. Pe...ople can spot the difference from quite a distance. So I was towelling off in the carpark at the Spit in January and this guy walked past. He glanced at my board and did a double take, returning to ask me about it. We chat for a few minutes, I tell him the design story and some of the theory and he just said right there, I want one. So we exchanged details, facebook etc. about three months later he phoned me, asked how much and promptly deposited the money, not knowing who, I was or anything about me, or even whether the boards even work . Lets face it, I am pretty much a complete unknown in the market these days. So today I delivered the product, went surfing with him to provide that next level customer service, (he even offered me a go!) Awesome! I was really worried yesterday because he told me that he is now 94 Kilos, he said 85-90not 94, he is big guy, sure, the board is 38.5 litres and 6’4 but I cut the rails really fine and the amount of rocker is almost scary even for me, The surf was pretty much rubbish wobbly little things with peaks and deadspots ... Well this guy Wade was just onto it, on his new Robster ,surfing across dead spots, coming off the top weaving all the way the beachso good to watch. Some one even asked him how he was getting across the flatspots. . Anyhow, I just wanted to thank Wade for showing amazing faith in this nutter with the VERY different designs. I put total heart and soul into this board and despite my self doubts yesterday Wade is one very happy customer. The photo is after the surf by the way! Lol! I said to him, Mate, if goes that well in that rubbish it going to go in anything. Kudos to you Wade Douglas..............thank you so much for the opportunity.

19.01.2022 Progress has been slow. Finding a source to supply fins has not been easy, until that is right at the end when I went back to first guy I asked over eighteen months ago. He originally said no so I looked into all sorts of other options including one in China which took 4 months just to get a no. So I went back to first guy who seemed who have had a change of circumstances. He had them finished in 3 weeks including redesigning the cad files. I now have beautiful beer coloured CNC cut glass fins in stock.

18.01.2022 The legend Alby Ross, riding a 5'8" x 20" x 2 7/8" 36 Lts. Hydorplane Jetfin 14 degree rocker........the proportions are adaptable can allow bigger or older guys the benefit of still riding small high performance surfboard technology or can be toned down using the same rocker and design set up for guys who want less volume. Notice the way the board has engaged the power base of the wave early and has set up several options for him right at this point .........he can go straight up for vertical snatch and grab at 90 degrees or he take the 50 degree line and hook a nice snap off the top wile staying inside the power zone. Here is what he said about the board on the 29 January 2019........ "Really hard to put into words how many little bits of magic in the board it's not far from insane"

15.01.2022 Some comments from Rocky Rawlings...........

13.01.2022 Alby on a 5"5" Jetfin. Finally some video footage. Thanks Linda.

11.01.2022 Time for an update, been meaning to post this for a while now. Its part of the story. This is what a US patent looks like. I have always wondered. The work goes on quietly behind the scenes. Now working with a few good surfers the feedback is about what it needs to be to take this thing to the next level. The slow part is making the boards ...getting the blanks getting the decals printed and pulling it all together. The hardest part seems to be getting vision of these guys surfing. But hopefully soon I will have some photos and some video............then I will start to fire up the Instagram.

09.01.2022 Pulled out my 6'2", I had not surfed it since Cloud break two years ago. Very glad I did. SO fast so drivey, the Thruster is now legacy technology....... a big statement I know..........

09.01.2022 Time for a quick update on whats been happening with the Jetfin project. For the last 4 months or so I have been working with one of my old team riders, who incidentally still rips, (I will mention who it is in a later post as this is just a general update) had a few things to tie off with the general board design, there is a lot more innovation in the boards apart from the Jetfin concept, so I just finish those and tidy up. The good news is that the feedback on the whole p...ackage is now pretty much exactly what I was looking for and working towards for the past several years. "He", my test rider, has about 25 of his own boards some of them "beautiful", in his words, but he NOW only wants to ride the Jetfin. He says, "its as good as a really good Thruster but with an edge that allows you to do things that a thruster can't do". Pretty cool eh!. So that answers my question, "does anyone else think it has the merit that I think it has"? Since locating a reliable quality source to produce my fins, I have been working on the presentation which isn't yet finished but is sufficiently advanced for me to roll over to the new branding which "he" is now riding. I will be posting some photos and more updates over the coming days as time permits so stay tuned.

08.01.2022 Glen Rocky Rawlings, Gold Coast surfing royalty, media tart all round good bloke. 6’1x 20 x 2/78 40 litres, Hydroplane Jetfin with 13 degree rocker. I was head shaper at Kirra Surf late 1998 through late 2001, we had a great team that included Rocky Rawlings, Shane Powell on the CT, Will Lewis on the QS. Rocky and I hooked up again about 18 months ago we caught up here briefly for a fin exchange. He’s been riding this board for about nine months. #surfboards #surfboarddesign #kirrasurf

08.01.2022 everything is new again

05.01.2022 The US Patent has been granted

05.01.2022 My new 5’ 8; I am excited about this board more than any of the one hundred plus boards that I have made in the process of developing the five brand new concep...ts embedded in these designs. I have been careful not to give too much away in the photos, hopefully just enough to show the craftsmanship and presentation. Most other sizes are already finished, but my old 5’8 is a couple of years old now and the technology has come a long way since then. This new one pulls everything together for that size, including the fine adjustments. The 5’8 is my favourite size, the board just fits into the wave so well yet at 36 litres carries up to 85 Kg really well. I am 80kg. It has a distributed nose rocker so paddling is a breeze, 14 degree turning rocker, Jet fin, with deep Hydroplane. The goal of these designs is acceleration out of the turn. In other words I want a board that increases speed when I turn it, not one that burns speed off in turns. So I want to extract as much speed as possible from the wave, then build on that each time I put the board on its rail. That’s important because if you exit a turn faster than you enter it, you set up your next turn sooner. So you are essentially ahead of the game. Feed back is now very strong from my test riders, in fact Alby went off surfing a thruster for a while, that some shaper gave him. He jumped back on my 5’5 and texted me saying he had forgotten how fast you could go on a surfboard. Since then I have made a few minor adjustments to fin size and positioning. I just spoke to him again on the phone and he is pretty stoked for an old bloke who still surfs really well. . Lol. See more
