16.01.2022 SBA Update regarding face masks. With face masks becoming mandatory across Victoria as of Monday, we ask all of our basketball community including spectators, team officials, staff and players 12 years and older, to please wear a mask on arrival and departure from all venues, as well as inside the venue. Players and officials may remove their masks during competition. We thank our community for helping keep us safe.

Pronounced word-ee by-err and meaning 'big gathering place' in Wadawurrung, this will be our new home and the heart of the Surfcoast Chargers Get excited Chargers, the countdown is on for the new year and the new stadium (this is a sneak peak planned to be open at the end of January). 15.01.2022 Surfcoast Basketball Association Inc. (SBA) is seeking applications to fill multiple Biosafety Officer positions to assist in the safe resumption of Junior Basketball Competitions held in Torquay. SBA is aiming to resume Junior Competitions in late-July and is guided by Basketball Victoria (BV) in the safe return to sport for all participants. To monitor and manage the reactivation of the sport, BV has committed to the Victorian Government that all venues will have a nominate...d Biosafety Officer (BSO) whenever a venue is in use. SBA seeks to fill multiple Biosafety Officers positions. These are paid positions. The purpose of these positions is to: Monitor and report on a venues compliance to BVs Return to Sport Guidelines (RTS Guidelines); Record the number of people within a venue at a time; Minimise the risk of person to person transmission of COVID-19 within a venue; and, Provide necessary information to the Association in the event of a positive COVID-19 test from one of the participants. 14.01.2022 *** IMPORTANT INFORMATION *** MONDAY 3rd WEDNESDAY 5th AUGUST: Games will proceed as scheduled! THURSDAY 6th FRIDAY 7th AUGUST: Games are cancelled.... It was great to see our junior basketballers return to court last week. We thank you all for your support to make this happen. However, in line with todays announcement from the Victorian Government, our last junior basketball games within our domestic competition will be played this week from Monday to Wednesday only. From midnight Wednesday 5th August, all other games after this time are cancelled until further notice. The SBA awaits guidance from Basketball Victoria in relation to the appropriate processes and we will share this information as it becomes available. We thank you again for your support and it has been great to see the kids back on court, albeit briefly. However we will return!

13.01.2022 We have wrapped up our mini domestic competition and want to thank everyone who got involved. Over the two weeks we managed to get 42 games underway and approx 200 players on the court at very short notice, as well as holding our Chargers rep squad tryouts. A big thank you to our committee and volunteers for their efforts and our CSOs, BSOs and refs for getting on board to allow this to happen. A massive thank you though goes out to YOU our members. Thanks for putting your ha...nds up knowing it was only for two weeks, we are very grateful to team managers, coaches and parents for getting players organised at short notice. We hope that everybody loved getting back on the courts and seeing out 2020 with lots of basketball fun. We are excited to welcome you back next year into our new stadium Wurdi Baierr!! 12.01.2022 IMPORTANT INFORMATION!! Our junior domestic basketball returns this week and we want to make sure you are ready to get back on the court. PLAYER REGISTRATION Team managers, please ensure all of your players are registered. Players will be unable to take the court if they havent registered. Ensure you have sent the registration link to all of your members and make sure they confirm their registration with you.... FIXTURES Fixtures are getting completed now and will be available on the Play HQ website as they are ready. https://www.playhq.com//surfcoast-basketball-asso/1dd58ead TEAM SHEET FEES Team sheet fees will be payable via Try Booking this season. There will be no cash payments accepted. This is available for whole team payments only, not individual payments. Team managers will need to collect player fees and then pay the team sheet fee via Try Booking each week. Receipt of payment must be shown at stadium entry before each game. Bookings will open the Saturday prior to each week with credit card payment or Paypal available. 12.01.2022 RETURN TO COMPETITION The following maps give an overview of how you will enter and exit the stadiums as we return to competition this week. At each venue, there will be a Bio-Safety Officer (BSO) to make sure we are all doing the right thing. Please follow their direction and read the signage provided. Remember to not arrive at your venue more than 10 minutes before your scheduled game as you will not be allowed access until the previous participants have left and sanitisation has been completed. We thank our Surfcoast community for their cooperation and helping us get back to playing the game we love.

11.01.2022 We welcomed our U10 boys back tonight and they didnt fail to entertain. There were head bands, mullets, long socks and plenty of attempts at goal! The Tornadoes put up a great fight against the Mini bolts in their first game and we cant wait to see their improvement over the season

10.01.2022 Today we got confirmation from BV that the State Government will allow junior competitions to re-commence (subject to change, of course). We are still, however, waiting for the Ed. Dept. to confirm that we can access our stadiums on school grounds. This week weve sent all junior Team Managers an email asking if their teams would be interested in a mini-season held during Term 3. If there is enough interest, and if we can get access to enough courts, and if were still allow...ed - we will do our best to get juniors back on court. Seniors (including U23s) - hang tight - theyre talking about a possible return to competition in late July. Cant wait! See more

04.01.2022 Chargers Challenge! To encourage you to practice basketball while we are all at home, we have created a printable calendar for you to mark off or colour in on the days you have practiced. Each week we will also post a particular skill or drill that will help keep up your skills whilst we cant train or play. Whether you practice your shooting, dribbling or defense, it doesnt matter as long as you get a ball in your hand and keep active. If you have any videos or photos you want to share please send them in. Look out for our new challenge posts each week and lets keep the chargers spirit bright during lockdown

In the new year we will also be endeavouring to offer competitions that will engage more of the community and ensure inclusion and diversity.
