22.01.2022 GOLD COAST FISHING REPORT 10/11th October 2020 GOLD COAST OFFSHORE FISHING. Let’s hope the weather guys have it correct for this Sunday morning with 10-15 knot...s of southerly forecast making offshore fishing conditions ok. Based on the moon phase and tides it will be an early morning bite till around midday. Reports this last week include plenty of Tailor and Treg Jew in on the close reefs and a few Snapper and Parrot fish. On the 36 fathom reefs both northeast and east the current has picked up a bit and the Snapper have been biting well at first light on both baits and Jigs. Treg, Pearl Perch, Parrot fish and the odd Cobia have also been biting. Try the 36fathom reefs for Dolphinfish with Pillies or livies. Customers have also been catching them casting 100-140mm Stickbait lures for some awesome fun. The Dolphinfish will also take trolled 6-8inch skirts as well, AWESOME fun catching Dolphinfish and so nice to eat. Whilst talking about Stickbaits and lure fishing, check out some of the GT’s in the pictures below that Michael caught around some of our local rock outcrops that lie between Pt.Lookout and Tweed Heads. Now back to bottom fishing and jigging, again it’s all been happening out on the 50 fathom reefs with the Snapper still biting hard, and the Pearl Perch, Yellowtail Kingfish and Amberjack still stacked up at times. The fads our along the 50 fathom reefs are definitely producing Dolphinfish, which are averaging 1mtr plus and more common. As each week goes on and the water temperature increases we will see a building up of both numbers and sizes on Dolphinfish on most of the fads 36 fathoms and 50 fathoms. Try trolling smaller skirted lures at 7-9 knots and with the lures placed 80-100 mtrs behind your boat, often this works if the Dollies are too timid to bite on WA Pilly baits or live baits. With this weekends Gold Coast Gamefish Club’s 2020 SHOOTOUT MARLIN COMPETITION being held , expect to see some big Blues and lots of Yellowfin Tuna caught on Sunday. Within this past week, we have seen some solid Yellowfin Tuna and Blue Marlin caught, just like the 600+lb one that Nick and Ben Caelli caught last weekend. The Tuna been schooling up from around 300mtrs deep and beyond. Look for the birds and troll deep diving lures and skirted lures at 8 knots and at least 60 mtrs behind your boat. Also on the Marlin scene there have been a few Black Marlin and Striped Marlin caught this past week whilst live baiting and bottom fishing from in close on the 24’s to our on the 50 fathom reefs. Those Big Spanner Crabs are still definitely on the chew with some quality crabs being caught around the 50mtr depth east of Surfer Paradise. Try around that S 2800 E 15333. Get out there before the closer starts at the end of this month. Check out our YouTube Page video on Doug Burts Fishing on how to catch the crabs easily, Thankyou. JUMPINPIN AND NORTHERN BROADWATER... It’s been another week of awesome fishing around the Jumpinpin for Flathead after the recent 2020 Flattie Dash held last weekend. With over 1400 Flathead caught on lures and all released, during the weekend from some 300 Anglers, gives us some idea that there are lots of Flatties out there at the moment. Get up onto those flats at high tide and cast some floating shallow running lures, cast hard up towards the bank edges and over the weed patches, try Gold Bank and the shallow bay on the northeastern corner of Crusoe Island. Soft plastics are the go when the tide is either near low or high with not much run in it, focus on fishing the deep around Swan Bay, eastern side Duck Creek and the deeper north eastern side of Crusoe Island. Pandanus Island and the banks opposite the old Bedroom are always fishing well at this time of the season casting soft plastics. Also try casting soft plastics around the entrance of Wally’s Gutter and Tipplers Channel which also both fish great at this time of the year. Try around the inside of the Jumpinpin Bar for Tailor, look for the birds that are generally working between the northern tip of South Stradebroke Island and the north eastern point of Crusoe island. Generally casting metals or stick baits and trolling lures works well, and please be sure that your Tailor are at least 35cm in size. There are still a few Tailor along the beaches of South Stradebroke Island at the moment and the fishing will improve when the wind goes to the south on Sunday afternoon. Plenty of Bream were caught again this past week around Crusoe and Short Islands and along the bank at Kalinga Bank. There are Whiting around Gold Bank’s eastern edges and try the western side of Kalinga Bank in the narrow channel, Yabbies and worms are best baits. Try for Sand Crabs throughout Tipplers Channel and around the Slipping Sands area, overnight is best. Some words if Banaba Prawns already starting to be caught in the Logan River . BROADWATER AND BEACHES Some decent Flatties being caught along the inside of the north wall of the Seaway and all the way up to the trees. Other species being caught in the Seaway at the moment amongst them include Tailor, Trevally, Bream and the odd Jew. Plenty of quality sized Flathead are also showing up along the south wall of the Seaway and around the shallow banks at high tide opposite Labrador. The beach fishing this past week has been ok with catches of Tailor, Flathead and Bream. Same scenario as always, get the bait out for the afternoon fish and get the lures casting for the mornings and daytime fishing. Best areas have been along the Spit, anywhere from opposite the Mirage Carpark, Narrowneck and all the way to the Focus hi rise building at Surfers and down towards Mermaid Beach. Great to see the boys onboard Brad smiths charters are back into the Arrow in the channels and a few punters catching Tiger Squid around the many weed beds along the western foreshore of the Broadwater, Wavebreak Island and Crab Island at the moment. Fishing further north in the BROADWATER for Flathead, try around Crab Island, The Aldershots, Browns Inlet and along the southern end of South Stradebroke Island around Currigee. Still the odd quality sized Parrot fish being caught drifting the shelly bottom along the main western channel of the Broadwater, from Sovereign Island to Biggera Creek. Yabbies or Preserved beach worms have also been working well to catch them. Plenty of Diver Whiting throughout the main channels of the mid to northern end of the Broadwater and are commonly caught whilst drifting for the Parrotfish at the moment. The tides are coming good again on Sunday Monday late arvos to catch those quality sized Whiting up in the Nerang river. Fish till after night around the council chambers, and along Bundal and Sorrento straights. Mangrove Jacks are starting to fire up with this warmer weather. Try around most of your favorite canal systems, bridges and pontoons. For a feed of Sand Crabs, try around Sovereign Island both east and west side along the deep channel edges, overnight is best. SOUTHERN GOLD COAST AND BEACHES. A few Trevally being caught on surface lures and plastics around the land lakes that feed off the canals from Burleigh Heads to the Tweed. Fish early morning and late arvo works best. There have been some good catches of Sea Bream, Flathead and Dart in the surf at the moment. Bream are also being caught along the rock walls throughout the Tweed Rivers and the creeks south of Burleigh Heads. Best baits in the surf are WA Pilchards for the Tailor and Yabbies, Pippies, Beach Worms and cut up WA Pilchards for everything else. Try around Cabarita, New Brighton and south of Ballina. A few decent Flathead around the sandbanks and weed patches from the Hospital to the bar walls inside of the Tweed River and also between the two highway bridges on both the Tallebudgera and Currumbin creeks. Try casting soft plastics up current and hopping them back towards you with slight lifts of your rod. FRESHWATER DAMS With such closeness to the Gold Coast , you just have to get out your Bass gear and head for a fish at our local Hinze Dam. It is full on producing producing some quality sized big fat Bass at the moment, with fish in that high 50cm being caught last weekend. They go like the clappers and are such a beautiful fish, check out some of the fish caught last weekend by some of our customers and staff Dean and his brother Nate. If you are fishing in the Somerset Dam, try for Redclaw in the shallows around old timber in 1.5-2.5 mtrs deep. For the Bass, look for them schooled up on the hills underwater and fish them either with jigs or trolling deep diving lures that can get down around 6 mtrs deep. Redclaw also in Maroon Dam in that 2.5-3 mtr depth. WHATS ON!! LOTS OF NEW PRODUCTS ARRIVING DAILY INTO OUR STORE. 21.01.2022 GOLD COAST FISHING REPORT 21st/22nd November 2020 GOLD COAST OFFSHORE ... The Dolphinfish are really starting to pile into our awesome bay, here on the Gold Coa...st. With the government fads really starting to kick into gear with Dollies stacking up at each fad and randomly anywhere outside of 40 mtrs deep, and as each day goes on and the water gets warmer, and the pelagic fishing gets hotter This past couple of days has seen many Dolphinfish caught along the 36 fathoms and 50fathom reefs and out further on the deep water grounds. There have also been some quality fish starting to show up along our 40-50mtr depth out front of the Seaway this past week. Check out some of the Dolphinfish pictures below from True Blue fishing charters off the local close in reefs this past week. There have been a few small Black Marlin and Stripped Marlin caught along the local 24 fathom reefs and out to the 50 fathom reefs this past week as well. As I always say at this time of the year, spend more time looking at the water for any floating debris rather then looking at sounder .... because if you find something decent floating in the water like a tree or a crate or anything, it will be like winning lotto for a pelagic fisherman... Endless Dolphinfish, Wahoo, Rainbow Runners, Marlin and other awesome fish to catch. Ok, let’s get back to the bottom fishing. In close it’s been a bit quiet for Snapper, with Tailor stealing baits and plastics intended for the Snapper. Out on the 36 fathom reefs it’s been better fishing for the Snapper, with a few Mmm around that 50-65 size, as well as parrotfish, Treg Jew and the odd Kingie to be caught. Try north east 50 fathoms if you want to get in amongst those big 20+ kilos kingies, either jigging or with live baits. The Current is running at around 1.5 knots at the moment and the water is slowly heating up to 24+ degrees out around the 50fathom reefs. Out wider the water is slightly warmer and the Blue Marlin are enjoying it. The bottom fishing over 300mtrs deep has been good, with Bar Cod, Bass Grouper and Blue Eye Cod biting at the moment JUMPINPIN AND NORTHERN BROADWATER... At the moment the Jumpinpin is all about Whiting and Flathead and the odd Tailor. For Flathead around the Pin, cast soft plastics over the edges of steeper weedy banks and in the shallows over and around the weed patches. Try Gold Bank and the shallow bay on the northeastern corner of Crusoe Island. Soft plastics on lighter 1/6 to 1/4oz are the go when the tide is either near low or high with not much run in it, focus on using 1/2 to 1oz when fishing the faster running water in the deep around Swan Bay, eastern side Duck Creek and the deeper north eastern side of Crusoe Island. Try also trolling around Pandanus Island and the banks opposite the old Bedroom, which are also fishing well at this time of the season if you cast soft plastics. Also try casting soft plastics around the northern entrance of Wally’s Gutter. There are still a few Tailor along the beaches of South Stradebroke Island. Plenty of Bream were caught again this past week around Crusoe and Short Islands and along the bank at Kalinga Bank. As we said earlier there have been lots of Whiting and they are coming out from around Gold Bank’s eastern edges, the bays and main channel at the end of South Straddie and size average is huge at the moment. Also try the western side of Kalinga Bank in the narrow channel, Yabbies and worms are best baits. Try for Sand Crabs throughout Tipplers Channel and around the Slipping Sands area, overnight is best. Banana Prawns already starting to be caught in the Logan River. BROADWATER AND BEACHES This past week the Jewies have been fairly consistent in the Seaway with some quality fish in the 90cm-1.10Mtrs in size and a few smaller ones mixed in with them. Fish live baits on the north wall of the seaway during the last of the run out tide, which is early morning and late afternoon this weekend. The other species to target is Jacks, schooling up throughout the canals, seaway and deeper River bends that hold structure..Also try along the rock walls of the Seaway. Tailor are still biting occasionally , try anywhere from opposite the Mirage Carpark, Narrowneck and all the way to the Focus hi rise building at Surfers and down towards Mermaid Beach. Fishing further north in the BROADWATER for Flathead, try around Crab Island, The Aldershots, Browns Inlet and along the southern end of South Stradebroke Island around Currigee. For Whiting, try around Budds Beach, the Council Chambers and Sorrento Straight. Plenty of GT’s and Big eye Trevally in the rivers at night , casting poppers and stickbaits work best, fish the run out tide. For a feed of Sand Crabs, try around Sovereign Island both east and west side along the deep channel edges, overnight is best. SOUTHERN GOLD COAST AND This weekend it’s worth a try in the surf for Whiting and Dart in the close in gutters. There have been the odd Sea Bream, Flathead and Tailor in the surf at the moment as well. Bream are also being caught along the rock walls throughout the Tweed Rivers and the creeks south of Burleigh Heads. Best baits in the surf are WA Pilchards for the Tailor and Yabbies, Pippies, Beach Worms and cut up WA Pilchards for everything else. Maybe around Cabarita, New Brighton and south of Ballina. A few decent Flathead around the sandbanks and weed patches from the Hospital to the bar walls inside of the Tweed River and also between the two highway bridges. Try for Whiting around the Tumbulgum Bridge and heading south to the sugar mill. FRESHWATER DAMS Again it’s been an amazing week for some solid Hinze Dam Bass... Bass Bass Bass... As I keep saying.. with such closeness to the Gold Coast , you just have to get out your Bass gear and head for a fish at our local Hinze Dam. It is full on, producing awesome quality big fat Bass at the moment. For the Bass, look for them schooled up on the hills underwater and fish them either with jigs or trolling deep diving lures that can get down around 6 mtrs deep. As far as we know ( but the law may have changed again ), that you can take your outboard on the Hinze Dam.... you must disconnect the fuel line and of course have an electric outboard on your boat just to get around the Dam. WHATS ON!! Don’t forget about our HUGE BLACK FRIDAY SALE starts next Friday , keep an eye out tor a list of deals on Facebook during this week!! EVERYDAY THIS WEEK, WE RECEIVED HEAPS OF NEW PRODUCTS ARRIVING DAILY INSTORE. This week..
