25.01.2022 Its c-section birth awareness month, here is some good info! Repost @the.vagina.whisperer CESAREAN SCAR MASSAGE If you have experienced a Cesarean Birth, working on your scar can be incredibly healing physically and emotionally. Unfortunately most mommas arent educated on when and how to perform this or that they even should! Recent research found that scar tissue restriction from an abdominal or cesarean scar can contribute to pelvic pain, painful sex, const...ipation and bowel issues, overactive bladder, incomplete bladder emptying and scar sensitivity. So mommas who have had Cesarean births may still experience what we consider to be pelvic floor problems. This is what we do as Pelvic Health PTs. We educate women on how rehab their abs and pelvic floors after pregnancy AND to desensitize their scars to promote sensation and decrease numbness AND massage their scars to minimize restriction and tightness which can lead to pain and peeing and pooping problems down the line. Its NEVER too late to work on your Cesarean scar. Whether its 6 weeks, 6 months, or 6 years its NEVER too late. #torquay #physio #physiotherapy #torquayphysio #womenshealth #pregnancy #postnatal #pilates #pelvicfloor #pelvichealth #cesarean #cesareanscar #csection #csectionrecovery #pelvicpain #pelvicfloordysfunction #cesareanbirthawarenessmonth #thevaginawhisperer

22.01.2022 Something to consider with the warmer weather....

21.01.2022 Mama, its OK to grieve the loss of a normal pregnancy, of hospital antenatal classes and catching up with your friends for coffee and walks. Its OK to feel ...sad that your baby shower has been cancelled I know you were looking forward to it. Youre allowed to be disappointed that your Babymoon your last trip before welcoming your new addition - wont happen now. Mama, its OK to cry because your big boy or big girl wont be able to meet their new baby sibling in the hospital. Its OK to be upset that your friends and family wont be able to visit you after birth or that it might be some time before they can hold your baby in their arms. Mama, its OK to grieve your village, to feel down that mothers groups have been cancelled at a time when you need them most. Its OK to feel sad that so many of your plans for maternity leave have changed and youre learning how to be a mum in this strange new normal. Its OK to feel that the magic of this time has been stolen from you - while also being grateful for it, too. Its okay to grieve. Your feelings are valid and so are your tears. Youre not alone Art by Rita Navarro https://www.cope.org.au

14.01.2022 Thank you to the close to 300 local women I have had the privilege of seeing for physiotherapy over the last 2 years! It is now time for me to practice what I preach and take some time off to have baby no 2 I will leave you in the very capable hands of Lucy for treatment over the next few months but as I’ve said to so many of you recently, please do get in touch via email if you have any concerns, I might just take a bit longer than usual to reply . Apologies too to any of our new clients who are having to wait a little while longer than usual for appointments, we are doing our best to see you all as quickly as we can! I look forward to seeing you all again next year, let’s hope 2021 has a bit more fun and socialisation in store for us all! Lynne xx flowers from a lovely client!

13.01.2022 Surf coast mamas! I am back up and running! For those of you who had to pause treatment due to COVID 19, you should have had an email from me recently about booking back in online bookings are live and due to the surprising success of telehealth, Ill be keeping that option open too for anyone who is interested. In other exciting news, Im expecting my second baby! Im 20 weeks pregnant so if any of you have been meaning to book in for physio, now is the time whilst we still have time for rehab before Im off on mat leave. Im madly trying to succession plan to keep services up and running but us womens health physios are few and far between.... if you know of anyone, send them my way! Lynne xx

13.01.2022 Good quality research from The Lancet allows us to give some specific advice in relation to sleeping position during pregnancy, here are the main take home points for pregnant women from 28 weeks: Settle to sleep on your side to reduce the risk of stillbirth Start every sleep on your side including day-time naps It does not matter which side you go to sleep on It is common to wake up on your back dont worry- just roll back on to your side

12.01.2022 The mermaid is such a great movement for our pre and postnatal mammas. It gives you a lovely opening stretch up the side of your body and has a great variation to add in to some upper back rotation which stops you getting stiff and sore and counteracts the positions we are in for feeding babies. This one is frequently used in our physio rehab sessions! Lulu Loves Photography

12.01.2022 Great news on the easing of COVID 19 restrictions for our expectant mums and their birth partners!

09.01.2022 We continually strive to get all women access to womens health physiotherapists (and other perinatal professionals) during pregnancy and postpartum, this should be standard to prevent existing and future repercussions of carrying and birthing their babies. lets help get well known and accessible services up and running!

06.01.2022 Repost @mypelvicfloormuscles Did you know that what you eat and drink may negatively affect your bladder? What affects your bladder may vary from person to person. Some may be sensitive to dairy and not spicy foods or vice versa. ... The effects on your bladder may vary from person to person. Some may have burning or pain, some may have a strong urge to empty, some may have leaking and more! If you are having bladder issues, book in for a pelvic floor consultation and lets get you on the road to recovery!

05.01.2022 Dear Surfcoast community, I am closing my physical clinic doors as of today to do my part in minimizing the spread of COVID 19 but am still available for phone or video consultations. For anyone who is pregnant, in pain or anyone with distressing symptoms please do get in touch as I will still be consulting with increased caution while government regulations allow me to do so. For those of you with appointments, I will be in touch over the next few days to outline our options.... During this time, I will be minimising social media posts, particularly in relation to COVID 19 as there is so much misinformation out there and a frenzy of information on your news feed can be overwhelming and increase anxiety. Please go to the WHO or Australian government websites for the most up to date and factual advice. I will be staying home with my 2 year old (heaven help me! ) and trying to see the silver lining in what is an unprecedented situation. I loved this quote for its positivity at such a strange time and am certainly going to use this unique time to do all the things Im too busy to in normal life. Im still here to discuss any of your pre, postnatal and pelvic floor concerns, meantime, stay safe, enjoy the rest and Ill see you all on the other side!! See more

03.01.2022 Pilates is a great form of exercise for pregnant and postnatal populations because it is low impact and has great focus on strength, control and mobility, all 3 of which are adversely affected by carrying and delivering a baby! It is a safe exercise to start at any point in pregnancy (with consent from your GP or obstetrician) and 6-10 weeks after birth. Photo credit: @lululovesphotography

01.01.2022 Spikeys! Great for getting in to tight spots before or after training a muscle group. Not the most comfortable of treatments but combined with rehab exercises can really compliment the overall feeling of improvement in a physio rehab session. Come and see us and we will show you how!
