21.01.2022 Proud Aussie moment? While 125 countries worldwide have adopted (or are at least seriously considering) various net-zero carbon targets, the Australian federal government still opposes the notion (even with all state and territories coming to the party) #climatekooks Internationally, Uruguay leads the charge with an aim to hit the goal by 2030, Japan by 2050 joining United Kingdom and the European Union. Net zero by 2050 would require the world to reduce emissions by 40 p...er cent over the next decade. So we gotta get moving. A simple feel-good thing to do is add your voice to the @climateactnow act, and continue to push Australia toward a sustainable future Photo by @philgallagherphoto #surfersforclimate See more

20.01.2022 It ain’t the time anymore to kook it on climate. https://surfersforclimate.org.au/join-us 90% of the extra heat created by climate change is absorbed by our oceans, expanding as they warm, radically changing the nature of our waves. ... Do we want our favourite spots to become fading memories of waves we used to surf? We’re calling on each and every one of us - roughly 35 million surfers in lineups around the globe - to get active and unite together to protect our blue planet. No matter what or how you ride a wave, we all share a voice that counts Photo by Chris Peel #surfersforclimate #thenewlocalism See more

09.01.2022 Surfing towards better days? With the wipeout of Trump, there will no longer be a climate change denier in the White House come January 20. How will this effect Australia and it’s lack of commitment in reducing carbon emissions? The @climate_act_now campaign will hopefully align Australia with some decent targets. Climate change should not be determined by how progressive or conservative a party or individual is. The science has spoken.... Australia can no longer cling to the excuse that our emissions are insignificant globally. Countries of all sizes are committing to tackle climate change and if Australia wants to be taken seriously it’s time we did the same. Let’s get out of the impact zone. 08.01.2022 Who gets Solar froth? The NSW government has a transition plan to renewable energy for the state, with the Central West and New England being Australia’s first renewable energy zones by 2030. This move will create thousands of jobs, making regional communities more sustainable long term, and bustin’ down the door to NSW becoming an energy froth-lord - lining up with the states net-zero emissions by 2050. ... https://www.smh.com.au//nsw-s-ambitious-plan-to-become-ren Photo by Jarrah Lynch of Russell Bierke.

05.01.2022 The central and eastern parts of the tropical Pacific Ocean are in a predicted La Niña cycle declared by the Bureau of Meteorology, which means surface winds in the tropics will be cooler with stronger trade winds. La Niña, which means the girl in Spanish, typically causes increased rainfall, cooler daytime temperatures (south of the tropics), shifts in temperature extremes, and potentially a few more cyclone swells. Beyond the stoked of potential better wave forecas...ts, how is climate change effecting the El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO), which is the dominant and most consequential climate phenomenon affecting extreme weather, ecosystems, and agriculture around the world? Global warming could cause a 20% increase in the areas impacted by temperature changes and extremes during ENSO events, and a 10% increase in the areas impacted by precipitation changes during ENSO events. The next big question is whether climate change brings these impacts to entirely new regions, to places that have never before been affected? It’s now in the hands of Huey, the fictional god of surfing. 05.01.2022 We gotta move quick here. Petroleum Exploration Permit 11 (PEP-11) is up for debate in Federal Parliament. There’s a solid chance we can get it shut down, but requires further people power. Here’s what you can do. Sign the Petition to stop PEP-11: https://www.change.org/p/stop-blasting-or-drilling-for-oil-... Or email your local representative to stop PEP-11: https://www.saveourcoast.org.au/stop-pep-11/ A horizon of filthy oil rigs is something none of us want.
