25.01.2022 Data published in the February ABF newsletter has shown that we currently have the joint largest membership attrition rate of the top 20 Australian clubs (along with Trumps Bridge Center). It shows a -4% drop for 2018-19 and an overall rate of -14% between 2012 and 2019. Comments?

23.01.2022 Book your session, sign a declaration, have your temperature taken, take a free microfibre cleaning cloth and make sure you keep regulation social distancing. Easy as that, to get back to playing Bridge again at the club.

23.01.2022 ! by Frank Hymus. I know that we all sometimes take playing in a trump suit for granted, and often pull trumps and then look around for things to do for extra tricks. Yes, we should always stop at trick one and think about what needs to be done to make our contract. There are many ways to go about the business of a trump contract, but one thing is common to all trump contracts....Continue reading

20.01.2022 For players wishing to get back to club sessions, but may have (for various reasons) regular partners not wishing to do so, should try the partner finder. Link:https://www.facebook.com/groups/2568765410073364/?source_id=867754950000524

16.01.2022 As per information posted on our web site, the club is closed until further notice in relation to the coronavirus situation. We will keep you posted as to when sessions recommence. In the meantime, stay safe, and play Bridge online.

14.01.2022 Two popular free Bridge playing digital resources are: FunBridge & BridgeBaseOnline. Both feature free to play deals, together with subscriptions. AI (artificial intelligence) robots are your partners and opposition. However, the caveat is that you have to adapt to robot bidding and play. ... https://www.funbridge.com/ https://www.bridgebase.com/ See more

14.01.2022 ’ . . by Frank Hymus. This is often the first thing we see when we start playing bridge. It is almost so basic that I hesitate to make it a separate theme. But even here, I see players getting into trouble with the basic situation. Here is a very easy hand to start....Continue reading

10.01.2022 Whilst there seems to be no short term solution to the current crisis, some of you may have received emails recently from the ABF regarding club on-line play in partnership with BBO (Bridge Base Online). After serious consideration, SPBC has made the decision not to participate in the program due to lack of director expertise in the digital domain. Further, until the current restriction of social distancing is lifted, the club remains closed until the ABF deems it safe to resume operations.

09.01.2022 The club is trialing new restricted sessions (usually Orange colour group) as from the 1st March 2020, The new sessions are: Mondays 12:20pm start - approx finish 4pm. 02.01.2022 -. Dear Member The committee, together with Head of Directors (Bob Wales ) met last week and have formulated a plan to re -open upon Stage 3 restrictions being implemented - which at this stage is .... We are taking a conservative approach to re - opening of our Club. We are subject to many restrictions. As we are entering unchartered territory it is going to take some time before we understand what will work. For that, we ask for your patience. We will review procedures weekly. Later this week we will post on our website our re - opening guidelines. Health requirements : If you are unwell, please DO NOT come to Bridge. Be aware, if you display any of the following symptons : fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose, headache, fatigue, difficulty breathing and you arrive at Bridge - we will send you home or to your G P. Symptoms may also include loss of taste and/or smell. Each playing day every player will have to provide a Health Declaration upon entry - your temperature will be recorded on this form. You will supply your own pen / pencil. There will be - NO Kitchen - NO coffee / tea break. NO use of refrigerators. NO Hot or Cold Water. NO cash accepted - all payments by EFTPOS ( tap and go ). No air - conditioning. NO coffee machine. Your will need to provide any drinks / food you may wish to consume - but you also need to take all personal items etc home with you. Bidding boxes will be used - they are being placed on a 3 - day cycle, as are the Bridgemates. Cards will also be rested for 3 days before being re - dealt. You will have to wash or sanitise your hands many times - we will provide both alcohol and non - alcohol based sanitiser at every table. As we have no idea how many members are planning on playing and we are limited to 24 tables, we shall, in due course, advise how you can pre - book. Therefore, NO walk - ins. To those members who have offered their card - tables we will open the Club during the first week of July so that they can be delivered. Again, a huge thanks to those members - without these tables we would be restricted to 16 tables ! I apologise for the many NO's - lets hope that over the following weeks we are able to eliminate them and return to something approaching normal again. I shall forward more information as we approach opening. Kind regards to you all - Michael Main (President )

02.01.2022 . Here is a copy of the recently sent email from the club president: Dear Member.... Good afternoon all - Firstly, I wish to thanks those who have offered the use of their card tables - we now have some 92/93 tables. During this week I will contact you to arrange for them to be delivered to the Club. We can still use another 8/9 tables. To further clarify how we will start up - There will be 4 tables in a square - 1 person per table - 1.5 metres between each player. There will be a protocol based largely on how the Mackay Bridge Club has opened - this is available for viewing at the following link: https://qldbridge.com.au/mackayRestart.php. We hope to have our paperwork finalised later this week. Our room has a capacity for slightly more than 100 people under social distancing regulations. I would hope that later this week we shall be able to provide a guide as to how and when we will open. We will all need to be aware that all rules and regulations must be strictly adhered to - there can be NO breaches. We are aware that many of you have missed the social interaction provided by bridge, but we have to work carefully through the process so that we meet all Government requirements to legally open. This includes the lifting of restrictions to 100 people meeting indoors. Michael Main (President )
