22.01.2022 'Behind The Lens' - We sat down with @joshbystrom who shared with us his favorite surfing shots. Check out the full feature on our website! "This shot was taken at Kirra during Cyclone Gita. Gita was unreal because it brought a solid swell with light westerly winds which is almost unheard of. This particular sequence you could’ve chosen any of the 20 shots, It was just such a perfect well ridden wave by Parko. I remember shooting it from the water and just going ‘please please please be sharp’. Lucky for me it was!"

22.01.2022 Cyclone Swell! 'Behind The Lens' with Josh Bystrom - "This shot was taken during Cyclone Uesi. Uesi had a ton of rain accompany it which caused all the creeks and ocean to fill up with debris. It was actually pretty hard to shoot that morning as the water and sky were the same colour causing a lot of glare. A set came through and this was the first one, I just remember it getting through the whole pack up the point completely unridden. A scarcity nowadays. Sometimes it’s nice to just stop and appreciate those kind of moments as the people in the frame are doing."

20.01.2022 Australian surfing lost another legend this week with the passing of Gordon 'Gordo' Phillipson. Gordo ( pictured here with World Champion #PeterTownend) played a huge part in surfing at both a boardriders club, state and national level.

12.01.2022 'Behind The Lens' with Josh Bystrom - He walks us through his first ever cover shot! "This shot will always have sentimental value as it was my first ever cover shot. SurfingLife Mag invited me on my first trip with them to shoot their annual event, the Bersih Puntorama. I was out in the water shooting and reef clicked on this section so perfectly and the light, spray and composition all just came together. I remember holding onto my housing shooting until the last minute and copping that wave to the head but in the end it was all worth it!"

12.01.2022 Introducing our second installment of ‘Behind The Lens’ where we sit down with some of Queensland’s best surfing photographers and they talk us through some of their favourite images. We caught up with @travdonjohnson who has some incredible images to share with us! Unknown, Pipeline, Hawaii - "I thought I was gone for here. I was shooting 50mm at a pumping Pipeline and had pushed in towards the impact zone. I had a set come from a little bit more north than the previous ...set and suddenly I was caught inside. As the wave was rearing up in front of me I’m calculating the decision I have to make; do I try and race it and get underneath and risk being taken over the falls or do I let it land nearly on me and try and get to the bottom of the reef and hope it doesn’t crush me into it. This is happening in a matter of seconds but it kind of felt like everything was slowing down around me. Towards the end of this quick decision making process I thought ‘I’m done for anyway’, so I snapped off one quick frame of an unknown surfer trying to duckdive (who may or may not have made it through) before myself ducking for my life. Somehow, I got caught in between the vortex under the wave and it spat me out the other side into clear water. The feeling of relief was incredible but it was also fleeting, there were 3 more sets coming...." See more

It was taken during the Quiksilver Pro Snapper Rocks window during a pre comp warmup. The image features Gabriel Medina and Jeremy Flores alongside a young grom jumping off the rocks.
