20.01.2022 All life jackets in use on Tasmanian boats will need to adhere to the new standard AS4758.1 by January 1st 2021 Life Jackets made to AS 4758.1 will display the following levels: Level 150 Level 100... Level 50 Level 50S (Special Purpose) An approved life jacket must be provided for each person on board. It is compulsory to wear a life jacket in any recreational motor boat or motor-propelled tender that is under six (6) metres in length whilst under power. It is also compulsory for children under the age of 12 years to wear a life jacket in a recreational motor boat or motor-propelled tender of any length while under power. A life jacket does not need to be worn within a deckhouse, cabin or secure enclosed space. Life Jackets are also compulsory in a lightweight craft which includes kayaks, canoes, stand-up paddle boards, dinghies (tenders). 20.01.2022 A big thanks to Boat Harbour SLSC and Wynyard Marine Rescue Unit responding to a callout yesterday afternoon at Anniversary Bay which is between Sisters Beach and Rocky Cape, a fast response from both services allowed for a sweep of the area to be completed in under 2 hours from Tas Police notification, well done to all involved. The SLST assets were coordinated from Hobart with the tracking of the radios, which was being fed in real time to the emergency services platform for Taspolice to view as required.

19.01.2022 Happy #feelgoodfriday Over the past few weeks members of the Tasmanian Surf Sports Development Squad (TSSDS) completed initial fitness testing at squad sessions held in the North and South of the State. 11.01.2022 Happy #feelgoodfriday Another successful weekend held on the Mersey River training in Flood Swift Water Rescue Technician. It was great to see the next generation of SLS coming through the ranks and expanding their skill set.

11.01.2022 Great response from Devonport Surf Lifesaving club Emergency Response Team responding to a swimmer unable to return to shore this afternoon. He was picked up in the IRB, handed over to Ambulance Tasmania and then taken back to the club. Well done to all involved and a real life test of our statewide radio network linking the whole state together communicating from the SLST office in Hobart to the IRB on the water at Devonport.

This year we have moved the physical awards evening to an online event, however this certainly wont dampen the enthusiasm of our members. Like most of the challenges we have faced this year, our members have adapted with commendable resilience and determination.

09.01.2022 Three Tasmanian expats Zane Hadley, Simon Murfet and Ned Lennox are contesting the qualification round for the Nutri-grain Ironman Series 2020/21. Over four heats, 120 will be reduced down to 20. Sunday will then see 20 be further reduced to 8 who will then have the opportunity to see the dream of having their name written across the back of their bathers. Good Luck! All of Tasmania is cheering you on!!

08.01.2022 Happy #feelgoodfriday Our SLST Volunteer Support Officers, Juppy and Toby, hit the road last weekend to deliver Age Manager and Technical Officials Theory Modules in six sessions held along the North-West Coast at Burnie Surf Life Saving Club, Devonport Surf Lifesaving club and Port Sorell Surf Life Saving Club. Great to see 24 new Age Managers and 27 new Technical Officials complete the weekend, who will all go on to support their clubs junior programs and surf sport ev...ents.
