23.01.2022 SHOUT OUT to members of our Wesfarmers Emergency Response Team who responded to a call from the WA Police to assist in the search for a missing 8 year old girl at Shelley Cove, near Bunker Bay yesterday. Within 15 minutes of receiving the request, SurfCom had mobilised three of our Wesfarmers Emergency Response Team members, based at Smiths Beach Surf Life Saving Club, who launched a Jet Ski from the Dunsborough Boat Ramp. Whilst they were stood down soon after arrival at ...the search site as the young girl had been safely reunited with her mother, the responsiveness of those involved is to be commended and demonstrates what a valuable asset these teams are to their local communities! 17.01.2022 VALE // David Clark ESM We were saddened to hear of the passing of SLSWA & Surf Life Saving Australia Life Member David Clark ESM on 24 December 2020. Dave’s involvement in surf lifesaving began in 1971 when at age 39 he joined Mullaloo Surf Life Saving Club and quickly became a valued member, holding a number of key positions, before joining Sorrento Surf Life Saving Club WA in 1982 where his involvement continued.... Dave played a significant role in the development of Surf Life Saving’s emergency services operations including the introduction of Inflatable Rescue Boats (IRBs) to WA clubs and was the State IRB Officer from 1975-1991. Dave’s passion for IRBs never wavered, remaining a keen supporter of IRBs as both a rescue and racing craft up until his passing. Dave was also instrumental in the development and widespread utilisation of radios by SLSWA clubs and members, with more than ten years spent as SLSWA’s Radio & Communications Officer (1991-2003). Described as a persistent pioneer and a great advocate for crucial innovation, in 2012 Dave was awarded the Emergency Service Medal for his long-standing dedication to Western Australia’s rescue services. Our sincerest condolences go out to Coral, Ken and the Clark family at this difficult time.

Statistics show there have been 13 deaths on WA beaches so far this year*, an 86 per cent increase on the same time last year. Jock was a long-serving member of City of Perth SLSC, joining in 1951 and going on to a lifetime of distinguished service. He was passionately involved at a club, state and national level, taking on roles ranging from Patrol Captain to Vice President at City of Perth, and was an active member on the State Board of Examiners. ... Reflective of his long standing service and commitment, he was awarded Life Membership to his club (1971), SLSWA (1974) and Surf Life Saving Australia (1977). 04.01.2022 SUNSMART METRO NIPPER QUALIFIER UPDATE // Please be advised that due to COVID-19 restrictions that are in place up until 12.01am Sunday, 14 February, SLSWA has had to make modifications to the SunSmart Metro Nipper Qualifier that was scheduled for the 13th & 14th February 2021. The program of events will be modified so that both water and beach events will be contested on Sunday, 14 February 2021. In brief the modifications include;... U10’s & U11’s will start marshalling in the water at 7:15am U12’s and U13’s will start marshalling on the beach at 7:15am A rotation between beach and water will occur mid to late morning BOARD RESCUE QUALIFICATION // Given the COVID-19 restrictions, we are unable to fit all events into the one day modified program, therefore we have made the decision to move Board Rescues to Sunday, 21 February 2021 which will run alongside the carnivals taking place at Mullaloo, with marshalling starting at 7.00am. The updated program of events will be released early next week.
