23.01.2022 Well that was a pretty amazing (and very exhausting) 2 weeks, touring some of my wonderful regional locations. After a successful trip to the Wheatbelt, I headed straight off to our amazing South West to begin a very busy second week of presentations in Busselton, Bunbury, Dunsborough and Australind. Having travelled just over 2000 kilometres in the last 14 days and though I do love the country life, it is great to be home! Thanks to my good friends at Dunsborough Holiday Ho...mes for hosting me for the week and for the past 5 years I have been visiting schools in the area. They have got some great places to stay if any of my followers are looking to have a break soon. After 32 presentations across 12 schools and organisations in those 2 weeks, I have been able to spread my messages of Internet Awareness to over 3000 students, parents and educators. I have already received some amazing feedback and would like to thank all of my country communities for your continued support of my work.

20.01.2022 I had a quick chat with the lovely Lucie Bell from ABC Perth this morning. Omegle still on the rise in Australia and Among Us (game) has been going off over the past few months. I also managed to get in a great plug for the Beacon Cyber Safety App from the Telethon Kids Institute.

20.01.2022 The co-operation of many international policing agencies re investigating online child abuse is commendable. But having worked at the coal face of that world, it is the lack of responsibility from those who create the playgrounds where offenders can work which is a constant hindrance. There is still no truly useable criminal legislation governing the creation, protection and policing of online environments. The internet is borderless; as such many offenders can prowl these si...tes knowing the chance of getting caught is very low. I recently had a pool installed! The number of hurdles I had to jump over to get plans, permits and approvals was almost exhausting. Yet we still have online playgrounds being created without any real level of control or moderation. Omegle is a perfect example. Leif K Brooks has created a playground which is used by online predators. He presents children with easy access and takes no deliberate action to protect users. Yet Mr Brooks (and many other creators of such sites) is permitted to hide legally behind disclaimer Users enter at their own peril. I ask would this be allowed to happen at Wet’n’Wild, Disneyland, or Adventure World???

17.01.2022 I have been honoured, for the past 7 years to have been working with the amazing All Saints' College WA under the Djaaliny Community Learning Program (Djaaliny - Noongar for "Flame"). To be able to assist with education under such a strong banner is a privelage I hold close to my heart. ASC was one of the first 2 schools to trust me with this education to their community back in 2012. 9 years later, I feel part of the furniture! I look forward to seeing as many parents tonight as I can for the evening session.

16.01.2022 Instagram has recently made a few alterations to their App. Most of these changes are quite simple, but one needs to be discussed further. Vanish Mode (VM) is where a user can send a message to a peer on Insta and once the message has been read, it disappears from chat history and cannot be seen again. The recipient also needs to be in VM when they receive the message. I have spoken about this addition at my last few parent sessions. It is important to have conversations wit...h kids regarding these types of features. Many kids have the mistaken belief that words such as 'private', 'delete' or 'vanish' will offer them a level of protection. This quite often is not the case. Instagram have not released these additions (including VM) into Australia yet, but it is likely that will happen over the coming weeks.

16.01.2022 Such a sad but all to common story nowadays. So many young people are having their lives changed forever because of one simple error of judgement. In the meantime, those who continue to profit and feed off the posting and display of such images and vids are allowed to ply their trade unimpeeded! 'Allowing' a nude image of a 14 year old girl to be viewed 400 thousand times is an abhorent act!

16.01.2022 I got home this afternoon to a pretty awesome email from a student I presented to for the first time today at one of my regular schools. For a kid to jump online straight away and offer feedback in this way, truly makes my week and gives me such amazing inspiration! A great addition to the testimonials page of my website!

15.01.2022 Some people simply do not get it and never will! This is why many Indigenous boys and men continue to struggle to deal with such comments, they can rarely escape them. In the current climate (or any time for that matter), what kind of person jumps onto social media and makes such a comment? Luckily, many of us know the answer to that question! We must all call out this type of behaviour online as loudly and as often as we can. The networks do not give a damn and our governmen...ts are not doing enough. Time and time again, it is the victim who must accept it. This needs to change! Harley, you have my support mate and I am here if you need help or advice. I am glad you have the support of your family and your brothers at the Melbourne Football Club. #EnoughisEnough

14.01.2022 I was rapt last night at one of my parent presentations to promote for the first time since it's release on Monday, the Beacon Cyber Safety App. A great addition to my recommended Apps, sites and providers and one I know is going to have a significant impact on helping parents and educators protect their kids online. Visit your App store and search 'Beacon' or 'Cyber Safety' and download the free App.

14.01.2022 INTERNET AWARENESS Today, we had Paul Litherland from Surf Online Safe spoke to our Year Five and Six students about Internet Awareness. Paul's key messages we...re: - PAUSE for 5 seconds before posting or commenting online. - THINK and ASSESS - how much information am I giving away about myself? - The importance of reporting suspicious or inappropriate behaviour. An alarming 86% of children do not tell an adult when something goes wrong online. - Be an informed user! Check the privacy and location settings on the social networks and gaming sites being used. - Netiquette. You’re better than that. - Don’t accept follow requests from strangers, despite the desire to become 'Insta' or 'TikTok' famous. Children who are afraid of reporting cyber concerns to an adult can access the e-safety web site. https://www.esafety.gov.au/kids Paul Litherland has recently worked with the Telethon Institute to develop a cyber safety app for parents. We would highly recommend downloading this app ‘Beacon,’ through the app store. Our Students connected and responded really well to Paul's real life stories and statistics... Bianca - "Thank you for teaching us about the dangers of the online world. We have had speakers tell us about it before, but we haven’t necessarily been told why or how it was dangerous. Thank you for making it engaging too! I will definitely be more aware and safe online now that that information has been given! I’m going to go home and turn off my location and pass it on to my younger brother." Zoe - "Thanks for teaching us how to be aware online. I think that in the future many people will be aware when online and gaming. Some of the things that had shocked me is that only 27 kids out of about 500 kids told their parents that they were being hacked or scammed and losing so much money." Thank you for making it clear what we have to do in order to be aware of scammers on the internet and how to deal with it." 13.01.2022 Our kids can learn so much from so many different sources. Inspiration can breed the greatest people in society. Marlion Pickett's story is one which is going to inspire generations to come and will make massive changes in so many lives. I can't wait to get my copy signed by the great man.

13.01.2022 What an awesome week visiting the picturesque Wheatbelt. Being raised in the bush, it is important to me I get into regional locations as often as I can to share this education with those communities. This visit was so much fun and well worth the trip. Special thanks to the wonderful students, staff and parents at Merredin College, St Mary's School P&F - Merredin and Kulin District High School for making me feel so welcome and for the amazing feedback you have all provided a...lready. Thanks also to the staff at the Merredin Tourist Park for hosting me for the week. The accommodation was spot on and I look forward to seeing you again next visit.

13.01.2022 Nothing to do with Cyber Safety, but working in schools for almost 10 years now, concussion is an injury which is overlook by so many young people. Having worked for the past 16 years as a coach in the WAFL, I have been privileged to work with some amazing people and this story by Christopher Luff reflects precisely the impact concussion can have on a players life, on and off the field. This is a great initiative I have been very proud to be involved in as an advisor and I encourage all of you who have kids to download the free App and get learning!

05.01.2022 What a brilliant photo! This pic brought back some fond memories for me, watching and playing footy in Broome when I was a kid. I was always in awe at the skill and pace of the Indigenous boys I played with. This image reflects how natural that ability is. The Stephen Michael Foundation is doing some amazing work and I am glad to have such a strong relationship with them.... As a coach and mentor in the WAFL system for almost 20 years, I know footy can be a massive outlet and get away for many. This is such a great initiative. Well done!

04.01.2022 If you have not seen The Social Dilemma on Netflix, then make sure you sit down with your kids & watch it this week! For over 10 years, I have been pushing the networks toward the Ethical Design of their environments. As a police officer & now as an educator, I continue to challenge major corporations, who are more interested in profit than user safety & privacy. At times it has been very frustrating & even disheartening not to be heard. ... However, the former CEO's & Executives of these organisations coming together in this documentary to call out such unethical standards will hopefully go a long way in forcing change. They reveal what I have been speaking about for ages & will add weight to the fight myself & many other educators are trying to win.

I was honoured to be on the panel of Flashpoint WA on 7 last night, promoting this wonderful initiative with Professor Donna Cross from TKI, Jordan Foster from ySafe Solutions and Rory Murry of The Fathering Project. Beacon is an amazing resource for parents and educators and can offer real time, up to date a...dvice and information on the latest trends, risks and fads our kids are experiencing online. 03.01.2022 ##### WARNING TO PARENTS ##### If your kids, teens or even you yourself are on TikTok, please be very aware over the coming days. Log out for a few days and avoid the App. There is a video which is spreading rapidly on the network which shows an adult male taking his own life. It is a graphic video which could have a significant emotional impact on those who may see it.... It is likely the video will also spread across other networks in the coming days. I have already seen it on Snapchat,and Instagram. Many of my high school kids have contacted me today to discuss the video. Please have conversations with your kids today. Please Stay Safe and look out for each other..

01.01.2022 This is the type of stuff I talk about regarding the online world! The line between 'public' and 'private' life is non-existent these days and it is a world that can be brutal and harsh. People are experts from their keyboards and cast shame and judgment on people who are going through situations which in reality, could happen to any one of us under similar circumstances. I believe our media and social networking platforms have a role to play in minimising the harm and judg...ement their online environments can create. So often they provide a conduit for abuse and hate, when at times they should consider discretion or privacy. I am not naive to the assumption that stories such as this will get so many more likes and shares than if Josh Hill had bought a new T-shirt, but is there anyone at The West or at Facebook who has asked the question ; What harm could this post cause those depicted? I am dealing with many cases each week where the online world causes so much more harm to what is already a very stressful or difficult situation. This lack of accountability and discretion is impacting on lives and can often cause long lasting harm. Everyday I ask kids and teens to 'Think before you post'! Maybe it is time some adults and professionals started doing the same.
