22.01.2022 Surf Life Saving NSWs official write up on the rescue performed off Easts Beach on Sunday. Appropriate PPE and the quick response of our emergency response unit allowed a successful rescue to be carried out in the dangerous conditions.



20.01.2022 Today at 14:50 members of the public notified Surf Rescue 50s Crew who where on standby at base at Kiama Harbour regarding a POI (Person of Interest) in distress 1.5km off the harbour. Surfcom was notified and Surf Rescue 50 was quickly launched with the 3 to 4 foot surge at the boat ramp making the launch difficult. Sr50 shortly after reached the patient navigating the 5 meter swell to do so. After getting the POI aboard the crew then took the POI to the harbour and assisted ashore. Afterwards the crew waited for additional resources to retrieve the vessel in the swell. A successful job done in less than ideal circumstances

19.01.2022 This evening at 5:16 p.m. Surf Rescue 50s emergency response team and a Toll Ambulance Rescue Helicopter was activated after reports of a person in distress off Bombo headland in Kiama. Surf Rescue 50 was launched and arrived on scene, conducting a search of the area with the large swell and fading light making the search difficult. Quickly after their arrival the lifesavers onboard spotted the 41 year old man floating approximately 50m off the rocks, quickly pulling him aboard the vessel and administering first aid. Afterwards the crew took the patient into Kiama Harbour to awaiting ambulance officers who assessed the patient for mild hypothermia.

19.01.2022 Surf Rescue 50 and South Coast duty officers are taking added precautions due to the large and hazardous surf forecasted over the coming days. Conditions are expected to be hazardous for coastal activities such as rock fishing, boating, surfing and swimming. People should consider staying out of the water and avoid walking near surf-exposed areas. Please remember if you do see someone in danger do not attempt a rescue on your own. 10.01.2022 The ORRCA Rescue team have had a sighting of an entangled Humpack this afternoon. Sighted off Winding the whale was seen with an orange bouy attached to the animal. The whale could be located anywhere between the Sydney area or as far south as Nowra. So if you see this whale, please call the ORRCA Rescue asap on 02 9415 3333. Please try to get a photo or video to confirm the entanglement plus a GPS location. Importantly, please don't approach the whale. Whales are protected in Australian waters. You must stay at least 100m away at all times, 300m if they have a calf. If the animal is entangled a 500m exclusion zone applies.

10.01.2022 A powerful low-pressure system will impact the NSW coast between Wednesday 21 and Friday 23 August. The system is expected to create ‘Hawaiian-style’ conditions consisting of big surf, with waves up to 12 feet high and strong winds. If you do see someone in danger immediately call 000 (Triple Zero) and ask for police. Do not attempt a rescue on your own. Although the Surf Lifesaving season does not begin until 28 September, volunteer surf lifesaving support operation teams such as Surf Rescue 50 are on-call 24-7 to respond to critical incidents.

02.01.2022 Today at 0900 Surf Rescue 50s emergency response system was initiated after reports of a rockfisherman in distress off Kiamas little blowhole went through to the state operation center. Two SR50 personnel launched an Inflatable Rescue Boat (IRB) from Kiama SLSC to respond to the incident where they found the patient floating off the rocks at Easts Beach. After being taken into Easts Beach for first aid by SR50 personell as well as NSW Fire and Rescue personell shortly after a...n assessment was made by NSW Ambulance officers on the fisherman's condition, the patient was taken in the care of his brother only suffering abrasions and mild hypothermia. During the incident a Police officer suffered injuries to his leg while responding to the incident. The officer was reported to be in good spirits after the injury and taken to Wollonong Hospital.
