25.01.2022 Hey Illawariors, Next Sunday 5th May at 10am, at North Wollongong beach - come and join the Surfrider Foundation as we say NOWAY EQUINOR and #fightforthrbight ...This was how we did it at Bondi yesterday and now it’s your turn Wollongong and the South Coast. We cannot allow Equinor to drill for oil in the Marine Sanctuary, 372 kms off the Coastline in the pristine waters of the Great Australian Bight. Out of sight is NOT out of mind. The Southern Ocean has some of the roughest seas on the planet and should an oil spill occur the effects would be far reaching and catastrophic. Bring your friends and family, this is real and unless we tell Equinor that they are not welcome in our waters - they will start the mess. Students of Wollongong University - this is a shout out to all if you to join your fellow students from the Surfrider UOW club and get involved. Don’t be a ‘slacktivist / ckicktavist / liker’ - be a DO-ER and get everyone you know to come and join us next Sunday at 10am. #surfrider #fightforthebight #drillingiskilling #ckeanwaterhealthybeaches #protectwhatyoulove See more

17.01.2022 The only locally elected politician at Dont Drill In The Bight rally last week. Thanks for your support Andy!

11.01.2022 Spring Creek developers and landowners were pretty rude to our local MP at a planning workshop recently. They need to show some respect to the process and our community values and expectations.

08.01.2022 We’re at a critical turning point in our country’s history. Long-held Liberal and Labor seats have been challenged by the likes of The Greens and Independents l...ike Kerryn Phelps most recently. We do have the opportunity to take the reins, but only if we work together as a collective. We can have economic prosperity, but not with the huge environmental and social costs we have seen. It takes political courage and leadership to do this, let’s stand together and show them we’ve had enough of the way things are run. Let’s draw that ‘Line in the Sand’!

07.01.2022 Moggs Creek Hoodie doing well!

05.01.2022 Let’s support this Legend ..................

05.01.2022 Lots of seals on our beaches at the moment. Please respect and leave alone.

03.01.2022 It's working in Queensland. We need a similar container return scheme in Victoria.

02.01.2022 With Great Ocean Road tourism numbers expected to double in the next 20 years should we be planning to accommodate peak demand or to manage numbers such that th...e natural values that tourists come to enjoy are conserved? With a lot of businesses struggling in winter should we be a bit more clever about how the area is promoted and spread these peak numbers through the off season? The Victorian government is in the process of setting up a new Authority that will be responsible for planning decisions along the Great Ocean Road, with multiple existing coastal authorities being shut down. This new entity will apparently be called the Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority (GORCPA) and GORCC (who we believe have been doing a terrific job over the last decade) will be absorbed into this Authority along with other Foreshore Committees. GORCPA appears to be going down the path of providing more infrastructure to drive the tourism dollar, (this was the focus of their community workshops in May & June). Do we want this same Authority, to take over management of our National Parks and the Bells Beach Surfing Recreation Reserve? What happens to the environmental values that drive the current economy? What about the needs of the communities dotted along the Great Ocean Road and the expectations of the wider community that uses the GOR for recreation? There is talk of community advisory committees but we are skeptical of their effectiveness and transparency. There is also talk of board members being picked from local communities but that isn’t documented anywhere. We can shape the direction of this new authority by having our input as early as possible before the closing date of 30th August. Learn more at https://engage.vic.gov.au/great-ocean-road and have your say by sending emails to [email protected] These 2 photos were taken last Friday approaching the middle of winter. Fantastic weather and there was very little traffic along the GOR. There is plenty of scope to spread tourism numbers throughout the year (if the economy is to be the major focus of this new authority), rather than the old and damaging paradigm of pushing for more of the same and growth for growth’s sake.
