22.01.2022 Maurice Cole... standing up fof Bells and the surfing community.
21.01.2022 Surfrider Foundation Surf Coast are proud to be a founding partner of the Greater Torquay Alliance.
18.01.2022 Banthebutt aims to have smoking banned in all Parks and Reserves across Victoria. The Do the Right Thing message has fallen on deaf ears. More drastic action is needed. it’s now time to #banthebutt from our parks and reserves. Cigarette butts are the most littered item in Victoria and the Surf Coast and all our pleas to do the right thing are falling on deaf ears. More drastic action is needed and that action is a total ban on smoking in Parks and Reserves. Our incoming Council will be asked to enact a local law to achieve this outcome. We got smoking banned on Surf Coast beaches 10 years ago, let's take the next step! Please share. This is a public group so it's easy to like them and stay up to date. Don't forget to tag your favorite Councillors or candidates!
18.01.2022 Banthebutt is a campaign to have smoking banned in all Parks and Reserves in Victoria starting with the Surf Coast. Cigarette butts are the most littered item i...n the world and the Surf Coast is no different. The Do the Right Thing message does not work, falling on deaf ears. More drastic action is needed to protect out natural environment from this hideous pollution. Please like our page, join our group and share widely. See more
17.01.2022 The management plan for Bells Beach is to Respect & Protect the surfing reserve. The message from the community is to Leave It Alone! Yet we have developers continuing to line up, ‘Snouts at the Trough’, ready to exploit the place. This article on Maurice Cole, his run for Council and the absurd Winki Pop platform. It’s made us google ‘pablum’!
16.01.2022 Surfrider Foundation Surf Coast is proud to support the Banthebutt campaign. Cigarette butts create many pollution problems in our environment. Banning smoking from public parks and reserves would create cleaner and healthier public spaces for everyone to enjoy.
14.01.2022 Surfrider Foundation initiated a ban on cigarette butts on our beaches 11 years ago. It is time that butts were now banned in nature reserves and public places. Please support.
10.01.2022 Winki Platform, Hawaiian ‘Holiday’ and Questionable Funding The World Surf League said in the recent government panel on the Winki Pop platform they don’t want a permanent structure after it was revealed that they were the ones that originally asked for a solution to viewing the Winki surf break. So why are the Surf Coast Shire Council still pursuing a permanent structure when the WSL and Surfing Victoria said that a temporary structure built for each RC Pro is fine? Has th...ere been another arrangement made behind closed doors between WSL and the Council? Has it got something to do with the trip to Hawaii by Cr David Bell and the Council CEO Keith Baillie in 2018? Are the state government involved having provided funding under the guise of addressing public risk, when there is no risk? Mr Bell and the CEO met with a Hawaiian Senator, the mayor of Honolulu, the World Surf League and the department that gives permits to use coastal land. We are wondering what was discussed, what agreements were made, what inducements were given and why weren’t the community and all of the Councillors told? This link is Hawaiian media on the 2018 council trip http://www.honolulu.gov//33839-12-10-2018-mayor-david-bell This article from the Geelong Indy
08.01.2022 It won't be long. We look forward to the Surf Coast coming out of lockdown so we can get back to the coast with beach clean ups and revegetation days!
03.01.2022 Surfrider Foundation Surf Coast have written to the Acting CEO of the Surf Coast Shire and Minister for the Environment asking that they put a stop to any further development of the Winki Pop Elevated Walkway. The walkway is clearly not wanted by the surfing community or WSL. The time and resources being wasted on the walkway could be better spent dealing with weed management, litter, stormwater management and other environmental issues in the Bells Beach Surf Reserve. It is time council focused on protecting Bells Beach and stopped trying to turn it into some urban style tourist attraction.
02.01.2022 Get your votes in by the end of the week folks. Lets elect a council that truly cares for the coast.
02.01.2022 The Council still pursues this permanent platform at Winki even though the World Surf League and Surfing Victoria says a temporary structure each year works fine. There’s something else going on here, - Council trips to Hawaii, - Councillors lied to by officers, - The community lied to by officers, - Grant money provided under a risk program when there is no risk, ... - Funding already obtained when the consultation started, - Use of biased surveys (which Council has admitted to), - Elements of push polling at the on site ‘Van Chats’ at Winki, - The community not informed the platform would not be publicly accessible when the contest is on at Winki, - Council not disclosing the size of the structure to the community, - Council not acting on the results of consultation. It’s time to pull, this platform Surf Coast Shire Council and Lily D'Ambrosio MP. The DAL planning statement that is currently out for consultation has stronger protections for Bells and this structure is non compliant. Tanks for the article Geelong Advertiser
