19.01.2022 NOPSEMA REQUESTS FURTHER INFORMATION FROM EQUINOR ON BIGHT DRILLING PROPOSAL News announcement - Published 27 June, 2019 Today, the National Offshore Petroleum Safety and Environmental Management Authority (NOPSEMA) requested further information from Equinor on its environment plan for their proposed petroleum exploration drilling activity in the Great Australian Bight. The assessment will now pause and recommence when Equinor submits the additional information. Equinor has b...een provided with 60 days to submit the requested information to NOPSEMA. The request for information was made in order to clarify matters raised in the plan and to address information gaps identified by NOPSEMA’s specialist team assessing the plan. Under Australia’s objective-based regulatory regime, a request for further information is a normal step in the assessment process. To ensure a fair and unbiased process and to provide natural justice to all parties, NOPSEMA does not comment on the specifics of environment plans under assessment. NOPSEMA’s primary role is the prevention of major accident events offshore, to ensure the safety of the workforce and protection of the environment. For more information on Equinor’s proposed activity, and to subscribe to updates on the environment plan assessment, see the Activity status and summaries page. See more

Get down to your beach and show it some love as part of #cleanuptheworld Did you know that #cleanuptheworld was actually an event that originated in Australia back in 1993 by one of Surfrider’s closest allies and also a keen waterman and Surfrider member, Ian Kiernan. Ian was the founder of Clean Up Australia........ Clean Up the World was established in 1993 and is one of the largest community-based environmental programs in the world. Ian has since passed away so let’s carry the flame and continue to #cleanuptheworld #cleanupAustralia

02.01.2022 Congratulations to all of the teams who entered in today’s event at Woonona. 1st place: Port Kembla 2nd place: Queenscliff 3rd place: Woonona (hosting club) 4th place: Jones Beach ... We had a total of 11 teams entered. Thanks to Gromz at Thirroul, Surf Collective in Avalon, Mark Reside (Author) for donating 10 copies of his children’s ‘Stunno’s Surf Adventure’ book, and especially VISSLA & SISSTREVOLUTION for the awesome prizes. The kids were super stoked! Half way through the comp we held a half hour beach clean, and even though the beach looked clean, we filled two massive garbage bags with microplastics. Thanks to everyone for your help, and support and especially to the hosting club, Woonona for making it happen. Huge shout out to Paul Burnett for organising the event and for running these fun junior tag team BoardRider events. #surfrider #protectwhatyoulove See more

02.01.2022 SURFING IS HERE TO STAY, BUT OUR SURFBREAKS MAY NOT BE. Surfrider Foundation Australia's Endangered Waves program aims to highlight the many threats endangering a number of Australia’s most unique and fragile surfing and coastal environments. An #EndangeredWave is one where the wave itself is threatened, or the immediate coastal environment and surfing amenity is threatened by one or more of the threats listed within our Endangered Waves Criteria. Surfrider's grassroots volunteer branch network mobilises local community action to protect waves listed as endangered. Check out the current endangered list at www.surfrider.org.au

02.01.2022 This is a really easy one to do! Every little bit helps and the less plastic that we produce means the less plastic that we have to bury, pick up or swim past. How much unnecessary single-use plastic will you touch today? Make your actions count and be a part of the global solution. Thank you. Please sign and the share to your networks.
01.01.2022 As the current situation evolves by the minute, we know our ocean loving community waits in the wings, ready to take MASSIVE action when we're all reunited prop...erly. 01.01.2022 Surfrider Foundation will be running a Surfrider Gromfest Event at Queenscliff Beach. There are still a couple of spots so if there are any clubs out there who are yet to enter a team or if there are any already entered you can put in an extra team. I thought that I would post the rules here for those wanting to know. Rules are as follows:... Rules Age: 2 surfers can be 16 or under as of 31/12/2019 but 3 surfers must be 14 or under as of 31/12/2019. All surfers can be 14 or under as of 31/12/2019. 5 Surfers per team. Each team must have at least one person of the opposite sex. Each surfer can catch up to a maximum of 5 waves. NB If surfer feels that his/her first two waves are good scorers then he/she can come in and give the team a time advantage. Best two waves only are scored for each surfer. So teams are scored on a total of their 10 best rides provided each team member catches two waves. (5 x 2 waves per surfer) Usual interference rules apply. Interference will incur a run of shame. No penalties for not finishing except that the team's total will reflect less that 10 waves ridden. Bonus points for early completion as follows. First finished 4 points. Second finished 3 points. 3rd finished 2 points. 4th finished 1 point. Should there be more than four team in a heat the points will simply be a reverse of the order teams finish. Should a surfer require help from a parent pusher this is allowed. I have extended an invitation to the three girls clubs in Sydney and will allow a special dispensation of all girls teams for those clubs. I hope this is ok with the rest of you.
