25.01.2022 Look who was at the Breakwater today

25.01.2022 LET IT GLOW! Christmas has a distinctly electric feel in Warrnambool this year, thanks to some brilliant installations by renowned neon artist Carla O'Brien.... A total of 16 installations have been turned on across the city, with the pieces set to become a permanent part of the town's Christmas decorations. The new sculptures were unveiled as part of A Very Liebig Christmas over the weekend, and will remain in place until after Christmas. They can be found in and around Liebig Street, with two installations at Cannon Hill as well. Ms O’Brien said that she was thrilled to be back in Warrnambool. It was such a positive experience with the neon trail that we had over wintertime, so it was fantastic to come back and bring a different side of Christmas, something that’s completely unique, she said. These are original pieces and Warrnambool is the first in the world to get them." (Images: Warrnambool City Council. )

24.01.2022 Next Wednesday everyone who had a summer booking for this season will receive a text and email offering them a place in the ballot for a summer site. Guests will need to respond to the text with "yes', "no', or you can simply opt out. Please note that you can only apply for the ballot once. Ie you can't respond to both the text and email.

22.01.2022 A couple of cracking photos of the Warrnambool Railway Station taken at the turn of the last century, because sometimes it is worth celebrating what we still have, and not lost. The railway station was built in 1890. Images via State Library and Picture Victoria.

21.01.2022 What a loss. The Hotel Criterion, as it was, with some light colourisation courtesy of LW follower Kev Melican. Warrnambool has lost so many of its character buildings, and how many buildings of character have replaced them? This spot, sadly, is still an empty block.

21.01.2022 Not long to go now. We plan to have our ballot information out to you by the end of the week.

04.01.2022 A sunny day in the Fletcher Jones gardens, 1960s. In the centre, you can see the tall metal sculpture which once sat in the gardens and was inspired by the hug...e trylon (tower) and perisphere (ball) sculptures from the 1939 World Fair in New York City. (This photo has a hair on the image which makes the trylon look like a cross - it's not!) The original, futuristic sculptures dominated the New York skyline for the duration of the fair, with the trylon stretching 185m (610ft) into the air, next to the 60m (200ft) perisphere. The Fletcher Jones version was obviously much smaller, but still reflected the forward thinking of Sir Fletcher Jones and his being inspired by new ideas and ways of looking at the future. Photo from private collection.
