24.01.2022 Well thats 2019 done and dusted. What another wonderful year. Lots of great singing and many, many laughs (also a few tears). Finished up with an awesome performance at the RACV to honour our Uta. In the photo were singing for our friends and families at our EOY function. (I am casting the "smiling spell" on everyone!!!..or perhaps someone made a mistake??) Back on deck on January 14, 2020 to prepare for our Australia Day performance. If youd love to sing in an informal, positive and supportive setting, come and check us out!

24.01.2022 We share our joy of singing all over the world. Vicki singing mit and conducting der Oom Pah Pah Band!

24.01.2022 Surfside Singers are delighted to have just made a donation to the Bluebird Foundation, a community group that run (among other things) a childrens choir in Geelong. Our donation will go towards purchasing music for a collaborative concert they will do with Orchestra Geelong at the end of this year. We are hoping to establish a permanent link with them and perhaps even sing with them in the future. Also looking forward to hearing their performance. Its wonderful to be able to help to share the joy of singing with others.

24.01.2022 Congrats to the ensemble for their professional, passionate and precise performance (wow, lots of "ps"!) last Sunday at the Bellarine Choral Festival. We did a lovely mix of songs: In Flanders Fields (just perfect for Remembrance Day), I Dreamed a Dream from Les Miserables, a mash-up of 2 spirituals (thank you to Robert for the "Deep River" solo) and The Rhythm of Life (which brought the house down). Great work everyone.

21.01.2022 One of our many Christmas performances. We wished the wonderful folk of Torquay a "Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year" at Peppers The Sands Resort, the Star of the Sea and down by the surf-side (ha ha) at Front Beach. A great way to end 2017. Stay posted for the details of our first concert in 2018.

17.01.2022 Hi singers. Hope this post finds you well. Just letting you know that I have been thinking of you and REALLY missing our rehearsals. I think well have to make our first rehearsal back twice as long so that we can all catch up on each others lives. Take care and let me know if theres anything I can do for you, musical or other until we are together again. PLEASE let that be before the end of the year!! Fingers crossed. Erika

12.01.2022 THE SURFSIDE SINGERS HAVE ARRIVED In October last year, with the enthusiastic support of the Torquay Community House, a four-week block of sessions was offered to the community to see if there was sufficient interest to form a singing group here in Torquay. The first class started off with about 10 enthusiastic people and from there the group grew each week. At the end of the trial session, it was decided that the group would continue and we have been singing together ever ...since. The group comprises approximately 25 male and female singers, ranging in age from twenty through to seventy plus. The group began by singing unison and two-part songs and are currently comfortably performing three-part pieces. At present, our repertoire covers a range of genres including Pop, Folk, Traditional and Jazz. At the start of this year we decided that we needed a more interesting name than the Adult Vocal Ensemble so it was decided that our name would be changed to identify us with this beautiful coastal area. Thus the Surfside Singers were born. In April we gave our first public performance, an open rehearsal. This more informal performance gave the group a chance to experience performing in a less stressful setting (many of the singers had not performed in public before). The performance was wonderful and very much enjoyed by an audience of family and friends. It has been an exciting and interesting journey for me to try to find the middle-ground for this group of enthusiastic and musical people, as some have had extensive singing experience, while others had never done anything more than sing in the shower. I love working with them and its always the highlight of my week. We all support each other and enjoy coming together to learn new things, have a laugh and (of course) sing. We rehearsal at the Torquay Community House every Tuesday evening from 5.30-7.00. New members are most welcome. Feel free to come along and check us out. The cost is $10.00 per session. 11.01.2022 Another wonderful performance at one of our local Art Shows. Thank you to all the ensemble members for their passion and professionalism. Another job well done.

11.01.2022 Looking forward to seeing you there.

11.01.2022 Rehearsals have been suspended until things settle. Take care, stay well.

11.01.2022 Our choir members get around! Jeannie singing at the recent Blue Skies Music Festival in Canada. Thats Jeannie on the end of the row. Wonderful!

10.01.2022 The Surfside Singers will be performing at the "Bellarine Choral Festival" in Barwon Heads on Sunday afternoon at the Barwon Heads Community Hall at 2.30. There will also be 5 other choirs performing. It should be a great afternoon of song. There will be massed singalong to conclude the performances and afternoon tea will follow. All funds raised will be passed on to Geelong Legacy.

07.01.2022 An audio track that we recorded earlier this year. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hJJq4SY9OoY&t=37s

07.01.2022 Quick update. Hoping that rehearsals will resume in Term 4 (October). Watch this space...

06.01.2022 Happy Australia Day. The choir spent a lovely morning singing their hearts out at our local Australia Day/Citizenship Ceremony in the park. It was wonderful for our little singing community to share their passion and music with the wider community. A very uplifting event. Thanks also to the choir for their recent donation to the Bushfire Appeal.

06.01.2022 We gather, we chat, we sing, we eat, we drink, we chat some more...its not just about the singing. Sharing a meal after our rehearsal this week.

04.01.2022 Congrats to all the Surfside performers for their performance at The Sands, Torquay. Great work under less than ideal circumstances. Thanks to all of the Probus attendees that listened and enjoyed. Stay posted for some pics. Were looking forward to our "Star of the Sea" performance on Monday. We will be the first group to perform in this beautiful establishment. Very special.

03.01.2022 A recent open rehearsal at Community House Torquay, attended by relatives and friends of the group, with group director Erica on keyboard.

02.01.2022 Hi everybody, Wow, what a year it's been! I have been pondering how we can meet again for a sing before the year is out. Given the risks of singing indoors (we don't have a venue anyway as all council run buildings are still closed) I am toying with the idea of running outdoor sessions once we can have more than 10 people together in an outdoor area.... Introducing "YODELING IN THE YARD". Here's the rough (infact, very rough) plan - meet at my abode, BYO music and chair, rehearse in our courtyard area (socially distanced), perhaps 4.30 - 6.00 so it'll be a little warmer and adjust arrangements to suit as we go once we've trialled the new system. Will give more thought to cost etc. if it looks like a goer. Might have to monitor numbers each week (it might only be 20 people for our next step into freedom), so maybe you'll have to email or text to let me know that you're attending I will email all existing members and contact the "newbies" I have promised to contact once we've taken that next step. Keen to know your thoughts.... Can't wait to have you all in front of me again crooning away and mesmerizing me with your gorgeous harmonies.

02.01.2022 Thats a wrap....2018 done and dusted. A lovely evening was had by all last Tuesday. We ate, we drank, we chatted, we laughed and we sang. Next gig Torquay Australia Day Citizenship Ceremony. Great work everyone. Have a joyous and restful Christmas.

02.01.2022 What a wonderful afternoon of music! The ensemble thoroughly enjoyed sharing their passion and skill with a large attentive and appreciative audience. The afternoon tea wasnt half bad either. We also introduced the crowd to our new "look" - the gals looked gorgeous wearing their new scarves and the boys looked equally dashing in their teal coloured ties. What a good looking bunch they are!

01.01.2022 On October 17 one of our valued choir members, Robert Setterfield, was formally made an Australian citizen here in Torquay. The Surfside Singers were honoured to be invited by the Surfcoast Shire to perform the National Anthem and "I am Australian" to help to make the occasion an even more memorable one. It was a special event for all of us involved and managed to bring a tear or two to many eyes. Welcome to Australia mate!

01.01.2022 Our first performance of the year was fabulous. The audience thoroughly enjoyed the varied program which took them on an enjoyable and emotional journey as the group sang their way through many different musical styles. From the heart-breaking song "I Dreamed a Dream" to the toe-tapping rendition of our final number, "Side by Side", the audience were with us all the way. It was also wonderful to see the singers really enjoying the experience and giving it their all. The afternoon tea was a highlight as well. Stay posted for our next performance.
