25.01.2022 It's Friday ! A lot of Christmas celebration are undergoing during this festive period, and some people may start to neglect their teeth during this busy time. Just a friendly reminder from your dentist ..... Don't forget to floss and brush !

24.01.2022 When was your last date with your dentist ? Most people tend to delay dental check-ups til they start to experience pain. Regular check-ups will help detect minor problems early before they become major costly ones.

22.01.2022 You think alot about teeth when you don't have any. Replacing a missing or several teeth is a possibility, ask us how.

18.01.2022 What is CEREC? Cerec is a ceramic reconstruction for Partial and Full Crowns milled from a high strength sintered Ceramic block: CEREC means we can quickly and economically restore damaged teeth using a durable ceramic material that matches the natural colour of other teeth in your mouth.... What advantages does CEREC offer? First and foremost, the restoration can be performed in a single session, usually in about one hour. With CEREC theres no need to make an impression and to send it to a lab. We wont inconvenience you by asking you to return for a second visit.Secondly, the restoration is natural looking, because it is made of tooth-coloured ceramic material. Its metal-free; no silver fillings to discolour your smile! The ceramic material is compatible with tissue in your mouth and is high-grade, anti-abrasive and plaque-resistant. It allows us to be extremely precise and save more of the healthy part of your tooth. How Does CEREC Work? First, we prepare the damaged tooth by applying a thin layer of reflective powder directly on the tooths surface. Using a special camera, we then take a picture of the tooth. These digital impressions give a much more accurate shape of the tooth to restore than the distortion of rubber impressions. therefore the adjusting before fitting is no longer needed. Then CEREC creates an extremely precise restoration. A high-speed diamond bur and a disk work simultaneously to mill the restoration out of a solid block of ceramic material. Finally, we bond the newly milled restoration to the tooth using state-of-the-art adhesive dentistry. CEREC has revolutionized the way our practice can deliver treatment to patients like you. This high-tech equipment allows us to restore damaged teeth in a single visit. The result is a beautiful, natural-coloured restoration that is much stronger than before.

16.01.2022 When Should Dental Care Start For Children ? Proper dental care begins before a babys first tooth appears. Just because you cant see the teeth doesnt mean they arent there. Teeth actually begin to form in the second trimester of pregnancy. At birth, your baby has 20 primary teeth, some of which are fully developed in the jaw. Running a damp washcloth over a babys gums daily will help clear away harmful bacteria. Parents can brush kids teeth as they come in with an infan...t toothbrush, using just water. You can use a childrens tooth paste around the age of 2. Around age 2, most kids can spit while brushing. Use a pea-sized amount of toothpaste, with supervision, until around age 5. Even babies can develop tooth decay if good feeding habits arent practiced. Putting a baby to sleep with a bottle might be convenient, but can harm the babys teeth. When the sugars from juice or milk remain on a babys teeth for hours, they can eat away at the enamel, creating a condition known as bottle mouth. Pocked, pitted, or discolored front teeth are signs of bottle mouth. Severe cases result in cavities and the need to pull all of the front teeth until the permanent ones grow in.

13.01.2022 The Links to Heart Disease Poor dental hygiene (lack of brushing and flossing) can lead to other health problems not related to the mouth, including problems associated with the heart. Inflammation, which is the human bodys natural response to irritation, injury, or infection of tissue, has been shown to be a major risk factor for heart disease. While inflammation is meant to have a protective effect, untreated chronic inflammation can lead to more severe health complicatio...ns. Both periodontal disease (severe, chronic gum disease) and cardiovascular disease are inflammatory diseases, and inflammation is the common factor that connects these two disease states. Medical research is now showing that periodontal disease may increase the inflammation level throughout the body. This is why it is so important to practice good oral hygiene at home, including a twice daily routine of brushing and once daily regimen of flossing. By sustaining this habit of cleaning at home, you will keep the level of harmful bacteria low, thereby reducing the load on your immune system and resulting inflammation. See more

12.01.2022 What is Gum Disease ? Gum disease affects most people at some time during their life. It is usually caused by a build-up of plaque on teeth. One of the common signs of gum disease is bleeding gums. Careful and regular cleaning of your teeth and gums each day can help prevent gum disease. Getting treatment for dental problems early can help save teeth that are at risk from gum disease and other conditions. See your dentist or oral health professional if you have swollen or ble...eding gums or loose teeth. The different stages of gum disease The two main stages of gum disease are gingivitis and periodontitis. Gingivitis Gingivitis is early gum disease and occurs when dental plaque builds up on teeth, particularly where the gum joins the tooth. The signs of gingivitis are bleeding, redness and swelling of the gum. Periodontitis Periodontitis is an advanced gum disease that may occur if gingivitis is not treated. The gum margin the part of the gum that seals to the tooth, is weakened and spaces form between the tooth and the gum. These spaces are called periodontal pockets. Bacteria and their products become trapped in these pockets causing further inflammation (redness and swelling). The structures affected by periodontitis include the covering of the tooth root (cementum), the bone and the fibres that connect the cementum to the bone (periodontal ligament). As the disease progresses and bone is lost, larger spaces begin to form between the tooth and the gum. Signs of periodontitis include bleeding, swelling and receding gums together with bad breath, a bad taste in the mouth and loose teeth. Cleaning teeth can help prevent gum disease You should clean your teeth carefully every day with a soft, small-headed toothbrush, especially along the gumline where the gum meets the tooth. This ensures the gum tissue and supporting structures remain healthy. The careful use of dental floss between teeth also assists in removal of plaque. While it is tempting to avoid cleaning your gums when they are inflamed and bleeding, brushing will help improve the situation. Seek dental care Like many conditions, early intervention to treat gum diseases can ensure the longevity of your teeth. If you have swollen or bleeding gums or your teeth feel loose, see your dentist or oral health professional. The dentist or oral health professional will examine your gums with a probe to measure the spaces between the tooth and gum. This will determine the health of your gums and supporting structures. If necessary, the dentist or oral health professional will instruct you in tooth cleaning techniques or may clean your teeth professionally to remove any plaque and calculus (hardened plaque).

03.01.2022 Most people tend to brush their teeth too hard, which in turn can wear out your gums. You should be brushing in a bottom-to-top circular motion. Use care to not speed through brushing, taking at least 2-3 minutes to do a thorough job.

02.01.2022 Mouth-Healthy Foods and Drinks The best food choices for the health of your mouth include cheeses, chicken or other meats, nuts, and milk. These foods are thought to protect tooth enamel by providing the calcium and phosphorus needed to remineralize teeth (a natural process by which minerals are redeposited in tooth enamel after being removed by acids). Other food choices include firm/crunchy fruits (for example, apples and pears) and vegetables. These foods have a high water... content, which dilutes the effects of the sugars they contain, and stimulate the flow of saliva (which helps protect against decay by washing away food particles and buffering acid). Acidic foods, such as citrus fruits, tomatoes, and lemons, should be eaten as part of a larger meal to minimize the acid from them. Poor food choices include candy -- such as lollipops, hard candies, and mints -- cookies, cakes, pies, breads, muffins, potato chips, pretzels, french fries, bananas, raisins, and other dried fruits. These foods contain large amounts of sugar and/or can stick to teeth, providing a fuel source for bacteria. In addition, cough drops should be used only when necessary as they, like sugary candy, contribute to tooth decay. The best beverage choices include water (especially fluoridated water), milk, and unsweetened tea. Limit your consumption of sugar-containing drinks, including soft drinks, lemonade, and coffee or tea with added sugar. Also, avoid day-long sipping of sugar-containing drinks -- day-long sipping exposes your teeth to constant sugar and, in turn, constant decay-causing acids.
