22.01.2022 The March issue of Wilderness & Environmental Medicine is now online! This is the first issue of the new year, and as such, we have published our annual reviewe...r thank you, which recognizes those individuals who volunteered their time as peer reviewers for the journal in 2019. This issue also contains a 2019 update to the WMS clinical practice guidelines for hyponatremia. CME is available for that article, as well as for two other articles (Cardiovascular Disease and Triathlon-Related Deaths in the United Kingdom plus Exercise in Thermal Inversions: PM2.5 Air Pollution Effects on Pulmonary Function and Aerobic Performance). This weekend might be a good time to stay in and get some reading done. Login at wms.org/research/journal and click on the blue "Member Journal Access" button to get started. Once youre done, go to the Members/CME page on our website to claim credit.

18.01.2022 Latest COVID Update 30th September Due to the COVID pandemic, which in turn is effecting our ability to travel interstate now and into the future I have made the really tough decision to cancel all future courses in QLD, NSW and SA. This has not been an easy decision for me and obviously effects the business hugely. Simply though, I cannot see how our trainers will be able to travel interstate now or into the future without possible quarantine issues. If you are booked onto ...a course with Survive and have paid please let Leah know your bank details and we will refund you any money you have paid. [email protected] At this stage in Victoria, Tasmania and WA we have started running courses again as we have trainers based permanently in these states. Cheers Adam Thanks for your continued support during this time

09.01.2022 Friday 12th June - Latest COVID update regarding training. Yesterday (11th June) some good news, the ARC updated there stance on first aid training and released the following statement. As the restrictions introduced to mitigate the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic reduce, the ARC recommends that training courses may be carefully reintroduced. ... The ARC recommends that trainers complete a risk assessment for all training courses and follow National, State/Territorial and local Health and Safety, Infection Control and Occupational Safety requirements to safely facilitate training Whats does this mean? Survive will certainly start to plan for future courses, however unfortunately this doesnt mean we will start running courses immediately. Due to some restrictions still in place, social distancing, infection control measures, closed borders and the potential of a second wave we will still hold off on running courses in the next month or so but hope to be back and running some courses in late July / August. I will release another update on this in a couple of weeks and hope to be able to confirm a start date. Thanks for your continued support during this time. Cheers Adam

06.01.2022 Latest COVID Update 3 August Unfortunately due to the latest COVID Stage 4 Lockdown here in Victoria, which in turn is effecting our ability to travel interstate now and into the future I have made the really tough decision to cancel all future courses in QLD, NSW and SA. This has not been an easy decision for me and obviously effects the business hugely Simply though, I cannot see how our trainers will be able to travel interstate now or into the future. I really hope we wil...l be able to start up again and run courses in these states in the future however when that will be is completely unknown at this stage. If you are booked onto a course with Survive and have paid please let Leah know your bank details and we will refund you any money you have paid. 05.01.2022 Time to update your first aid kit. Get in before the 30th Nov.
05.01.2022 Technology can definitely help with rescues in the wilderness but this is next level!..... Air ambulance crews in the Lake District could soon be joined by jet-powered paramedics, after trials showed they can locate and assist injured hikers in a fraction of the time of land-bound rescuers.
05.01.2022 Something which is always taught but is it necessary............ No statistical increase in on-scene times was found when traction splints were used and there was a good analgesic effect. A statistically significant decrease in the need for blood transfusions was demonstrated while there was no significant increase in vascular or nerve complications with traction splint application. There is a clear need for pre-hospital providers to maintain familiarisation with traction splints, although they may become a tool of the past.

02.01.2022 Hey Everyone, Hope that youre all keeping well in these still strange times. In light of COVID 19 restrictions easing around the country I just wanted to update you all with whats happening with Survive courses at the moment. ... Unfortunately were still very much in the dark and unsure about future courses. The ARC still recommends that the teaching of routine first aid and resuscitation courses should be postponed until the current COVID-19 pandemic has abated and expert consensus opinion is that there is no longer an unnecessary risk involved in participating in a course. The ARC recommends that the requirement for resuscitation training and re-certification be considered in the light of the current concerns. Although restrictions are being lifted, social distancing remains in place and its pretty impossible to run the practical elements of our courses with effective social distancing and appropriate disinfecting/cleaning of all the gear, so at this stage we still dont have a clear definitive start date. We are however using the time to move part of our training of the course online which would mean you will be able to start your training soon and then complete the practical assessments when were able too. I will release an update on when the course is able to be started online in the future. Take care everyone Adam
