24.01.2022 Co-Parenting in a Time of Pandemic by Lucy and Rebekah Mannering Coparenting with your ex can be challenging and complex at the best of times. Coparenting through a once-in-a-hundred year pandemic is a whole new ball game - with no rule book. It is literally unprecedented in the legal sense of the word. There’s no real guidelines on whether or not a parenting agreement or court order applies when one parent is in isolation and one isn’t. There’s no guidance on how...Continue reading

13.01.2022 The Family Law Courts (Federal Circuit Court and Family Court) have put in place a special list to deal with parenting matters impacted by Covid-19. The criteria is: a. the application has been filed as a direct result of the COVID-19 pandemic; b. the matter is urgent; ... c. the application is accompanied by an Affidavit (using the COVID-19 template affidavit for the Family Court or Federal Circuit Court) that addresses the criteria set out in paragraph 13 below; d. if safe to do so, reasonable attempts have been made to resolve the issue, but were unsuccessful; and e. the matter is capable of being dealt with by electronic means. http://www.familycourt.gov.au//fcoaweb/about/news/jpd032020 We strongly suggest that you seek urgent legal advice if you have parenting matters impacted by Covid-19. Remember we are all in this together, and what may feel like reasonable action now may not feel so reasonable when you are facing the Court.

02.01.2022 Welcome to 2020! We hope everyone is surviving being back at work (for those who worked and volunteered over the Christmas period, thank you). A very important part of co-parenting is communicating, and that can mean having a discussion early about how you will, as co-parents, treat public and school holidays. Being prepared and knowing what is going on will make for a calmer co-parenting relationship and therefore calmer children. 2020 Public Holidays can be found here: h...ttps://www.fairwork.gov.au//publi/list-of-public-holidays 2020 School Holidays can be found here: https://www.australia.gov.au//special-da/school-term-dates Don't forget though, some school (especially Catholic or private schools) may have different holiday dates.
