24.01.2022 A small snapshot of what Teri and I spoke about on Engendered Podcast - I highly recommend you check out this show - you'll see me there, as well as more familiar voices! #podcast #MeToo https://engendered.us/episode-128-survviorstories-series-w/
24.01.2022 Our lack of willingness as a nation to support & intervene in these young women's lives robs them of their future potential. We can do better for our adolescent girls, and rather than hating them, we can choose to value their lives. #education #MeToo #AbuseSurvivor

24.01.2022 No profession is safe from sexual predation. Wherever there is an imbalance of power, sexual violence lingers. https://mediaconnections.com.au/dyson-heydon-should-we-rea/

22.01.2022 A distressing phone call just two months after the Sentencing hearing shook me to the core when I was informed the perpetrator intended to lodge an application for exemption from the Sex Offender Registry. #rapesurvivor #abusesurvivor #victimrights https://mediaconnections.com.au/child-rapist-applies-for-e/
13.01.2022 Have you seen this? A few weeks ago, I wrote to Jill Hennessy MP and this is the EXACT response I got. I was so disturbed by the entire letter, that when I sat down members of her office last week, I firmly recommended they needed stronger oversight of the Womens Legal Service, AND - they needed to provide services for male, queer and non-binary Survivors. ... I can't tell you disappointed I've been with her response to Survivors' concerns over this legislative stuff up. It seriously calls into question the level of professionalism at play and even questions of adequacy for the role of Attorney-General. #LetUsSpeak #LetHerSpeak #MeToo #MeTooMovement #rapesurvivor #Melbourne https://www.news.com.au///31e8c1b17b3da28f01f9d025a3a78f26
07.01.2022 There is almost always a personal relationship between Survivors and the Perpetrator. We are indoctrinated to believe sexual violence only happens with strangers in dark alleyways but this is a lie. #MeToo #AbuseSurvivor

05.01.2022 Mental health care is a crisis in Australia, affecting 1 in 4 Australians at some point in their lives - so what does our mental health care system look like, and what’s it like to experience a mental health condition in Australia? On this episode of Good Girls Don’t Ashleigh shares her story and experiences of navigating the convoluted system that works to devalue and deny the experiences of people with mental illness, including the dramatic impact of trauma. We chatted ab...out: How easily mental health conditions can go undiagnosed, misdiagnosed, or mistreated for a long time. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is the 3rd most commonly diagnosed mental health issue. So why don’t we hear about it? What’s the difference between PTSD and C-PTSD? Why does Trauma get swept under the rug or get ‘forgotten’ about psychologically? What happens when Doctors behave badly? The impact of medication on mental health but also the emotional and physical impacts. The stigmas attached to mental health, especially borderline personality disorder, bipolar, and schizophrenia. Why mental health isn’t always appropriately funded by the government. The hardships of actually being able to access mental health care. https://www.youtube.com/watch #Feminism #feminist #makeadifference #bethechange #girlpower #selflove #inspire #inspo #womensrights #equality #equalrights #fiercewomen #womeninleadership #podcast #spotify #itunes #trailblazers See more
05.01.2022 Co-host Ashleigh Rae shares her experience of seeking justice after being raped as a child. It's a deep conversation and not for the faint-hearted. We discuss her compassion for the offender's family, the obstacles and support through-out the process of seeking justice, and the complexity of emotions around obtaining accountability and justice. We discussed; The reactions and responses from loved ones. The rights of survivors and offenders of sexual violence. The sensitivity... and insensitivity of the professionals involved. What it feels like to confront the offender with an impact statement. We questioned the appropriateness of current sentencing / legal consequences. And how the justice system needs to change to serve both the survivor and the offender in a holistic manner. It's a conversation that all men and women should listen to because there is so much we can learn as a society to not only know how to support those affected by sexual violence but to also understand the necessity of educating all men and women in order to prevent sexual violence. https://www.youtube.com/watch #Feminism #feminist #makeadifference #bethechange #girlpower #selflove #inspire #inspo #womensrights #equality #equalrights #fiercewomen #womeninleadership #podcast #spotify #itunes #trailblazers
04.01.2022 #WeeklyWins It's time to take stock of the things we achieved this week! Our wins are different - they're often precious, small moments that restore more of our self worth and dignity. Moments like wearing a dress for the first time since it happened, or catching your own reflection in the mirror and thinking for the time in a long time, that you look beautiful today. In the thread below, share your wins, those gorgeous moments of recovery deserve to be honored and celebrated!
03.01.2022 I'd like to raise an uncomfortable issue when it comes to the advocacy work Survivors of sexual violence do for the betterment of our collective community - at the grassroots, state, and national levels. Brace yourselves. We've come a long way as a society in our ability to speak about domestic abuse (FV/DV) thanks to the incredible work of several journalists, like Jess N’ Radio and - they've educated the public, given a voice to many Survivors and this is AMAZING. But... ...have you noticed the complete lack of voices, stories, and public advocates for Survivors of sexual violence? Survivors, whose experience is independent of FV/DV? While we've come a long way in (justifiably) funding FV/DV bodies and elevating their voices (and, they are absolutely important voices we need to listen to) we've left behind those who survived sexual violence in a BIG way. We have very few organizations dedicated to supporting Survivors of SA, and those we do have are chronically underfunded, limiting their effectiveness in our communities. Why is that? FV/DV and SA form a Venn Diagram with A LOT of cross-over, but they do have issues that distinguish themselves from each other. And yet, we barely hear from Survivors of SA - their advocacy work goes unnoticed, un-valued, and unpaid. My point is this: we are DELIGHTED to support the FV/DV sector with donations and formal funding - but - what about Survivors of SA? Our work is done quietly, with little recognition or acknowledgment or media attention. Make no mistake - advocating for Survivors IS WORK. It is emotional and intellectual labor that is expected to be done for free. WHY IS THAT THE EXPECTATION? Survivors who show up to Government consultations are featured in the media - DESERVE TO BE PAID for their WORK. We need to examine why we expect Survivors of SA to do this work for free, and why we frown down upon Survivors ask to be paid for their work. Survivors are EXPERTS at the nuances of sexual violence. You wouldn't expect to consult with an Engineer, free of charge, would you? You don't expect a Plumber, Nurse, Vet, or Teacher to do their work for free because their work is VALUED. Why is the work of Survivors any less valuable that of Teachers, Doctors, Pilots, etc? Normalize paying Survivors for their work. If their advocacy work isn't a public service, I don't know what is. #metoo #LeTUsSpeak #vaw #auspol #vicpol #rapesurvivor #abusesurvivor #paysurvivors #LetHerSpeak #melbourne #advocate #payup #
