18.01.2022 My mermaid book 1 in series is free on till 20th of June. Look for ‘Saltwater in the Soul’ www.smashwords.com/books/ - [ ] view/158579 sample from Series.... Bridge asked if I remembered a local story she'd told me about old man Dickerson from John O'Groats. I did. It was about a crofter who found a beautiful woman wandering naked along the shore. They say he tied her hands and dragged her back to his cottage where he detained her, believing he'd been lucky enough to find himself a ‘seal wife’. She went crazy trying to escape, made strange noises, would only eat raw fish and scratched him whenever he tried to approach her. Finally, sometime later, it was said he ran screaming from his own house and never came back. From then on, she locked herself in the cottage and was seen only rarely in the village as a beautiful, silent woman with strange sad eyes and a blank expression. Sometimes, she sold shells to get money for clothes, and was often heard wailing by the sea at night. No one ever found out where she came from, but they all thought she must have been crazy from the start to be found wandering starkers on those chilly shores. They say Nell Dickerson died about twenty years ago.
