25.01.2022 http:// Review // This week on the blog I reviewed Aldis Slim & Trim Choc Mint Flavoured Protein Bar. Like the other Slim & Trim bars, it's not a product I'd recommend. https://susanbuckland.com.au/slim-trim-choc-mint-flavoured/
24.01.2022 And if you don't like the bacon, or don't want the extra added fat, it's absolutely ok to leave the bacon out https://susanbuckland.com.au/roasted-butternut-pumpkin-and/
24.01.2022 Made Simple Wholefood Balls are a great supermarket buy for a tasty, and healthy, snack on the run. You can read more about them on my blog https://susanbuckland.com.au/made-simple-wholefood-balls-p/
23.01.2022 This such a tasty and easy way to do egg and beans. Chose low-salt and sugar baked beans if you can. https://susanbuckland.com.au/baked-egg-beans/
23.01.2022 Although my passion for supporting people with weight management kicked off when I was working for an international weight loss clinic, my understanding of weight management began to consolidate in my time working as a general practice nurse. I’ve been reflecting on my time in general practice today and got to thinking about some of those early lessons learned and have written about these on my blog today. If your primary healthcare team isn’t providing you with the advice or support you’re after, feel free to reach out to me. You can book in for a free 20-minute consultation where we can talk about your individual needs. Book online at https://square.site/book/CBZ4YMA2161F8/susan-buckland

20.01.2022 http:// Micro choices // I consider micro choices to be those decisions we make throughout our day that will serve us or steal from us. This morning I made one to serve me. ... I had a huge training session planned at the gym. When I woke up at 5:30, I knew straight away that I’d put my neck out whilst sleeping I knew that going to gym with this injury would be foolish. Frankly, I would have been happy to go back to sleep. I made the choice though to get out and go for a walk with my #grandson and #dog It was a micro choice that could have gone one way or another. I’m happy with the choice I made. Not so happy however to learn that my #garmin watch did not track my efforts accurately! I would have walked at least 5kms! Did you know that if you’re pushing a pram your activity may not be tracked???
17.01.2022 http:// Dieting History // I think it's pretty fair to say that 100% of the people I work with have some kind of dieting history. For many, these experiences have scarred them, and scared them.... I'm not, by any measure, a fan of one size fits all diets or weight loss programs, but I do know that we can learn from them. Take the time to reflect on your dieting history and ask yourself: - what did you learn? - what did you like, what didn't you? - what are you happy to to try, or never try, again? Taking the time to look back and learn from your experiences can provide you with valuable insights that you can then work into, or eliminate from, your plan moving forward. See more
16.01.2022 http:// Quick breakfast idea // Breakfast ready in under 2 minutes! Using single serve microwave porridge and adding in some fresh fruit once cooked. ... Easy to prep, very tasty, filling and little clean up #quickbreakfast #eatbetter #porridge #weightlosstipsandtricks
15.01.2022 http:// New Free Resource // I encourage most of my clients to track their food and beverage intake for a short period, but its not something I'd recommend long term. Tracking your intake allows you to gain a better understanding of your eating patterns, be more mindful of your habits and makes it easier to identify which habits may require some modification.... There are a number of apps you can use to track your food and beverage intake, but I think its best to keep it simple. I've put together a free printable weekly tracker for you, you can download it from https://susanbuckland.com.au/food-tracker/
15.01.2022 So excited to open my door and see this... made me have a bit of a chuckle and wonder if my Amazon.com.au habits are getting a little out of hand I'm super excited to be trying out some new products. Have the BlenderBottle GoStak starter pack, Kobona 1 litre motivational bottle and a Sivaphe Stainless Steel Tumbler to try. What are your'e favourite portion control and beverage containers?
15.01.2022 Seeds provide us with many nutritional benefits as well as healthy fats. They’re also a good source of fibre and have been found to reduce blood pressure and cholesterol. You can add these Soy Seed Sprinkles to a variety of savoury dishes. I think they work best: mixed through salads... as toppings for vegetables based sandwiches and crisp breads with cream cheese or cottage cheese on toast or crackers sprinkled on top of humous and vegetable based dips https://susanbuckland.com.au/soy-seed-sprinkles/
12.01.2022 http:// Medications and weight gain // Did you know that some prescribed medications may cause weight gain? Some medications may cause an increased appetite, change the way the body burns energy or alterations to how glucose is absorbed and stored. These changes can quite naturally lead to weight gain. ... Weight gain may take just a few months or occur over the course of a year. The amount of weight gained depends on the person as well as the medication prescribed. If you’ve noticed that your weight has been on the rise since starting a new medication it’s really important that you DO NOT stop taking it. Book an appointment with your GP or prescriber to discuss, they may be able to prescribe an alternative for you. Photo Credit: Brett Jordan on @unsplash See more
10.01.2022 http:// Cheat Meals // The topic of conversation in a FB group I belong to was cheat meals. The group has more than 100k members who give each other their best weight loss advice. The question being asked was Can I have one cheat meal a week or will that make me fail?. As always, the advise being dished out was varied but some of it seriously made me want to scream. ... One person proclaimed that one cheat meal will blow your weight loss for the whole week. Another stated it will muck with your metabolism and you’ll never recover. Not good advice. Now, I’m not a fan of the term cheat meal or anything like it. Cheat, cheater, cheating are inherently negative words. I’ve said before, food holds no moral value and the foods that we eat do not make us either a good nor bad person. Whatever your goals are, you need to learn how to strike some kind of balance, and by that I don’t mean eating a kilo of vegetables AND a kilo of chocolate. Completely cutting out foods you love is likely to cause a feeling of deprivation which may lead to overeating those foods in time. Include them into your plan, but be sure to work in MORE of the foods that will see you reach your goals sooner. And no. That ice cream/cake/biscuit IS NOT going to set you back a week, context needed of course, AND it definitely does not mean you’ve failed. #cheatmeal #obesity #weightmanagement #weightlosstips #weightlossjourney #dietadvice #cheatmeals #healthover40 #weightlossover40
09.01.2022 Whilst the dried apricots will add a sugar hit, there is no added sugar or sweeteners in this recipe. This is a super simple one to whip up with only four ingredients and takes less than 10 minutes from go to whoa. https://susanbuckland.com.au/apricot-lemon-balls/
03.01.2022 Did you know that in 2014/15 only around 7% of adult Australians ate the recommended serves of vegetables each day! A pretty low number isn't it. Whilst I was pretty good at eating vegetables before deciding to lose weight, I knew I wasn’t eating enough. So, one of the non-negotiables I worked into my plan was to up my veggie intake. ... I now aim to work vegetables into every meal and whilst my habits have been a bit hit and miss at times, I know that the simple act of bulking out meals with vegetables has served not just my weight loss efforts but my overall health and wellness as well If I don't add a lot of veggies to my main meal I'll often fill up on veg first. Like a bowl of salad with a light olive oil and red wine vinegar dressing or a bowl of steamed veg with some freshly cracked pepper. Easy to prep, filling and full of fibre to aide gut health. #weightloss #vegetables #salad #eatbetter #nonnegotiable #theplan #health #wellness #homecook #obesity #mealprep #australia #guthealth #weightmanagement
02.01.2022 http://New Recipe// If you like your soup hot and spicy, my Spiced Lentil Soup is for you! Like my Roasted Butternut Pumpkin And Bacon Soup and Chicken and Winter Vegetable Soup, this is another great soup recipe to make in bulk, portion and freeze for quick and easy meals. Serve with my flatbread recipe for a healthy and filling meal.... https://susanbuckland.com.au/spiced-lentil-soup/
01.01.2022 I'm no longer subscribing to the @dinnerlyau meal service....not because I don't love it but its but it's not suitable with so many people with various dietary needs in the house I'm still a raving fan of this service though and am really happy to recommend you to try it if the whole meal planning/shopping/cooking thing is too hard for you. I get it, 100%! If you're considering, or currently using Dinnerly, and are actively in weight loss, or weight management mode there are a few things I want you to consider
