19.01.2022 Perseveration is a really fancy word that often gets used to describe certain "autistic behaviors" - though, it is by no means exclusive to autism. 17.01.2022 Parents, even teacher parents, give yourself and your kids grace right now. And when you think youve given enough, give some more. BE who they need you to be, ...even if that means academic work doesnt get to take priority. If you put too much burden on yourself it will be difficult to remain regulated and navigate this with your kids. See more

14.01.2022 Six month-ish into the pandemic, this is a lovely reminder to not give up on 2020 and to keep showing up and keep doing good ...

14.01.2022 Priorities must be adjusted this year.

13.01.2022 Healthcare workers are required by DHHS to wear facemasks and eye protection: <<>> We are yet to see if these requirements will be lifted during Steps 2-3 of the Vic Roadmap. In the meantime, many assessments are being postponed because components of them cannot be administered in a reliable and valid manner with the clinicians lips/mouth being covered by the mask. Essential face-to-face counselling has continued and can continue, with the clinician and client wearing facemasks. Most of us are already used to this: children and adults included. We focus more on the upper-face. Hearing people can continue to focus on the voice: tone, volume, rate, etc. We can also observe the shifting of the facemask - we may not see the lips and mouth but we can see and observe the movement of the facemask and the cheeks. It works. It is OK. We have been and will continue to protect each other by wearing facemasks. And if facemasks are a barrier, eg for people who rely on lip-reading, we can continue with telehealth video consultations. Lets remain as positive as we can.

10.01.2022 Second hand gifts is a great way to reduce your carbon footprint!! Instead of shopping on Amazon consider shopping on your local Buy and Sell!! I remember the f...irst year that I asked for a second hand bar fridge and the looks I got! I didn’t get the second hand gift but I did get a heartfelt homemade gift that I absolutely loved!! Time to rethink second hand gifts! Thanks Ecoconsciousmum for the great post! #crapfreechristmas #giftgiving #thinkdifferently #normalizesecondhand #reducereuserecycle #fillvernonsrefillstore #fillvernon See more

06.01.2022 The 3 Simple Questions to Improve Your Emotional Intelligence. When youre in an emotional moment, before you respond or say anything, ask yourself: - What unme...t need in me is this feeling about? - Where does this feeling come from in my past (why is it so strong)? - How can I contain my feelings and communicate my needs calmly? Its easy for us to say too much especially when youre in an emotional moment. Get into a habit of asking those 3 questions especially when youre in a very emotional moment.

06.01.2022 Abuse must be called out, every single time, everywhere. Restrictive practices are not helpful or therapeutic and must stop. Conversion therapies for autistic people must stop and made illegal.... The pathologising of neurodivergent people must stop.

04.01.2022 I remember my parents were told by a school principal that I needed to harden up. They had gone in to see him about the intense bullying that had been happening... to me since starting school. Getting bullied didnt harden me up, it caused trauma that I still hold within me today. Compassion and understanding is so important. It wont make us soft at all. It will make us feel supported, like we have a team behind us. Bex See more

03.01.2022 What to tell mum when you're one of the first people to fly out into space and it's top secret?

02.01.2022 The Veteran Mentors are the only residential program I am aware of in Australia that is designed to help adolescents reduce their excessive screen time(s) and re-balance screen-time with other activities. I do not know if and how they operate during the pandemic. If you are interested, please do ask them directly. Other programs Im aware of are in China, South Korea and Japan. I think we need one locally ... Short of a local program, you can look for a good Family Screentime Plan and adapt it to your family unit.
