24.01.2022 On Tuesday night, we were honoured to watch my Dad and number one Sales Agent Ranald Grant (its not nepotism if hes really good at it!) receive an award from Professor Suzi Derbyshire for 20 years of service with QUTs mentoring program. In his twenty years, Ranald has worked with many local and international students QUT students all of whom have greatly appreciated the guidance and support he has given them as they look to completing their studies and prepare themselves ...for interviews a new workplace and the next stage of their lives. Weve all been there and its not easy. Its actually really hard. Going through the application process, video interviews, group interviews, one-on-one interviews, aptitude tests and other evaluations theres a lot that goes into getting that job and support in the way of preparation and guidance is really important. I know each year that Dad shares the excitement with those students as they find themselves their dream job and is thrilled with the part he has played in helping them show their new employer everything they have to offer. Congratulations Ranald. For all those students who take up the offer of a Mentor within QUTs mentoring program, you have helped them in the first step of a really important part of their lives. And Congratulations QUT for 25 years of supporting a vital program for their students. There were 150 mentors, mentees and QUT staff there on Tuesday night. 02.01.2022 Every home we sell has an interesting and important history. However, as Agents, it's not very often that we are fortunate enough to learn about the beginnings of an almost 80-year-old home. But on Saturday morning, we were really excited to be able to meet a member of the family who grew up in our little cutie - 80 Thorn Street in Ipswich. As Rhonda looked through her childhood home, it was obvious that some fantastic memories had been made within its walls. An azalea hedge ...out the front, a nice big vegetable garden along the side and a fern-house out the back are no longer there - but are definitely not forgotten. All three girls of the family had their wedding photos taken at the top of the stairs. The stylish art-deco home with the red pathway and the perfectly laid tiles up the steps would have made a stunning backdrop for three newly married couples. A piano in the Dining Room, a Sewing Room just off the Sunroom... life at 80 Thorn Street, Ipswich, then, must have been fun, busy, noisy, and happy. Built in 1940, Rhondas parents fell in love with the design at an exhibition. With a two-year-old (and no doubt plans for a couple more) Rhondas parents must have had a great vision for how they wanted to live. They paid 700 for the house in 1940, and an extra 100 for the garage and carport. A stylish home with a very functional layout. The land was sub-divided off their poppas house next door on the corner of Thorn and Moffitt Streets. At 607sqm, it was big enough for the house, the garden, the all-important vegetable garden and a lawn that Rhondas Dad maintained like it was the local Bowling Green. I have so much admiration for Rhondas parents, and their forethought and consideration as they chose a home (from a house design not a display centre!) for their family that suited them as a young couple with a toddler, followed by another two girls who all too quickly I expect grew up to be teenagers (separate living areas who needs those?), then slowly became Empty Nesters and loving grandparents as their girls married and started their own families. Rhondas parents lived in the home until 2005. Everything that must have been so carefully selected by Rhondas parents, the ceiling roses, the gorgeous curve at the front of the house, the sunroom along the side of the house and the original kitchen with its own curves still make this home so very special today.
