25.01.2022 Today marks 20 years since Sydney hosted the Olympic and Paralympic Games! At Sydney 2000, there were 31 University of Sydney Olympic and Paralympic student athletes. Representing a range of sports from diving, basketball, rowing and swimming. We’ve chosen to showcase just one of those - Loudy Tourky (née Wiggins) is a former Australian diver who won a bronze medal in the 10m synchronised platform event at the Sydney 2000 Olympics with Rebecca Gilmore (another Sydney Univer...sity Olympian). Loudy and Rebecca became the first Australians to win an Olympic medal in diving since 1924 and the first female Australian divers to earn an Olympic medal! Loudy was on scholarship with us and studied a Bachelor of Arts (Media and Communications) graduating in 2005 Sydney Uni Sport & Fitness University of Sydney Australian Olympic Team #SUSFEliteAthleteProgram #AcademicAthletes

04.01.2022 PHILANTHROPY SPOTLIGHT: Mollie Dive OAM Scholarship (Cricket) & Mollie Dive OAM Scholarship (Hockey) 2020 Recipients: Rachel Trenaman CRICKET (B. Commerce & B. Advanced Studies) & Alice Arnott HOCKEY (M. Public Health) Who is Mollie Dive OAM?... Mollie was known for her excellence on the cricket oval and the hockey field. She stayed involved with these sports as a coach and administrator long after her playing days were over. She was a New South Wales and Australian selector, President of the New South Wales Women's Cricket Association and a member of the executive of the Australian Women's Cricket Association. She was also associated with the Sydney University Women's Sports Association for fifty years. Her achievements and contribution to sport were recognised in 1987 when she was awarded an Order of Australia medal for her services to sport. Mollie didn't play her first formal game of cricket until she went to Sydney University in 1932. Mollie represented Australia with great distinction at both women's cricket and hockey. She left university with Blues in cricket and hockey, a science degree and captaincy of the Australian team that had the first ever Ashes win over England in 1948-49. Dr Margaret Tyrrell has very generously donated two sporting scholarships in honour of Mollie Dive OAM for women's cricket and hockey. Dr Tyrrell received a Sydney University Hockey Blue in 1953. Through Dr Tyrrell’s generosity, we honour the legacy of Mollie Dive, who was one of Sydney University’s champion women's cricket and hockey players of the 1930s. www.susf.com.au/five-by-25.html Sydney Uni Sport & Fitness Sydney University Hockey Club Universities Women's Cricket Club #SUSFEliteAthleteProgram #AcademicAthletes

Grad-Gander is a new series we have put together with past Elite Athlete Program members to showcase our alumni and what they have been up to post-university life. Their impact is immense from mentoring students to showing their support for Sydney Uni Sport & Fitness and the wider community.
