17.01.2022 Today’s Examiner (8 January) includes a Feature Letter on page 14 which contributes to the range of views being expressed by community members on the State Gove...rnment’s proposed Northern Prison project. Meander Valley Council feels the letter provided an unfair representation of the liveability of the beautiful township of Westbury. Westbury is a great place to visit, live and work and, contains an abundance of natural, cultural and built heritage. Westbury also has an engaged and vibrant local community and hosts a number of successful local events. The Westbury Shamrocks Cricket Club’s 70th anniversary is one such event that Council encourages everyone to attend. The celebration of this significant milestone will take place at Westbury’s recently re-developed recreational function space and was also covered in same edition of the Examiner (page 34). Westbury has many proud, local businesses offering exceptional food and beverage options catering for a quick takeaway or a relaxed and inviting sit down meal. There are also numerous quality accommodation providers that welcome many tourists on a daily basis. Regardless of the final outcome of the Northern Prison project, Westbury will continue to be a fantastic place to live, work, invest and visit. Council encourages everyone to continue to enjoy this wonderful part of Tasmania and the Meander Valley municipality.
