21.01.2022 If you watch this and don't feel some sort of emotion, then you're not human. My son thinks they're just protesting on tv. I think it's much more than this - BRILLIANT

20.01.2022 Hoping you're keeping well, as can be, during this unprecedented time in the world, particularly Victoria, where I am. I'm not going to add voice to the new regulations in Victoria. But I do want to acknowledge the situation, particularly in regards to waste. Avoiding waste and recycling right is incredibly important, especially during this time. There is additional pressure on our already challenged waste system. There has been an increase in the contamination of recycling, ...which adds further pressure. To top this off, Victoria is in a declared state of disaster, and we need to be mindful of this. Please be understanding that people are doing the best they can. But it's not a one size fits all. Some people are virtually waste free, as normal Some are starting out Some are in situations where they’re creating more waste than they’d like to Many have added pressure in their lives and just want to get through this Others are somewhere in between Wherever you are in your sustainability journey, that’s ok I’d also like to acknowledge that while many can work from home or stay home, there are many essential workers who are out every day. Thank you to essential workers who are out there supporting our communities Please be supportive of them Well done to those standing by their values and continuing to reduce waste and be sustainable Be kind if the business owner is taking precautions. Accept these are challenging times, and don't be harsh on yourself, or someone else, if waste is unavoidable. It happens Stay strong, we can do this

20.01.2022 Wow, just wow. Shark liver oil helps make vaccines and a COVID-19 vaccine could further imperil deep-sea sharks https://www.nationalgeographic.com//why-covid-19-vaccine-/

19.01.2022 Back to schooling kids at home with the second pandemic wave in Melbourne. Off to a great start with two kids who couldn't be bothered with breakfast. Which is unusual for my teenager who nibbled at an apple and my youngest had 2 bites of a banana. Now looking for something to eat in between classes saying it's because he's bored I'm going to bake something deceptively healthy and filling for snacks - wholemeal banana cake. Because I have a stash of overripe bananas in the ...freezer. While there is a part of me, that enjoyed them at home last time, even though it was a juggle. The novelty is not the same this time. Session one and they are both having a winge about what they have to do. Joy! I'm going to put in an extra effort to bake some of their favourites to help them through. My youngest is coming up with ideas of things we can bake together. My teenager just grunts. But he likes to eat. We can do this, and I tell myself it's warmer inside. So it's a good place to be, Right? How is your first day back at home schooling?

14.01.2022 I love that The Full Pantry Store & Cafe are proudly accepting reusable coffee cups. You place it down, and they fill it without touching it. You can also buy your pantry supplies there and they're doing takeaway too. Located on Maroondah Highway, I love this place!... Plastic Free July is over, but we still keep doing it plastic free

14.01.2022 Would love if you could vote for Lids4Kids Australia. They rescue plastic bottle lids from landfill to be repurposed into other products. They could win a $10,000 grant - but they need votes. I'm not associated - But I love what they're trying do https://www.westfield.com.au//LPy3A9YzZk/local-heroes-2020

14.01.2022 The environmental issue with this pandemic is really quite sad. And these masks do so little to even protect you. And it would be cheaper in the long run to use reusables

11.01.2022 New Zealand has a goal of 100 percent renewable electricity by 2030. Why are our decision makers in Australia, so adverse to it?

11.01.2022 There's something special about spring blossoms. And we need to make the most of them, because in the blink of an eye they're gone, until next year. Hoping for a few more sunny days, where I can get off zoom and have more time to savour the beauty of spring. These are nectarine flowers, so delicious fruits could follow.... Have you sprung into spring? #spring #springhassprung #springtime #springinmelbourne #nectarineblossom #nectarineblooms #gardenersofinstagram #gardeninginmelbourne #permaculture #ediblegarden #edibleblossoms

11.01.2022 You know you're getting through the pandemic apocalypse when you get a text message saying you can now drink the tap water. This after being without power for over 20 hours. Makes you think about how dependent we are on the system for our elemental basics.... Did you lose power in the storm? And how would you be after losing power overnight, waking to learn that your water is unsafe to drink. And that your power was expected to be off until early evening (even though you have solar power and the sun was out)

11.01.2022 Germany is telling suppliers of litter to pay for garbage sweeps. A step to producer responsibility - we need to have more of this https://www.dw.com//you-pay-germany-tells-suppl/a-54641935

10.01.2022 Great, way to use overripe bananas and healthy snack for kids schooling at home. WHOLEMEAL BANANA LOAF 60 g butter 125 g sugar... 1 egg 3 ripe bananas, mashed 240 g plain wholemeal plain flour 3 teaspoons baking powder 1 teaspoon cinnamon 100 grams walnuts, chopped ( optional - we didn't have any so I left out this time) 80 ml milk Preheat oven to 180C and grease a 20cm tin. Beat butter and sugar Add egg and mashed bananas and beat until combined. Combine the wholemeal plain flour, baking powder, cinnamon. Gently fold into the mixture with the walnuts. Add the milk and fold to combine. Spoon mixture into tin and bake for 50-60 minutes, or until a skewer inserted comes out clean. Stand for 5 minutes in the tin before turning onto a wire rack to cool. Note: this could also be done in a loaf tin and is best done with super ripe banana that are almost past the point of eating. Ripe bananas can be frozen, until ready to use. Which is what I did this time.

09.01.2022 French toast is a great way to take bread past its best and make yourself a treat. 2 eggs with about half a cup of milk. I don't always measure - a couple of splashes works. Less milk is fine too.... You can add a sprinkle of sugar or salt if you want sweet or savoury. Fry up and enjoy. What's your favourite way to use up bread?

07.01.2022 There are studies being done into marine mammals acquiring COVID from humans. Gosh I hope that's not the case https://www.rcinet.ca//marine-mammals-may-be-at-risk-of-c/

06.01.2022 Today is World Gratitude Day - what are you grateful for? My list is long and starts with the food I had for breakfast, the roof over my head and my children - although it's early and the kids could be driving me crazy before lunch I am also grateful that for 2 weeks that I don't have to push my kids to have breakfast before school starts.... Even though we're in the most unsettled time with this pandemic, there's still a lot we have, to be grateful for.

05.01.2022 Great initiative from Australian Parents for Climate Action to bring solar to Australian schools, kindergardens and childcare centres. This will give them free power - which is huge for schools and then they will feed the excess back to the grid to power the community. Sign the open letter here to support the campaign bit.ly/3hJExHP... Get your kids to draw a picture of the sun, post it on social media and send it to send to Scott Morrison.
