18.01.2022 This week we welcomed Year 2 from Lutheran School Wagga Wagga to the Marrambidya Wetland for a morning of adventure! Students were invited to hug trees, spot birds, draw and write to capture their experience, and create ephemeral artworks using materials found on site. We hope you loved it Year 2!

17.01.2022 Our keen-eyed Vegetation Management Officer Matt recently spotted this Tiger Orchid whilst out and about. These thin stemmed, grass like orchids can be difficult to spot amongst the leaf litter, but keep an eye to the ground when adventuring as these beauties flower from spring through to summer.

17.01.2022 Would you know what to do if you encountered an injured native animal? Wagga Wagga City Council has recently installed signage in known hot spots for wildlife injury, prompting road users to contact WIRES if they spot an animal needing assistance. Signs have been installed at Lake Albert where turtles have been more active in the warmer weather, and also at Kapooka where there is habitat for the endangered Squirrel Glider.... Always ensure your own safety before providing assistance.

For 31 years this national event has seen volunteers clean litter from parks, reserves, rivers and beaches. Register online at www.cleanup.org.au ... 13.01.2022 Council has successfully secured $72,000 in funding through the 'Increasing Resilience to Climate Change' program. The funding will be used to map vegetation cover and identify urban heat islands to inform Council priorities for a new urban canopy strategy. Long-term targets for canopy coverage rates will also be established and initial planting undertaken through this project. Vegetation plays a significant role in cooling our suburbs and this project will provide meaningfu...l and practical action as our climate changes. 02.01.2022 We were busy bee's last week installing bee hotels at Kapooka Early Childhood Centre Inc. and Gumnut Cottage Wagga Wagga Tafe Children's Centre. Did you know that Australia has over 1500 species of native bees? And that most Australian native bees are solitary? We hope the students see some bee-autiful bees checking in for a visit to their hotels soon!

02.01.2022 There is something new and blue in the Cross Street car park off Tarcutta Street! A brand new fast charger was officially launched today that will support local ownership of electric vehicles and encourage touring 'EV' owners to charge up and check out Wagga Wagga. A strong network of charge points is essential for the uptake of electric vehicles which supports a transition to a low carbon future.... The station was co-funded by the NSW Government and The NRMA.
