21.01.2022 We have had the joy of meeting many talented artists in this year’s Waste to Art, including Tammy Briggs. Her entry into Waste to Art 2020 includes a sculpture Blue Light Chromatics made from unwanted objects and recycled materials. She describes her artwork as an exploration of how the ‘Hand of Creativity’ is inspired by repurposing the obsoleted use of an object to create a work of art that will persevere through the human need of discarding something just because they have had it a long time. 12.01.2022 Diana Boyds’s artwork is titled ‘I love her jewel-sea ‘. It is a series of small intimate artworks depicting Lake Macquarie and its beautiful beaches. It is inspired by the poem ‘My Country’ by Dorothea MacKellar, and in particular the line; I love her jewel-sea. In her artist statement, Diana cites given the location to beaches and the lake, it was easy to find subject matter for my piece. I walk the foreshore daily but get very disheartened and overwhelmed by the waste tha...t washes up. Waste materials used for her artwork include floorboards, denim jeans, leather handbag, matboard. aluminium cans, fire extinguisher tag, wineglass, venetian blinds, soldering wire, copper wire, plastic pen lids, timber building materials and paper bag handles. If you are interested in purchasing these artworks, please contact or visit the Waste to Art Exhibition at SEEN@Swansea. @seeyasister French For Tuesday #wastetoart #wasteasart #wastetoart2020 #recycledmaterials #ourlakemac #upcycle #foundmaterials #discardedmaterials #handcreated #lakemacquarieartist #repurposed #reclaimedmaterials #upcycledenim #jewelsea #lakemaccreatives #reducewaste #upcycledwaste See more

04.01.2022 Meet Ben Gibson. His artwork titled Recycled Skate Wood is the result of turning old and broken skateboard decks, that were destined for landfill, into beautiful pieces of usable art. Examples photos of the progression stages of Bens artworks are included and consist of the skate decks being stripped of their grip tape and then roughly ground both sides with a grinder to remove any glue residue and skatepark crud. The various sections of the deck are cut out and glued depe...nding on the item being made. Once glued, the timber is roughly shaped before being turned on a lathe into the finished piece. It is sanded and sealed with a food grade polish. The bulk of Bens materials are sourced from a handful of local pro and amateur skateboarders from the Lake Macquarie/Newcastle area. However, it was his son and his collection of old skate decks that inspired him to create something useful from them. 01.01.2022 Caves Beach Crop Swap, with artist Kimberly Brown, have created a painting/mosaic titled Rubbish Reef for Waste to Art 2020. It showcases the disposable, limited-use plastics found within Caves Beach. All plastics were collected by her friend Helen (from her winter walks along Caves Beach) and include bottle caps, polystyrene, bean bag filler, fluorescent glow sticks, tile spacers, silicon tube caps, netting, clothes pegs, lost sandals and lolly packaging. The artwork is i...nspired by the Great Barrier Reef, which Kimberly quotes is facing the peril of increasingly frequent bleaching events that scour the coral to shades of ivory. The result is the artwork you see before you now: a disturbing mosaic showcasing the price of high convenience. If you are interested in purchasing this amazing artwork, please contact or visit the Waste to Art Exhibition at SEEN@Swansea.
