25.01.2022 Sustainable beverage packaging in Tonga, 2013

25.01.2022 Happy First Day of SUSTAINABLE SEPTEMBER 2017! Once again I'm especially focusing my energy on giving and offering help to others in the community while spending no money on food or drink for the whole month. I've set up a GoFundMe to raise money for food for others in need - The street kids of The Jeevan School of Life in Varanasi, India and the homeless food service at St. Patrick's Community Centre in Fremantle. The Practise of Aparigraha (non-attachment, greedlessness) is the focus. One single bowl of broccoli & brown rice every day for the 30 days of September, starting today. What is 'enough to eat' for you?

25.01.2022 Sustainable September Dinner - with gratitude for my friends in Hobart, Tasmania, who made my stay here so much better for them being in it! Home grown, homemade, donated, traded and lovingly prepared foods made to share. Thank you for making the dinner such a success. I wanted to offer to cook for everybody I knew in Hobart with what I had left in the garden and cupboard but everybody pitched in and made it a FEAST! Thank you. Hope you all enjoyed the challenge.

24.01.2022 Commotion in the ocean - sustainable seafood never looked so appetizing! Please share and support this not-for-profit enterprise to promtoe marine biodiversity conservation.

16.01.2022 2015 Touring Tahiti and the Bahamas. Beginning a year of awareness about the detrimental effects of Single Use Plastics. REplace, REduce, REuse, REcycle. ... What can we do about single use food packaging? Could we invest in a community plastics shredder and make indigenous woven products from this recycled plastic? We noticed the generally colourful nature of this packaging and other potential environmental pollutants.

16.01.2022 Im making the most of the days catch. BBQing the frames gave over a kilogram of meat. And two heads gave 4 litres of amazing stock ready to make soup.

16.01.2022 Foraging on edible weeds is a great way to explore on nature's abundance. Nasturtium has many uses: Pesto can be made out of leaves and flowers. All parts can be consumed in salads. Seeds can be pickled or fermented, the end result is just like capers. I dry them and use them in a spice grinder. Leaves can be used as food wraps. Flowers used in soup and as decorations.

14.01.2022 SUSTAINABLE SEAFOOD focus this year. Enjoy!

09.01.2022 If you're not 100% on risking being malnourished, take the time to think ahead and stock the cupboard now with nutritious, healthy and thoughtful foods to back-up the times when your garden or the ocean cannot provide for whatever reason. Share the idea with as many people as you can, you will be surprised who and how the offers and ideas flow :)

09.01.2022 I made it!!!! I did not buy any food or drink for the entire month of september! I learnt a few things along the way. In particular how I choose what to eat with the purpose of keeping my cupboard and fridge organised!!!!!! haha what a stupid reason. It was great to practise going to the garden before going to the fridge, and making the most of the fruit trees (Loket, orange, mulberry) around the house too. I used lemongrass and mint from the garden for tea. ... I always make the most of the fish I catch anyway but this time I measured it up just to see how much I saved. I BBQed the frames of 6 fish that my brother caught and got over a kilogram of meat off the frames (these fish retail at $50-80 per Kilo) I also made 4 litres of amazing stock from the heads of two of the fish. You just can't buy good fish stock! I only shot one fish for myself haha, well at least i got one. We cut it up for schumi and it tasted amazing! The most amazing thing was that every time I thought i was not going to make it something would come up that I could not have planned for! Particularly the generosity of Lars Frischknecht, Kavinda Senasinghe, Michelle Mulholland and Taru Nyman Meagan Boyd. To be totally honest the biggest lesson was that I use food to fill up time in my life when I am lonely (not just eating but buying, planning ect). So I really needed to acknowledge this. Through this challenge I found that doing other things was usually more positive for me. All in all an interesting challenge.

05.01.2022 Would you decapitate a HEAD for your friends? I am on Monday 8 September! 01.01.2022 I've often talked about the idea of how to supply food without any wasted packaging. Sketched up apparatus and posed ideas like "only having one design of glass 1 litre container, one design of beer bottle" so as to cut recycling back to re-using. Action tops talk every time :) http://www.mindbodygreen.com//this-is-what-a-zero-packagin

01.01.2022 The garden glows with all the first buds of spring. Rejoicing at organically growing & seeing for the FIRST time: mustard seeds, dwarf beans, snow peas, a super cool variety of cauliflower NOTHING like what you could pay for at Woolworths, broccoli, leek, pak choi and potato :) A mini Eden is erupting in our small plot of well-loved earth. Love is a beautiful thing!
