25.01.2022 Come join me tomorrow in Samford if you can. Would love to see you :)

24.01.2022 Take some time out on Monday morning at 9:30am for a yin yoga session scheduled for the October new moon. Long held stretches with lots of props (boulsters, blankets, blocks) for support - restoring calm to your mind, and stretching out the kinks. Anyone welcome. No experience necessary. Air conditioned room! 9:30am to 10:45am Zen Space - 225 Mount Glorious Road, Samford.... $16 or $20 for you and a friend.

24.01.2022 Our history of exploitation of nature demonstrates systemic racism - the belief that some peoples of the world are okay to live in contaminated, degraded and unsafe environments. That some peoples sacred places are worthless and able to be sacrificed for economic gain and colonialist control. Environmental justice calls us see that social justice, equity, human rights are imperative to ecological preservation for all beings.

24.01.2022 Need to spend a little time unwinding?

22.01.2022 In this period of public health crisis (which is another manifestation of how exploitative humans are - keeping wild animals locked up for consumption in markets), there have been two serious environmental regressions: Victoria lifted its ban on onshore gas extraction and New South Wales approved a new coal mine. There is a statutory review of the Commonwealth Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act (EPBC Act). Public submissions on this review close on 17 April. The Greens Institute has fantastic resources to help you with your submission writing! Check this out https://www.greeninstitute.org.au/webinar-resources-review/

21.01.2022 This is a beautifully written short article by George Woods captures both a macro and substantial view of our current fossil fuel political economy. Useful perspective in these unsettling and turbulent times when there are a number of voices claiming we cant go back to "normal" yet the forces to resume normal are ridiculously apparent

21.01.2022 This is a short and moving article to read. Now more than ever, we need actively engaging in creating change for all people, animals and the planet. AND we need to take time to love, grieve, celebrate and build resilience for the future.

20.01.2022 Self-care is often a very unbeautiful thing. It is making a spreadsheet of your debt and enforcing a morning routine and cooking yourself healthy meals and no ...longer just running from your problems and calling the distraction a solution. It is often doing the ugliest thing that you have to do, like sweat through another workout or tell a toxic friend you dont want to see them anymore or get a second job so you can have a savings account or figure out a way to accept yourself so that youre not constantly exhausted from trying to be everything, all the time and then needing to take deliberate, mandated breaks from living to do basic things like drop some oil into a bath and read Marie Claire and turn your phone off for the day. A world in which self-care has to be such a trendy topic is a world that is sick. Self-care should not be something we resort to because we are so absolutely exhausted that we need some reprieve from our own relentless internal pressure. True self-care is not salt baths and chocolate cake, it is making the choice to build a life you dont need to regularly escape from. And that often takes doing the thing you least want to do. It often means looking your failures and disappointments square in the eye and re-strategizing. It is not satiating your immediate desires. It is letting go. It is choosing new. It is disappointing some people. It is making sacrifices for others. It is living a way that other people wont, so maybe you can live in a way that other people cant. It is letting yourself be normal. Regular. Unexceptional. It is sometimes having a dirty kitchen and deciding your ultimate goal in life isnt going to be having abs and keeping up with your fake friends. It is deciding how much of your anxiety comes from not actualizing your latent potential, and how much comes from the way you were being trained to think before you even knew what was happening. If you find yourself having to regularly indulge in consumer self-care, its because you are disconnected from actual self-care, which has very little to do with treating yourself and a whole lot do with parenting yourself and making choices for your long-term wellness. It is no longer using your hectic and unreasonable life as justification for self-sabotage in the form of liquor and procrastination. It is learning how to stop trying to fix yourself and start trying to take care of yourself and maybe finding that taking care lovingly attends to a lot of the problems you were trying to fix in the first place. It means being the hero of your life, not the victim. It means rewiring what you have until your everyday life isnt something you need therapy to recover from. It is no longer choosing a life that looks good over a life that feels good. It is giving the hell up on some goals so you can care about others. It is being honest even if that means you arent universally liked. It is meeting your own needs so you arent anxious and dependent on other people. It is becoming the person you know you want and are meant to be. Someone who knows that salt baths and chocolate cake are ways to enjoy life not escape from it. -Brianna Wiest [Illustration: Yaoyao Ma Van As Art ]

19.01.2022 I am feeling proud. Reading Rebecca Solnits book Hope in the Dark, I am inspired by her explanation of how change starts with stories of alternatives, ideas, inspirations that bubble up in the shadows then grow in hearts and minds until they become mainstream. Rebecca writes... the first people to have espoused it will be forgotten, since they were kooks, extremists, and impractical dreamers. That was my experience for years campaigning for environmental, global and clim...ate justice being called sensitive, a bleeding heart, an idealist (those were the polite words). We wore those labels like a badge but activism is HARD particularly when you cant see how your goal can be achieved. What we enjoy today is NOT POSSIBLE without activism. I am committed to sustaining and supporting activists. Let me know what you need. #sustainactivism #counsellingforactivists See more

17.01.2022 In the flux and uncertainty of current times, your nervous system maybe overworking, making you feel anxious, panicky and jumpy. Yoga (movement, breath and meditation) can be seriously helpful for calming down and taking the edge off your stress. I have transitioned my regular weekly yoga class to online through zoom! If you want to join from the comfort and safety of your own home (Mondays at 9:30am) let me know and I can send you the details.

17.01.2022 Fantastic workshop coming up in Brisbane in a few weeks- maybe I will see you there!!

16.01.2022 Emma Brindal is a skilled and compassionate facilitator sharing the work of Joanna Macy. Great opportunity for anyone grappling with despair of the enormity of environmental suffering.

15.01.2022 Pandemic emergency measures and prepping for post-pandemic reconstruction can reasonably feel like another urgent activist task. The task list is seemingly never-ending. Transformation to a saner world where humanity thrives alongside all other beings on this wonderous planet is no short-term task. Ask yourself what do you need to sustain yourself - your heart, your mind, your body, your community. Being your best self and showing up whole-heartedly takes care and attention. Get in touch if you want some support.

15.01.2022 I think I love this line the best.... Despite the abundance of Kit Kats on the shelves There is no future for us without bees, or fish, or forest

15.01.2022 Beautiful short essay about investing energy, emotion and commitment to the great turning - based on the work of Joanna Macy and her peer Chris Johnston. Grieve the losses occurring everyday and use your love of the planet to be part of the transformation. "Sharing and honouring our grief for the world is a pathway towards building resilience and strength." https://theplanthunter.com.au//on-the-other-side-of-loss-l... https://theplanthunter.com.au//on-the-other-side-of-loss/

01.01.2022 I am feeling so grateful that more and more people are speaking out about climate change crisis. Great news today from the doctors declaring climate change an public health emergency.https://www.abc.net.au//climate-change-a-public-/11726770

01.01.2022 Its heartbreaking at times to be an activist, and it feels as though there has never been greater urgency to act. The breadth of destruction combined with recalcitrant political and economic elites makes it tough to sustain momentum. We have to take care of our precious selves. Our hearts, body, mind and spirit are the greatest campaign resources we have. Please get in touch if you need extra support. I have mental health accreditation which means you can get a medicare rebate for sessions. Call, email or message. https://www.facebook.com/sustainactivism
