19.01.2022 Did you know? Your household recycling is being transformed into everyday items like park benches outdoor decking egg cartons and takeaway packaging Local recovery facilities such as Tambo Waste in Gippsland have upgraded their capacity to recover and reprocess more plastics, paper and cardboard, thanks to funding through our Recycling Industry Transition Support grants. As a result, an extra 138 tonnes of material was recovered for recycling by Tambo Waste over the l...ast three months. Commingled kerbside recycling is also more efficiently separated into recyclable materials, so these can be sold and made into new products here in Victoria. So your emptied cereal box or old envelope is sorted from other recyclables and sent on to manufactures, where it gets moulded into egg cartons or wine-dividers found at local stores. On the other hand, your recycled plastic, is finding even more inventive ways to go unnoticed, by mimicking the look of other materials. Your milk bottles (made from HDPE plastic) are being used to make outdoor decking, park benches and even wheelie bins See what else your recycling is being turned into, and how we can all play a role by getting our recycling right at home

18.01.2022 More construction waste can now be sorted, recovered and used again thanks to new funding to support Victoria's resource recovery infrastructure. Through our Resource Recovery Infrastructure Fund, Dandenong-based firm, Commercial Tippers has converted an old landfill site into a recycling facility that now reprocesses up to 60 tonnes of timber, soil, concrete and brick waste per hour. Bricks are crushed and used in construction and manufacturing, while recycled soil and timbe...r are made into landscaping products and garden supplies. Recycled timber that cannot be reused is being used to produce renewable energy instead of consuming gas, thanks to our Bioenergy Infrastructure Fund. This funding supports Victoria's transition to a circular, climate resilient economy and our 10-year action plan and policy, Recycling Victoria. 05.01.2022 10.8 million tonnes of materials were recovered for reprocessing in Victoria during the 2018-19 financial year. This is an increase of 8% over the previous period and was driven by major infrastructure projects in the construction and demolition sector. A higher recovery rate is good news. But there’s still more work to be done. Other materials like plastics, have low diversion rates. To meet this challenge, future programs and funding will prioritise infrastructure that i...mproves the sorting and reprocessing of plastics, paper, cardboard, glass and rubber, so we can build stronger markets for recycled materials. Our data is supporting the transformation of Victoria's recycling sector into one we can rely on. Through data, we can measure the performance of our recycling system and identify what areas require more investment to ensure we make the most of the resources we have. Needing to be replaced every 12 months for quality purposes, Bendigo Health sought out a suitable recycler who would accept the polypropylene curtains, once in baled form, to ensure no physical contact or handling needed to take place. The initiative has so far successfully diver...ted approximately one tonne of curtains from landfill and is fostering a community sense of patient and employee pride with posters displaying the program throughout the facility. This eliminated up to 102,000 tonnes of greenhouse gases - equivalent to taking 27,000 cars off our roads Read more key insights from two new reports into how waste is managed in Victoria https://www.sustainability.vic.gov.au//09/Data-paving-the-
