25.01.2022 Our role as Osteopaths is always rewarding, but theres certainly something special about our pregnant patients. We find the Belly Pillow is very useful and enables our pregnant patients to lye prone (face down; on their tummy) which tends to be very comfortable- of course if the mother is not comfortable with this, theres always an alternative position and/or technique. Special thanks to this expectant mother who allowed us to take her photo. Its most appreciated

22.01.2022 In these confusing and unprecedented times, it is very easy to get caught up in the panic and worry. Please try to remain calm, adhere to the guidelines given by our Department of Health and show kindness to others. At Sutherland Osteopathy we value the health of our patients, our community and ourselves. As such we have planned, prepared and implemented numerous procedures to minimise the risk of viral transmission, and to ensure we comply with our guidelines as government registered healthcare providers. This is a changing and developing situation, and we are ready to respond as need be. Please feel free to call us if you would like to discuss this further.

And did we laugh until we cried? Of course we did! I am so proud of this amazing group of people, of what Sutherland Osteopathy has become and what it represents. It couldnt happen without this group and you, our wonderful community. Thank you! Wishing you all a safe and happy Christmas

19.01.2022 This is one of my all time favourite sayings.

18.01.2022 Sometimes, being an Osteopath takes you to beautiful places like Tropical Queensland. I have been lucky enough to attend our professions annual conference and it has been fantastic! Very informative, inspiring and motivating, as well as providing the opportunity to catch up with some old friends. It definitely highlights the scope and potential of this wonderful profession that I am very proud to be a part of. And if youre wondering, yes I did manage to squeeze in a nighttime swim in that gorgeous pool #CairnsOsteo2018

17.01.2022 At Sutherland Osteopathy, we are in complete support of the Government’s recommendation to stay at home unless it is essential. The Government is also encouraging Allied Health clinics to stay open when possible in order to help with the health and well-being of their local community. This message is to inform you of the changes we have made to make this clinic a safe place for you to come, when you feel you need to do so. In addition to what we have explained in recent em...ails, we are: - taking the temperature of all patients and their carers on arrival with a no touch thermometer - requesting that all patients and their carers sign a declaration regarding COVID-19 risk factors and exposure. - using single use face cloth and hand towels - thorough sanitation of the treatment rooms commonly touched areas between patients and replacement of all linen. - regular hand washing and ease of access to hand sanitiser at all times - adhering to social distancing in the reception area. - adhering to the 1 person per 4sqm rule in the reception and treatment areas. - practitioners are wearing face masks when they are unable to adhere to the social distancing guidelines. We hope this answers any questions or concerns you may have. Please feel free to contact us with any queries you may have.

16.01.2022 I stumbled across this beautiful proverb today- lets all embrace this!

15.01.2022 We would like to introduce our fantastic new associate, Lauren. Lauren has moved to Sydney from Tasmania via Melbourne. She is inspired and inspiring, not to mention motivated and absolutely up to date with current research and practices. Lauren has appointments available on Tuesdays and Saturdays (yes youve read that correctly- we have another practitioner available on Saturdays ).

15.01.2022 Sometimes it only takes a small adjustment, or maybe a few small adjustments, to have a significant impact on your work and overall body comfort. Consider this at work, but also at home for those days you are working from home We can thank Lauren for this great resource!

13.01.2022 Invest time, effort, good choices, kindness and in some cases money, and watch things flourish

12.01.2022 Heres our lovely Natalie, all ready to check someones blood pressure. What have you done for your health and well-being today? Maybe some clean eating, exercise, meditation, or a health check up?

11.01.2022 Factsheet regarding COVID-19 from Australian Health Department.

10.01.2022 Yesterday we started the day with some strengthening exercises for this very fit and active middle aged gentleman. After recovering from an acute episode of low back pain, we feel that with some gluteal strengthening and the McGill Big 3, hell be back on his surfboard in no time. The reason we like this time efficient program is that it engages the so much of the lumbar musculature (ie the abdominal wall, quadratus lumborum, latissimus dorsi, the erector spinae muscle group and multifidus) allowing balanced stability and strength in multiple directions. https://livestrong.com//392341-stuart-mcgills-big-three-b/

08.01.2022 This week I have the privilege of attending a Research Summit with AHPRA. AHPRA is the national agency that regulates health care providers across a wide range of professions to ensure that you, the general public, receive quality care in a safe and professional manner. If youre interested in knowing more about it, let me know

08.01.2022 And so as they say, when one door closes, another door opens. We would like to welcome our new Osteopath, Kate. Kate is a New Zealand graduate with almost 6 years of experience and she is an absolute Gem- as a person and an Osteopath. We feel incredibly lucky to have her working along side us and feel very confident that you will too

08.01.2022 And here is another illustration showing ergonomics in the car. An issue we commonly come across is people sitting with the R hip/side of pelvis, shifted slightly forward to reach the pedals more easily. Generally speaking, when sitting, no matter where you are, think: 1. Lift the chest (sternum/breast bone) 2. Shoulder blades (scapulae) down and back 3. Pelvis level and square... We hope you have a lovely weekend

07.01.2022 Sadly, sometimes this doesnt hit home until ones health is compromised. We only get 1 body- lets try to do something everyday to improve or maintain the one youve got.

06.01.2022 Who are your Sunshine People? And do they know it?

06.01.2022 Today was Justines last day with us at Sutherland Osteopathy. Even though we always knew Justine wasnt available to stay with us for long, this day seems to have come around a bit to quickly. We are simultaneously sad to see her go, but oh so excited for her and her big trip. Good luck Justine!! Stay safe and please keep in touch

06.01.2022 Those who enjoy eating pizza together, enjoy working together Thanks again for yet another fun and laughter filled work dinner girls

04.01.2022 At Sutherland Osteopathy we believe that cupping is a fantastic technique for addressing fascial tension in various areas of the body, particularly the thoracic spine. Today we used cupping, along side manipulative Osteopathic techniques to address thoracic pain during training in this young athlete. Thanks for allowing us to photograph and share

03.01.2022 Osteopaths have numerous techniques at their disposal, or to put it another way, many tools in our toolbox- this is one of the many reasons I chose Osteopathy. For many Osteopaths who have decided to partake in further training, dry needling is one of them. Weve been using dry needling at Sutherland Osteopathy for near on 8 years, and while we completely understand it isnt for everyone, we do find it a useful part of our treatment approach. If you would like to learn more about dry needling, or how we apply this technique, we would be happy to discuss this with you over the phone or via email. I hope you have a lovely weekend.

03.01.2022 Wishing you all a happy, healthy, but above all else, a safe Christmas

03.01.2022 Hi Everyone, This is a great, no nonsense article about how we can calmly and sensibly manage ourselves over the next few weeks and months. Im confident there will be a silver lining to this pandemic. We can use this situation to assess how we live our lives and what we prioritise in our actions versus what we prioritise in our hearts. ... 02.01.2022 Recently, the Sutherland Osteopathy team got together at a Dr Libby Weaver seminar all about Womens health but in particular, our hormones. This seminar is not specifically for health care professionals- anyone can attend! Dr Libby has a real knack at presenting the complexity of the endocrine system and the way our modern way of life impacts upon it. Her explanations are beautifully simple, yet detailed and along side ideas and suggestions of what we, as individuals can do to optimise our endocrine function. You only get 1 body and its amazing! Please look after yours
