21.01.2022 As life changes very rapidly for all of us, we can begin to feel very overwhelmed and anxious. But while there is so much in this world that we cannot control, there are a few things we can do right now to help set us up for our new normal. Attached is a tip sheet from the Australian Psychological Society about how to maintain our mental health during social isolation... There are some really useful tips regarding staying connected, avoiding conflict and tension when you are living with someone 24/7, and setting up routines and structure to help kids and adults who are now having to do school and work from home. Please have a read and remember to seek assistance if you need to. Medicare has now made Telehealth sessions available so that people can still access psychological support during these difficult times
20.01.2022 "Check yourself. Sometimes you are the toxic person. Sometimes you are the mean, negative person youre looking to push away. Sometimes the problem is you. And ...that doesnt make you less worthy. Keep on growing. Keep on checking yourself. Keep on motivating yourself. Mistakes are opportunities. Look at them, own them, grow from them and move on. Do better, be better." Youre human, its okay. (Unknown) artwork by instagram.com/myr.illustration

20.01.2022 Gone are the hunter-gatherer days where men had lengths of time to connect and work together in a local space. I like to think of these guys as men who got bored around a barbecue and became creative. How do men find their tribe now, connecting wth other men? Its important for mental health, support and a feeling of belonging.... It could be a sport, mens shed, interest group, neighbours, work colleagues, volunteer groups. Find your male tribe and do stuff together.

16.01.2022 For the men.. Dads advice. Heres an example of the power of good, manly advice. Its great to have a good male role model in a father. If you didnt, can you think of other great men in your life? If youre still stumped, have you watched them on the screen? More so, can you be a male role model to someone who needs it?
16.01.2022 Wasting Time Some activities, like watching TV, can be used for relaxation if managed properly. But people will often watch TV past the point of relaxation and it becomes a way to fill free time. This is similar to how people scroll through social media when they have a few free minutes. Stop these habits and instead use your free time to work towards your goal of balance. Do something relaxing or try to learn something neweven if its just for a few minutes. Deep breathing exercises, having a look around you, reading or listening to a book, doing nothing, checking in directly with a friend or doing a quick cardio routine can all be accomplished within a few minutes of free time.

07.01.2022 To our clients who are preferring Telehealth mostly via Zoom, and for future clients considering Telehealth... Great news - we are pleased to confirm that telehealth will be extended by six months. Psychologists will be able to provide Medicare rebatable telehealth until March 2021. Counselling via video has been an extremely successful option for many of our clients, some preferring to stay on video indefinitely! Studies also back telehealth- video as equivalent in outc...omes with face to face for the majority of clients. For those who want face-to-face, we are also currently in the office while COVID-19 is somewhat under control in Sydney.
06.01.2022 Yes, it is business as usual here. We have had some inquiries as to whether we are open. Sutherland Psychology continues to provide psychotherapy for our current clients and new clients as usual.... The majority of these are through Telehealth (videoconferencing or telephone calls). For many of us, these have become the new norm and some of our clients are requesting that we continue with Telehealth after COVID-18 as it suits them better! Some of the Psychologists are providing face-to-face sessions for those clients where it is clinically appropriate. Please note that your GPs now have the capacity to provide over the phone mental health appointments and referrals/plans. We look forward to seeing all of our current and new clients.

Our Psychologists at Sutherland Psychology continue to provide psychotherapy sessions while you stay at home. We welcome the governments latest COVID-19 specific funding for Telehealth services. ... We are moving to mostly Telehealth (phone and videoconferencing) sessions in the interest of public health and safety. Some sessions with low risk clients, where it is clinically appropriate, may be approved face to face by individual Psychologists. Telehealth is a great way to stay in contact and many clients are preferring it over face to face! Medicare Medicare-rebated bulk-billed telehealth/online therapy sessions are available for all Australian citizens and permanent residents. This means that there CURRENTLY will be no out-of-pocket expense for Medicare clients during the COVID-19 pandemic. Clients can continue on their current plan or obtain a better access plan through their GP, who will also now be able to provide phone/video consultations. Please call 9545 4147 to speak to our wonderful front desk staff to look at these easy options for you.
