11.01.2022 #PetOfTheWeek We need a pre-Christmas miracle for young Edgar This one-year-old is barely past kittenhood and all he needs for Xmas is a caring home. See, Edgar is a scaredy cat. He doesn’t understand that humans can be caring and kind (see pic 1). But he’s slowly coming around (pic 2). Edgar’s new owner/s will need to be calm and patient with him as he comes to terms with the comfy life. Shelter staff say Edgar is still full of that kitten joy. They’ve caught him on ma...ny an occasion tossing his toys around, playing with the cat grass and pulling the stuffing out of his bed (he makes his own fun). The adoption fee for Edgar is $194. This includes microchipping, lifetime registration, desexing, vet check and vaccination, up-to-date worm and flea treatment, as well as a collar and Council tag. 07.01.2022 Today is World Shorebirds Day! Sutherland Shires beautiful coastline is home and refuge to some noteworthy avian residents including the critically endangered Eastern curlew. This remarkable bird, the worlds largest migratory wader, travels around 10,000km to and from Arctic breeding grounds each year. The number one way *you* can help protect the curlew: Keep your dog ON LEAD in designated areas and AWAY from areas dogs are not permitted (for example, Woolooware B...ay Shared Pathway). The Eastern curlew is a notoriously wary bird (being critically endangered, this isnt surprising) and can be easily disturbed, which can be devastating to birds that have completed the human equivalent of running at 70km/hr, day and night for more than 7 days straight non-stop. So if you see them, give them some space keep 100m clear where possible.
