24.01.2022 Now for something extremely special! Our Grand Temples cornice is 15ft deep and made up entirely of brightly coloured mosaic. On its western side are two Doric... pillars (representing strength of knowledge) flanked by Euclid and Pythagoras. In the centre is Euclids 47th Proposition, a symbol worn by a lodges Past Master. Supported by the columns is the Moon encircled by an ancient symbol of wisdom, the serpent. A serpent devouring its own tail is known as an ouroboros and is often said to symbolise infinity or the perpetual cycle of birth and death. Kenji Kudo / kudokenji.com

20.01.2022 #OnThisDay 6 February 1981; Harold Gordon Stalker, a well respected Mortdale resident and business owner passed away. Harold along with his wife Nellie, founded... and built Mortdale Motors in the early 1930s. He was a Freemason and had a lot to do with the runnings of Mortdale Masonic Hall (Woronora Masonic Lodge Temple), later becoming one of three in the world to reach a 33rd degree and united by the Grand Lodge of Australia. Harold was also President of Mortdale Progress Association and was the first club president of Mortdale Recreation & Bowling Club when it opened on 7 November, 1953. He later had a crack at politics standing as a Liberal Party candidate for the seat of Banks in 1954. Harold Gordon Stalker (7/11/1905 - 6/2/1981) was a well known identity amongst the community and truely lived life to the fullest. Passing away on this day at the age of 76 and laid to rest at Woronora Cemetery See more

14.01.2022 We are now outside the mighty bronze doors of our Grand Temple! Designed by acclaimed English sculptor Walter Gilbert (who also designed the gates of Bucking...ham Palace) each door measures 12ft by 4ft and weighs an impressive 1 tons. The doors relate the biblical account of the building of Solomons Temple, an important narrative element in masonic ceremonies. This detail depicts the dedication of the temple with prayer and thanksgiving. They are so perfectly balanced you can push them open with a single fingertip. Come try for yourself some time! bit.ly/VisitingFMH Photo Kenji Kudo / kudokenji.com

12.01.2022 VIEWERS POST thanks to Tony. #OnThisDay 9 September 2010, work commenced on the demolition of Mortdale Masonic Hall despite many efforts from locals to halt the... buildings destruction! Tony writes.... "Mortdale Masonic Hall was built in 1922, was once an important social feature in the Mortdale district - wedding receptions and political meetings were held here, and even dance classes (the curiously named Bjelke Petersen classes seen in this 1979 picture in comments for example) and the regular spot for Scottish Country Dancing evenings. In 1987 it was still going strong, but on the 7 July, 2010, Hurstville Council reversed its decision on the buildings heritage listing and the building that once stood proud in Mortdale for the past 88 years was demolished for a 41-space car park In my childhood it was an imposing structure, and its loss was unnecessary". 03.01.2022 RECENTLY I travelled down to Nowra, New South Wales and drove through towns that have been affected by the recent and current bush fires and Id like to share s...omething special with you all. South Coast freemasons lending a helping hand to Disaster Relief. "Its about more than just money!" The recent efforts of the Young Masons Social Group, Freemasons generally and their wives/partners and children in providing support for victims of those affected by the recent fire catastrophe must be recognised and applauded. The initial collection of clothing, toys, personal hygiene products, bottled water and food organised by the YMS group was overwhelming with truckloads being delivered down to the Nowra Unity lodge rooms on Sunday 5th January. Brethren, ladies, friends and their children were all involved in the collection, transportation and unloading of the donated goods and apart from the intent of the exercise, many new and close friendships were formed. Daves Removals, a local Nowra business, offered the use of a removalist van and RWBro Glen Green drove two loads of water, food and hygiene essentials together with clothing down to Lodge Milton where the goods were unloaded by local Brethren and members of the Mollymook Surf Life Saving Club Inc. Within two days, everything donated was distributed to deserving persons from the Milton Showground. For the following three weeks, goods in Nowra Unity rooms were sorted into type and size of clothing by lodge member and wives and it was at that time, the generosity of our Brethren and families was fully appreciated. The number of brand new items purchased for this exercise was truly astounding. We had been warned that the majority of clothing donations would be redirected to the garbage tip but this was definitely not the case. Sure, some goods were considered unworthy of keeping and these were dispatched with the assistance of RWBro Michael Freeman-Robinsons skip business. Packages were sent to the NSW RFS - Shoalhaven in South Nowra and when the urgency for clothing diminished in favour of cash donations, local charities and churches were contacted with offers of assistance. The Anglican Opportunity Shops in Nowra and Bomaderry gratefully accepted many deliveries of the sorted clothing in addition to two other local church groups. The Nowra ladies arranged the lodge South with tables of clothing and a sale was undertaken on Saturday and Sunday last weekend. Cash totalling $1,350 was collected over the two days with all remaining goods to be delivered to local charities on Tuesday 28 January by Nowra Unity members. So, was this all about just the money? What about the close friendships that have been formed by Brethren and their ladies in performing the charitable acts that we profess so much to admire? What about the people that we have directly and indirectly helped? What about the publicity that we have received in the local newspapers? What about the fact that some hundreds of the public in the South Coast area now know who we are and what we do and perhaps even the local churches may have a different opinion of the Order? Congratulations to everyone involved in this charitable exercise and may the benefits gained extend past our small yet valuable contribution to the needy and be the beginning of greater involvement with the public. --------------------------------------------------------- Freemasons Illawarra and Shoalhaven Freemasonscc Central West Freemasons District No. 24 Freemasons Association District 26 Masons NSW and ACT Eastern Suburbs District 37 Freemasons Association (NSW & ACT) Inc Freemasons in the Hunter Region Freemasons NSW & ACT Freemasons Northern Beaches Lodge City of Newcastle Lodge Enterprise No. 400 Lodge Wagga Wagga Museum of Freemasonry Region 2 NSW Freemasons Activities Sutherland Shire Freemasons United Supreme Grand Chapter NSW and ACT United Grand Lodge of England Bill Hosler, PM Charles Buchanan Freemasonry Squared Freemasonry Today On The Level Robert H. 02.01.2022 SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT BUSHFIRE AND DROUGHT RELIEF Freemasons NSW and ACT making a difference ... Vast areas of NSW and the ACT have been devastated by the continuing depredation of drought and the sudden onrush of bushfire. As your Grand Master, I am proud to announce the leadership team of Freemasons NSW and ACT has prepared a comprehensive plan to give immediate and practical assistance to affected communities throughout our jurisdiction. The plan involves all elements of our Order and is aimed at coordinating and mobilising the resources of the Craft: Grand Lodge, its boards and committees; individual Lodges and most importantly every Mason. I want us to provide the best possible level of co-ordinated and practical assistance to those who have been left wanting and in need. Many Freemasons have already taken action and are donating material to organisations. This is to be congratulated. My request now is that we maximise our efforts by creating the one state-wide campaign. This is an opportunity to make a larger, united contribution to those who so desperately need assistance. NSW FREEMASONS DISASTER RELIEF FUND Following discussions with the Commissioner of the NSW Rural Fire Service, Shane Fitzsimmons AFSM, our first donation of $100,000 will be made to the NSWRFS to supplement its assistance to RFS volunteers and also the widows and children of those firefighters who tragically lost their lives defending their communities. Our aim is to make further considered donations. In order to be able to do this, I ask the broader NSW and ACT Masonic community make donations to the Disaster Relief Fund so we can make further targeted donations to relieve the distress of those affected. I appeal to all Lodges, Masonic entities, individual Freemasons and the Masonic Orders and Organisations of this Jurisdiction to make significant donations. All donations are tax-deductible and can be made in the following ways: Direct Bank Transfer It is faster, simpler, takes 30 seconds and goes directly into the Disaster Relief Fund account. The BSB is 032006 and the A/c is 254876. It is essential you put your surname and initials and "bushfire appeal" in the description field. If you want to claim it as a tax deduction, pdf the transaction record to Masonicare - [email protected] and you will be sent a receipt. In less than a minute, you will have helped make a difference. Cheque Made payable to the NSW Freemasons Disaster Relief Fund and posted to Freemasons NSW & ACT, PO Box A259, Sydney South NSW 1235 By Phone (from Monday, January 6 2020) Telephone Freemasons NSW & ACT on 02 9284 2800 and provide credit card details. MASONIC ACTION SATURDAYS We have a statewide network of Masonic buildings that make an ideal donation drop off centres. In order to marshal this resource, I am asking that, from Saturday 25 January 2020, Masonic Centres open on a roster basis to receive donations of clothes, toys, food items and items of practical use that can then be distributed to those in need. These Masonic Action Saturday openings will continue to be rolled out as the campaign progresses. Centres will be asked to become central collection points and I propose to involve our Regional Grand Counsellors, DGIWs and local brethren in the selection and operation of these venues for this purpose. Think now about how you can spread the word to your local communities (especially those unaffected by these twin disasters) and encourage them to make donations that can be delivered to your local masonic centre. LODGES Local Freemasons are best placed to know their local communities. This is why I am asking local Lodges to identify individuals and families in their area who have lost loved ones, property or are otherwise affected by the combined tragedies of bushfire and drought. I encourage Lodges to use any accumulated funds to provide practical assistance to local communities. The support should be tailored to meet the personal needs of the individual. In some instances, cash grants may be appropriate to allow the recipient to purchase without embarrassment or undue intrusion items of a personal nature. In other cases, direct payments to local businesses may be the best way of ensuring needs are met. Or, it may simply be the gift of companionship, compassion and consideration. Where we can, we should be seen to be supporting the local communities in the affected areas. HOSPITAL VISITATIONS We must remember firefighters, volunteers and others who have been hospitalized as a result of this ongoing tragedy. Hospital visiting by Masons is a practical way to show we care. It also enables us to find out what assistance the Craft can render to those who have been injured and their families. Here also, a cash donation from a Lodge might be a most appropriate solution. A CONTINUING COMMITMENT There is going to be a need to provide continuing assistance. It is safe to predict the scars of this tragedy will be present next Christmas. You have my assurance that, under my leadership, our Craft will continue to action practical assistance and in this regard drought and bushfire assistance will be a standing agenda item for the future meetings of Masonicare, the Board of Management and the Executive Council. I welcome and seek submissions and suggestions for future action all of which will be given proper consideration in the future planning process. I state firmly that Masonic assistance is to be rendered to all those in need: irrespective of the creed, race or social status. Whilst we are all Brethren, all those who have suffered are our brothers and sisters. Further announcements and updates will be regularly made through my newsletter. We can and will make a difference Derek J Robson AM Grand Master
