Im not sure if childhood risk assessments quite cut it to deal with the catastrophic nature of a fire where stairs are the only way out & babies/toddlers cannot negotiate them. But we do know what does - our evacuation mattresses specially designed for a ratio of 4 babies to 1 or 2 carers. Inner city childcare centers are becoming a fact of life but the practicality of saving little lives in emergencies need to be considered.
