25.01.2022 IN PROGRESS | Libbys Retreat Meelon | My last site visit for the year to this amazing property with views to the end of the Darling Range and the Mandurah Estuary. Perched on the top of a hill the #rammedearth and #stone house is fully sustainable - with no services other than power provided to the site the design incorporates passive silar design principles, ATU sewage system, 350kLwater tanks and PV cells and battery. But while we have designed this building its the build...ers #mcleishandmathews and (pictured) #westmcleish and @michael_keally_stonemason as well as #perthstabilisedearth #alanbrooks supported by our suppliers #westecdoorsandwindows and others that make it happen with their professionalism and craft. 23.01.2022 FLASHBACK FRIDAY | BEDFORDALE HOUSE 20092013 | Sometimes a project comes your way that you know will change your professional life for the betterAn amazing brief, beautiful, gentle smart clients and a budget that was realistic. We never designed this project with awards in mind having never entered any project before at the time but with the clients blessing builder George Allingham[Gransden] and SHA entered a few and won the majority including Architecture Awards for Resid...ential and Interiors, the Timber Industry Award and the HIA Australian Home of the Year. This project was a team effort, and these were the icing on the cake. We are all so proud of this project and are still in touch with our clients. In fact, we are now completing a Pied-a-Terre for them in South Perth called The Pad. You can catch up with the progress by following our video diary of progress on site. See more

20.01.2022 FOLIO FRIDAY | Witchcliffe House | There are a few projects that have changed my practice and as a result they are very special to me. The first was Witchcliffe House. It was on the back of this wonderful project that I set up my current practice. My clients are now wonderful mentors and friends to me and are the most amazing advocates for my practice. I feel their house is a timeless piece of architecture and Im very proud of it.

As a community we should be demanding #eachforequal for every day for our sons and daughters! I am also proud of the legacy that I will leave as the first female elected President of the WA Chapter of the Australian Institute of Architects in 2017 since its establishment in 1896. The first and last, new home of our clients, adventurous octogenarians, it is comfortable in its own skin. 15.01.2022 A BIG THANK YOU | As we approach the end of a decade and look forward after a very tough few years for the construction industry (some say the worst since WW2) I think it is important to reflect on the past 10 or even 20 years. In 2000 we thought the world would fall in on New Years Eve! I was married and my youngest son wasnt even a dream. In 2010 I was divorced with four children; I was building a home with my new partner + old friend @neilcowniearchitect blending t...wo families. @suzannehuntarchitect was only 5 years old and had only a handful of projects under our belt. In the last decade we have worked on a huge number of projects and seen nearly 20 projects built! I am so proud of the SHA team lead by my associate of 15 years @catherinebayol.lee working along-side our wonderful staff and an extended team of professional consultants, suppliers and builders. Catherines commitment to our practice is unheralded and immeasurable allowing me the opportunity to advocate for our profession when President of the Institute, establish #WorkWomenWisdom, sit on Boards, and present on @aubydesign. Thank you so much Cat! I am forever grateful to our wonderful clients and thank you for choosing SHA you are and will always be our main priority. In the first quarter of 2020 we will have 7 very diverse projects on sites from Margaret River to Gidgegannup; we will launch our new website and start on some interesting new projects. So exciting! Personally, the last 5 years and particularly the last 12 months have been tough, but I have found solace in my beautiful family and coming to work each day. I am so grateful for this privilege and thank all of you who have supported me. I look forward to taking a month off from work and social media to spend time with family and friends and to recharge! 15.01.2022 IN PROGRESS | Stone House Gidgegannup | Site Visit #9 | A sweltering 38degree day for our last site visit for 2019 to this beautiful project. The #colourbond sheeting is on the tulip roof and the landscaped roof is underway to form the green stem. So wonderful to get up to the upper lounge and capture the 360 degree views to the valley and bush - best of all the cooling breezes wafted gently in. In fact this passively designed sustainable holiday house was cool throughout #go...oddesign. Our #Ronchamp inspired living corridor works a treat. We sincerely thank the team! builders #JohnLawton from #RkBrine you have done a wonderful job on a complex building, our consultants, suppliers, and our wonderful clients. Again exceptional stonework by @michael_kealley_stonemason. The stone was collected from the site and surrounding paddocks and the mix and layout matched to the owners original cottage built by her Dad in the mid 20 century by hand. 14.01.2022 FAMILY | Today marks the first anniversary of my beautiful Mum’s passing. I miss her intrepid spirit, her cheeky, blue sense of humour and her empathy. Mum loved people especially her girlfriends, her daughters, her grandchildren and Dad (not that she would ever tell him!). Together they loved and challenged each other. I love this photo of Mum feeding me in Spain in ‘64 as they camped around Europe and Northern Africa looking at buildings as it typifies her adventurous s...pirit, patience with dad and love of life. Today I remember her peaceful passing surrounded by her daughters and eldest granddaughter at SCGH. Open to the public these 7 minute presentations are followed by a short Q&A and are a great way to get a feel for your community particularly if you are looking for an architect! No pressure for me this year as Chair Of Juries Ill be sitting in that stalls getting a few ideas! #architects

01.01.2022 FAMILY CONNECTION | Its 5 years today that my wonderful Dad Peter Hunt passed peacefully after a long battle with cancer. He lives on in our memories and we think of him often...What would Dads advice be now?..or Dad would love this little shack or can you imagine how angry Bardi would be at that bloody umpire? We miss him so much but know that he is happily having a laugh and Pierro with Mum now. So it was lovely when visiting new clients recently for a refurb project in my old haunt of City Beach, to see the original refurb was done by Dad in the 70s. In addition to the original prints with his handwritten notes they found this in the store! What are the chances! It was such a lovely surprise. #peterhuntarchitect

It throws a bridge to the past rediscovering an intimate complicity with nature. Marco Poletti of Ecologic Studio discusses the history of green architecture and our need to reconnect with our past in a inspirational lecture last night. The theme of climate change mitigation, the total non-reliance on fossil fuels and mandated circular economies in the next 20 years has been a common thread in all the presentations leaving me to wonder how our government can ignore the effect on Australia financially and environmentally?
