25.01.2022 At Bonner Oval today a wonderful group of women joined together for the McGrath Foundation’s Pink Stumps Day to paint the oval pink. As well as having a wonderful day (and painting the oval very pink) the event raised funds for breast cancer research. Thanks to Sanjay and Jasmin for organising!
25.01.2022 A re-elected ACT Labor Government will provide better support for students in our local public schools. We want all children, no matter their background or circumstances, to have the best possible access to learning. That’s why ACT Labor will trial free breakfast and lunch three days a week for students at five public schools, prioritising schools that will benefit most.... It is no surprise that the evidence shows that kids learn better on a full stomach, and this commitment will build on the great community run breakfast clubs already providing meals in some schools. This initiative will be supported by a new team of youth and social workers who will support wellbeing in our public schools.

24.01.2022 Yesterday was such a fun day, celebrating the immense diversity in our little community of Yerrabi and I was very proud to join with Andrew Barr ACT Chief Minister for a special announcement. In August 2019, Deepak-Raj Gupta - MLA and myself brought forward a motion to the Legislative Assembly calling on the ACT Government to investigate the feasibility of a large-scale venue suitable for hosting multicultural and other community events. A re-elected ACT Labor Government wi...ll create hundreds of new local jobs by investing in a new 10,000m2 indoor venue at EPIC to host such events. The venue will be the first, purpose-built facility in Canberra that can cater for large multicultural performances and private events such as weddings. The new facility will also be available for regular EPIC users, including trade shows, business events, the farmers market, Summernats and the folk festival. A commercial kitchen and community kitchen would be installed in this facility with the community kitchen allowing for self-catered events. This new facility would accommodate (in non-pandemic times) around 1,500 people for standing community events, and provide a seated option for up to 1000 guests.
20.01.2022 The ACT Government recently announced that two large solar battery storage systems would be built in the Territory under the terms of the Government’s fifth renewable energy reverse auction. ACT Labor made the ACT the renewable energy capital of Australia, and we want to build on that achievement. We think that Canberra can achieve something even bigger. That’s why, if re-elected this October, ACT Labor will start work to deliver one of the biggest renewable battery storage... systems in Australia. ACT Labor’s Big Canberra Battery will deliver at least 250MW of battery storage ensuring lower electricity prices and a more stable and resilient power grid. This major Canberra project will be significantly bigger than the Hornsdale Battery in South Australia, which is being upgraded to hold 150MW of storage.
19.01.2022 The Canberra Model Railway Club has been meeting in one of the rooms at Kaleen High for a while now. With members making amazing model trains, mentoring students, enjoying each other’s company and today throwing a party as the club turned 60! It was also the day they honoured former club president Peter McEvoy who passed away at the start of the year. Over the last few months club members have been working on completing Peters final model which was unveiled today by his sons and named in his honour.
18.01.2022 Nothing like a rainbow to brighten a rainy day of campaigning!
17.01.2022 It’s been a rough year and the things we love have had to be done a bit differently but that didn’t stop the Gungahlin Jets from coming together last night to celebrate their season. It was one of the liveliest High Flyers Balls anyone has ever seen and left no one in doubt that Jets Fly Together. A huge congratulations to all the award winners and a big shout out to Louise Mama Jet Hambleton who was made a life member!
17.01.2022 ACT Labor is investing in new and improved playgrounds including the construction of a destination playground in the Inner North and upgrades to Ngunnawal and Kaleen facilities. This $5.4 million investment will create local jobs over the next four years contributing to Labor’s goal to grow our employment base to more than 250,000 local jobs by 2025. Each project will be different, and may include upgrades to the existing playground or adding new play facilities like a na...ture play, climbing structures and bike pump tracks. Following the successful construction of the playground at the arboretum, a re-elected ACT Labor Government will also invest $2 million in a district playground in the inner-north. Labor will consult with the community on the exact location and facilities that are provided at this new playground.
14.01.2022 I’m committed to protecting our local environment and taking real action on climate change. Together with our community I’ve proudly fought to keep the ACT a nation leader on climate action and delivered important initiatives to ensure we are looking after our city’s environment, including: Establishing Canberra's first reusable coffee cup scheme... Listing the Franklin Grasslands as a protected nature reserve Delivering more green space in the Gungahlin Town Centre Supporting the ACT reaching 100% renewable electricity With your support at this year’s election, I’ll continue to be a strong advocate for protecting our local environment and creating new renewable energy jobs to support our entire community.
14.01.2022 We treated ourselves to a potato scallop from Kaleen Takeaway after a few hours of doorknocking this afternoon. I reckon they might be the best potato scallops in Canberra - what do you think?
13.01.2022 Campaigns are always supported by wonderful people who give their spare time to spread the word about the Labor cause. Today over a sausage sandwich I got the chance to thank a bunch of people who helped out up here in Yerrabi. Here’s to the next four years!
13.01.2022 ACT Labor understands the urgency with which we must meet the challenge of our climate crisis. We worked hard to transition Canberra to 100% renewable electricity and we continue to make the investments we need to ensure our status as nation leaders when it comes to climate action. A re-elected ACT Labor government will continue the rollout of our strong climate change plan because it is the right thing to do.... Not only will our plan help preserve the environment we love so much in the Bush Capital, it also makes economic sense. Renewables are the future of energy generation and that means good, secure jobs for Canberrans if we make the right investments now. Our plan will create more than 2000 enviro jobs right here in the ACT while protecting the environment. A vote for ACT Labor is a vote for Canberra and Canberra workers.
11.01.2022 Early voting is now open! You can find your nearest early voting centre at www.voteearlyact.com.au. I hope I can count on your support so that together we can continue to deliver real action for our community.
08.01.2022 Gungahlin is one of the fastest growing regions in the county and we are committed to providing the services it needs as it continues to welcome new community members. ACT Labor has a strong record of delivering on our promises and investing in public schools to keep pace with Canberra’s growing community. Under a re-elected Labor government, families in Canberra’s north will see a new $85 million high school in Taylor and a new $35 million primary school to meet forecast gro...wth in public school enrolments in North Gungahlin. Construction on the high school in Taylor will commence in the 2022-23 financial year. New school builds of this size generally take 2 years to construct. A new primary school will meet the growing demand in North Gungahlin, and ACT Labor will start construction on the new school early in the next term of Government. ACT Labor will also increase capacity for college students in Canberra’s North through a $50 million investment over the next term of Government. A re-elected Labor Government will work with school communities at Gungahlin College and Dickson College on these plans.
08.01.2022 Three years ago today Australia got a little bit fairer when the country (and overwhelmingly Canberra) said Yes! I remember one of good friends dancing in the the street saying she was only going to wear mother the bride outfits now both her sons could get married, other friends looking forward to being married fully under the law and everyone just being glad the wider community overwhelmingly supported our community. It was a huge milestone, see you all at Yes Fest tonig...ht to celebrate this wonderful anniversary!
