24.01.2022 PHYSICAL LITERACY IS VITAL - especially for players aged 11 and younger!! Have a watch of these clips and see the difference in Chelsea’s (7yo) lateral movement. In the first video - It’s the start of the session and we’re evaluating Chelsea’s movement. You can see her feet are narrow, her legs twist across and she’s struggling with her coordination, balance and speed. ... In the second video - after a few fun physical literacy games that work on teaching her how to move with balance, speed, coordination and power - she’s flying. Her legs are solid and wide, her head is controlled, her legs are moving much more smoothly with her body and she has the platform to perform her technique with more stable base. And this was only her first session!! The discovery phase is vital for young footballers - and allowing kids to just play with freedom is undoubtedly the priority and the most important part of their footballing development. But we can also use that enjoyment and passion they find in the game to work on their balance, coordination, speed and movement to entrench good physical habits. And it’s so important to do that while they’re young and developing their motor patterns. Physical literacy is fundamental to helping kids (especially girls) grow up with foundational movement skills - and is a massive component of the work we do with young players. And once we’ve built good physical habits, the technical development happens significantly quicker. Just wanted to share these coz I was super proud of Chels in her first session

22.01.2022 Let’s go!!!! It was so good to see the girls from our Port Lincoln Clinic at the SAPSASA carnival today. Their level was UNREAL with three dominant performances - with fantastic skills, unbelievable energy and tons of fun. ... It’s so good to see the game continuing to grow in the area and the standard football continuing to thrive in the area. And.... it was amazing to hear the girls telling their SAPSASA teammates about the lessons they learned at the clinics. Amazing work girls!! Keep pushing forwards (And shout out to Poppy for doing the aeroplane celebration like I asked her to!)

14.01.2022 An absolutely unforgettable day at SWAG Pro Camp on day 2. We had the BRILLIANT Emma Sharkie come in to deliver an interactive presentation on sports psychology, dealing with pressure, and goal setting. The girls soaked it in, applied it to their training, and the growth was rapid. The coaches began to step back, the players began to take control, and you could see on the field the quality elevate, the confidence grow and the effect of them taking ownership. ... At the heart of it all - the girls are making each other better, and it’s special to see the moments that that mindset has created over the last couple days. Can’t wait for tomorrow. Let’s go

09.01.2022 With no clarity on when Victoria will allow large scale events to be held, Australian Football Skool have decided to cancel the 2020 AFS Shepparton Cup that had been proposed to be held in late October in Shepparton. A responsible decision, obviously. Still, we’re very sad to learn that there will be no Shepparton Cup this year. Looking forward to going back in 2021 to defend our title

09.01.2022 AAAAAAND THATS A WRAP FOR DAY 3!!! What. A. Camp. Football can be a conduit that helps us understand, evaluate and elevate ourselves. Once you help foster a desire and passion for the game - then every training session brings with it a level of intensity. Within that intensity - we’re forced to consider who we we are when we face adversity, victory, triumph, failure and loss. Those lessons build us as athletes but they also build us as people. ... To get those lessons though, you need a squad full of players committed to ensure that that mindset and mentality are part of everything you do. It requires a squad. You need players who want to make each other better. That was the theme of the camp. Make each other better. And these kids achieved that - and then some. In every little moment, on and off the pitch, there was a genuine desire to elevate the players around them. They helped each other through tough moments, create an environment and culture where players get comfortable to try and fail, and genuinely care for each other in what was a physically, mentally and personally intense few days. Because they were committed to making each other better, those important lessons that we can learn about ourselves through the game could be achieved. The girls set their own goals, worked on achieving them, and developed because of them. They learned all the tools - S&C, psychology, dealing with pressure, nutrition, recovery, taking care of their bodies - that they can take with them through the season to continue achieving those goals. You could see it on their faces - they got so much out of the camp. They used the game to elevate themselves as people. It was beautiful to see. They could only achieve it because of their outstanding character, and their desire to make each other better. What a camp. Let’s go MASSIVE THANKS TO OUR OUTSTANDING TEAM!!! Bronny. Katie. Alice. Dani. Mia. Emma. Dana. Dave. The team we had for the camp was incredible. So proud of our group. You all got so much out of the group. It’s such a privilege working with such an incredible team.
