24.01.2022 Name: Shiri Synan Age: 54 Town: Bendigo Occupation: Exchange Coordinator, La Trobe University... Years of attendance at Swan Hill Primary School: 1971-1977 What is your funniest or fondest memory of your time at SHPS? Choir practice and traveling to Choir Eisteddfods at Ballarat and Bendigo, Skipping (rope), Swap cards, Yo-yos, Show and Tell, Hopscotch and walking home for lunch (I don’t think that’s allowed now??) How do you think your classmates would remember you? They mostly wouldn’t! (I was very shy!) What do you consider to be your greatest achievements since your time at SHPS? Of course my family (husband and 3 grown up children) I am very proud of them. I am also grateful to have lived a full and active life despite living with a chronic illness since late teenage years. I was fortunate to have been selected for a year long Exchange to Japan in Year 10 (thank you Swan Hill Rotary club!) and it influenced many of my career decisions from then on. I studied Japanese language at Monash University, and returned to Japan for my honours (4th) year. When I graduated I worked as a translator/PA at Toyota Motor Corporation Australia. This was followed by years of part-time work in various positions while I raised a family. I now find myself in a position at La Trobe University where I am enabling a new generation of students to go overseas on Exchange so I have come full circle! I love my job as I get to travel to wonderful countries and meet with very excited students ready for adventure. How do you hope you have Inspired current SHPS students? The world is a wonderful and exciting place. If opportunities don’t seem to come to you go and find them! And remember to count your blessings even when times are tough.

18.01.2022 Our fabulous new Prep students strengthening their hands and fingers during Fine Motor Friday.

18.01.2022 The Preps had so much fun at their break up today!

18.01.2022 This week the Preps are using their teddies to investigate measurement. So far it’s lead to some excellent discussion around the difference in length, smallest and largest.

17.01.2022 Today the eldest child in the family received a ‘Parent Helpers’ and information booklet. We look forward to welcoming all of our wonderful parents/carers back to SHPS. If each family can put their name down for one or two of the roles it would be our best year yet! *We are having a real focus on getting as many helpers as we can into our school canteen Who knows maybe even a record number of Dad’s?

14.01.2022 Name: Ali Webb Age: 24 Town: Melbourne Occupation: Teacher of prep students with Autism Spectrum Disorder ... Years of attendance at SHPS: 2002-2008 What is your funniest or fondest memory of your time at SHPS? Grade 6 camp to Melbourne, most of the class getting off the tram but it taking off before everyone did and Greg Allen sprinting after it in the middle of the road and Mrs. Benham looking a little worried. How would your classmates remember you? The overly confident one who loved a lunch order. Greatest achievements since time at SHPS: Being accepted into the Aspire program at Latrobe University for my community contributions and graduating with a double major in primary/special needs teaching. And educating 4/5/6 year old children with special needs remotely during a global pandemic! How do you hope you have inspired SHPS students: I hope I have inspired current SHPS students to use their schooling to figure out what they love through volunteering and work experience, and then turn that into a career path. If you don't do what you love, you will never love what you do.
