23.01.2022 Seems we might have scared a few residents out Brigadoon way last night, who could have been forgiven for thinking 2020 was about to get weirder - mysterious mist shrouded lights were seen flickering out over the hills until 1am... It was us - sorry!! Swan SES attended a commercial property to secure a roof which had partially blown off and presented a hazard to the public. 21.01.2022 Severe Weather Warning Hey folks! We hope you enjoyed the sunshine over the weekend because we're in for a wet and wild week ahead and yes, we're talking about the weather! ... Here's some handy tips to remind you of ways to stay safe and secure outside, on the road and around your home! The Department of Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should: * If outside find safe shelter away from trees, power lines, storm water drains and streams. * Close your curtains and blinds, and stay inside away from windows. * Unplug electrical appliances and do not use land line telephones if there is lightning. * If boating, swimming or surfing leave the water. * Be alert and watch for hazards on the road such as fallen power lines and loose debris. * Keep away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways. * Be careful of fallen trees, damaged buildings and debris. * Be careful of fallen power lines. They are dangerous and should always be treated as live. * Assess your home, car and property for damage. * If damage has occurred take photos and contact your insurance company to organise permanent repairs. * If your home or property has significant damage, like a badly damaged roof or flooding, call the SES on 132 500. 20.01.2022 Severe Weather Warning Update The following wind gusts have been recorded: 107 km/h at North Island (offshore from Geraldton) at 9.54am.... 96 km/h at Geraldton airport at 11.04am. The high tide at Busselton peaked at 1.9m at 10.15am, 0.5m above the predicted tide. The high tide at Fremantle peaked at 1.7m at 10.45am, 0.4m above the predicted tide. The high tide at Jurien Bay peaked at 1.7m at 10.45am, 0.4m above the predicted tide. The high tide at Bunbury peaked at 1.5m at 10.45am, 0.4m above the predicted tide. This is a rare event for WA particularly due to the extent of the area affected and the possibility of multiple areas of dangerous weather. If your home or property has significant damage, like a badly damaged roof or flooding, call the SES on 132 500. For all other emergencies, please dial 000. 19.01.2022 NATURAL HAZARDS EVENTS IN THE CITY OF SWAN Some of our biggest impacts from Natural hazards have occurred in February and March (March hail storm 2010; Storm Feb 2011 - 84 requests for assistance in Swan; and Flood event Feb 2017). Swan SES are at Bunnings Ellenbrook today until midday, sharing information to help you prepare yourself, your family, pets and homes from natural hazards emergencies!... 17.01.2022 TAKE ACTION TO PREPARE FOR SEVERE WEATHER! UPDATED MONDAY 10 JUNE 2019, 5AM *Note latest BoM update shows a possible increase in winds from 100km/h to 110km/h (Cape Leeuwin recorded a wind gust to 109 kilometres per hour at 2.17am WST Monday morning). In addition, small hail is now expected Monday and Tuesday morning.... The Swan State Emergency Service have responded to 10 requests for help already over the last 2 days of wet and windy weather. Starting tomorrow (Monday 10 June), a series of cold fronts are expected to produce damaging winds up to 110km/h, further rain and small hail. These conditions will continue through to Tuesday. (Earlier BoM advice was Sunday night into Monday afternoon) The Bureau of Meteorology have issued a Severe Weather Warning which includes the CITY OF SWAN and SHIRE OF CHITTERING. Please prepare yourself, your family, pets/animals and homes. Follow advice from BoM and DFES on what to do before, during and after a storm and keep safe. 17.01.2022 Sorry weve been quieter than usual with posts, but it has been a busy couple of weeks for us! Last week we had volunteers out on searches for 8 consecutive days, followed immediately by a string of storm damage calls on Good Friday. Then finally we had a team called out on Easter to Walyunga NP to assist with an injured hiker. Great work team!

17.01.2022 Congratulations to State Emergency Service and Bush Fire Service volunteer Mr Ronald ‘Tex’ McPherson, worthy Emergency Service Medal (ESM) recipient at today’s Australia Day Honors. Tex has been a State Emergency Services (SES) volunteer for 22 years and is current serving with Swan SES and East Swan VBFB. He has helped the community prepare for and recover from hundreds of incidents, including missing person searches, floods, cyclones, severe weather and assisting at major bushfires. Well done Tex!

STN 3123 post recently their brigade doing the #TetrisChallenge to show off all their specialist equipment, so we wanted in on the fun too! 16.01.2022 SEVERE WEATHER WARNING Its that time again folks! Weather Situation:... An area of heavy showers and thunderstorms is developing over the southwest of WA ahead of an upper level trough. Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding over the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Katanning, Mandurah, Narrogin, Northam, the Perth Metropolitan area and Yanchep. The Department of Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should: * If outside find safe shelter away from trees, power lines, storm water drains and streams. * Close your curtains and blinds, and stay inside away from windows. * Unplug electrical appliances and do not use land line telephones if there is lightning. * If there is flooding, create your own sandbags by using pillow cases filled with sand and place them around doorways to protect your home. * If boating, swimming or surfing leave the water. * Do not drive into water of unknown depth and current. * Slow down and turn your headlights on. * Be alert and watch for hazards on the road such as fallen power lines and loose debris. * If it is raining heavily and you cannot see, pull over and park with your hazard lights on until the rain clears. Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureaus website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 210. The Bureau and Department of Fire and Emergency Services would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.

16.01.2022 Severe Weather Warning A strong cold front is approaching the west coast this evening with severe weather possible over parts of southwest WA. Conditions will ease from the west on Monday morning. The Orange angels here at Swan SES have been working tirelessly during callouts. Already we have had teams attending 8 water egress and flooding incidents since 11am this morning and we are expecting plenty more calls to come! 13.01.2022 One thing Perthies love is a good "stormageddon" joke - but it does make us a little complacent when rainy weather comes our way. With this Thursday being the first big downpour for Winter, the SES often see a larger than normal increase in call outs for rain impacted properties. These are usually attributed to residents being caught unprepared and not checking their gutters - please take a quick moment to read the below tips to ensure you wont be one of them!

10.01.2022 Update from DFES 6:16AM Around 20 firefighters remain on site making the area safe. Department of Water and Environmental Regulation will be attending at appr...oximately 8am, Tuesday November 26th to retest air toxicity levels. https://www.emergency.wa.gov.au/ Update from DFES 12:44AM The fire is now contained and under control but there is a lot of smoke that is visible and impacting several suburbs in the area. Air quality in the area is being monitored and although no air toxicity levels have been detected at ground level, dense smoke and odours may cause irritation, sore eyes, coughing, a runny nose and an asthmatic response. Update 5:20PM A structure fire advice remains current for South Guildford with an industrial building on fire on Hyne Road. Firefighters are on scene at a structure fire Hyne Road, South Guildford. 07.01.2022 FIRE CHAT Western Australians are being urged to be bushfire-ready this season and with all that is going on over east, it is a reminder to us all that we should have a 5 minute chat with loved ones about putting a bushfire plan in place. Did you know that the single biggest killer is indecision? If you live in on or near bushland, you are at risk from a bushfire and developing a bushfire survival plan is absolutely critical. Being prepared for a bushfire can help save yo...u and your loved ones lives, your property and your livelihood so have that 5 minute chat with your family, be it in the car while youre doing school or work drop off, at the dinner table or over breakfast while everyone is getting ready for a brand new day. 07.01.2022 Be prepared Perth and stay safe on our roads! Severe Weather Warning for Damaging Winds. An approaching cold front will sweep across the South West Land Division during the afternoon and evening.... Thunderstorms and showers associated with the front may produce damaging winds, averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts to around 100 km/h southwest of a line Bunbury to Walpole, which could cause damage to homes and property. The potential for damaging winds will extend to Perth and Albany from about 5pm. Squally showers and thunderstorms will occur behind the cold front with damaging winds expected to extend throughout the warning area. Conditions will ease early on Saturday. Thankfully, the severe weather warning has been cancelled but as the weather is unpredictable, here is some info to keep in mind. WEATHER DETAILS: ... At 05/08/2019 17:18:00 the Bureau of Meteorology advised although thunderstorm activity is expected to continue over southern WA this evening, severe thunderstorms are no longer expected.
