20.01.2022 QUANDONG- originating from the Wiradjuri word Guwandhhang is a fruit rich in indigenous history. Dreaming stories often reference a symbiotic relationship between quandongs and emus. The birds eat the fruit in large quantities, swallowing the nuts. Their stone-filled crops begin the digestive process so that as they wander the landscape they excrete a ready supply of quandong nuts whose germination is assisted by fertiliser. Aboriginal people recognised the role of the emu ...in aiding their distribution. The location of quandong groves was well known to local Aboriginal groups who harvested the fruit in quantities for short or long-term use. The fruit can be eaten raw but dried fruit was particularly valued because of its sweetness and its ability to be preserved and readily transported. Dried fruit was peeled from fallen quandongs and excess fruit dried, pounded and rolled into balls or cakes for later use. This dried fruit could then be reconstituted with water into a paste that formed an important food source in times of scarcity: ‘It’s really good when you don’t have meat’Pompey Everard (journals.plos.org) Rich in phenolic based antioxidants, Vitamin E, folate, zinc, magnesium, calcium and iron. It is most known for its extremely high levels of bioavailable Vitamin C. We made an Amaro with locally cultivated herbs celebrating indigenous botanicals and bitter tonics. Rich in quandong, we have only limited amounts left of this digestive. Celebrating NAIDOC week, honouring the First Nation people of our land today and always.

17.01.2022 New SVW logo. The artwork by Gemma Ben-Ary symbolises our love for nature: botanicals, gnarly old vines and the beauty of the fruit the grape produces. Our labour of love. The south west province of Western Australia is shaped by 40 thousand years of indigenous land management, protecting the incredible diversity of flora, as witnessed by the all seeing tri-headed kangaroo. ... The vine (Vitus vinifera) has travelled from the old world, which is represented by the antlers. Its also metal as... Thanks to Gemma @gemmajbenary and Aron @anarchyscd for bringing our vision together.

13.01.2022 Take us back to this exquisite wine and bush food bliss ball pairing. We had the pleasure of meeting Em from @theflackyard in MacKay, Queensland last week. Her and her husband Nik have opened a beautiful restaurant there specialising in native bush foods, local organic produce (a lot from their own garden) matched with natural and/or organic wines. Were so excited to work together. ... We also share a strong passion for native indigenous bush botanicals. All native botanicals are purchased from small local aboriginal communities. Working together and learning more and more about their potential health benefits and potent antioxidant chemical constituents. Em brought us a trio to taste! These included Wattle & Cacao, Chocolate Truffle Truffles and Anti-Ox Apricot Delights. Rich in Beta Caryophyllenes and Amandamides. Native botanicals included Wattleseed, Pepper berry, Gubinge and Geraldton Wax. Easily the best bliss balls Ive ever tried! So excited to work together and eventually get over there and try Niks incredible looking native degustation!
13.01.2022 Sorgiovannis incredible produce. Spoilt to fresh olive oil from their farm, as well as dried herb and brined olives. All grown just up the road on Campersic. 11.01.2022 Intense concentration and attention to detail is needed over the next couple of weeks as we taste all of our wines and gear up for an epic bottle run. Biggest vintage yet. Some good has come out of 2020. Pumped to finally get these into bottle. The Cabernet Franc is tasting the goods today. Delicate raspberry compote, herbal notes and a little sour cherry. We have two barrels and cant wait to drink this juice in spring.
11.01.2022 NEW RELEASE MATARO Rhun Lavell 2019 Following on from his sister Mourvedre Ivy Maureen in 2014, it was only fair that we dedicated the new single vineyard to the birth of our son Rhun. This sure resembles his mighty big character too.... The 2019 single vineyard Mataro differs from our existing vineyard sources in that the fruit comes from very old vines at 300m asl, which is fairly elevated by WA standards. The higher diurnal range and heavy red clay soils provide for a very intense wine, which requires taming in the winery. This was acheived through fementing whole berries with a comparitively short and cool extraction and maturation in barriques for 12 months. An ultra rare varietal expression of a unique site. Mischievous and cheeky too, just like Rhun. A party in the mouth! We love this variety on its own!!! Tasting notes to to come. Released just for people with pyjama party tickets!
10.01.2022 Sorgiovannis strike again. We havent had much luck with our olives this year but were pretty lucky to live up the road from these legendary olive producers. Help them out with some vino making and get these in return. Rhun, our two and a half year old loves them! Dried salty herby olives for weeks. Perhaps. Very grateful!
10.01.2022 Warmed up. Homemade spanakopita pie, snuggles and a little heirloom.
10.01.2022 Borghesi and sausage rolls! Thanks @mikebennie101 for the write up in the @deliciousaus magazine! This was the first traditional sparkling we made, paying homage to Borghesi! He owned our vineyard back in the forties and planted the first Chenin vines for the Intention of creating traditional Italian sparkling. Were trying this match on the weekend!
10.01.2022 Spring releases coming soon.
09.01.2022 Pumping over the Skins. Uncle Anton is helping out today... we’re prepping for another epic vintage weekend. We’ve just sold out of the 2020 Skins but more is on it’s way.
08.01.2022 The original and the best! Thank you @theupcyclinggypsymutzs Hoff and I grew up with one of these. Still so much fun!
07.01.2022 Ros filled clouds. Incredible how much the sky and land change within the year out here.
07.01.2022 On Monday Perth went into lockdown and I was reflecting on how lucky we are to live on 15 acres of vineyard in a log cabin surrounded by vines and bush land to explore from our doorstep. It is a real luxury. On Monday night we were evacuated from our home and winery, due to the threat from the Wooroloo fires tearing through Gidgegannup and the Perth hills above us. It moved so fast. The heat and wind have been relentless. We were rapidly upgraded into the red zone, where ...we were told our lives were at threat if we stayed in Baskerville. We left immediately, without time to grab much at all. We have been able to stay with family in the safer part of the Perth hills in Darlington, we’re still here. So very lucky to be able to retreat here. My heart goes out to those who have nowhere to go. The swiftly setup shelters and generosity from the community has been so heart-warming. So much land has been devastated, over 70 houses and so much wildlife. The firefighters have been incredible, tirelessly fighting these fires for four days now. We’re so grateful. The fire has gotten so close to us. Less than five minutes away tearing through beautiful Walyunga National Park and Bells Rapids where we often visit as a family. It’s looking better today but is still out of control, unpredictable and is heading north threatening more homes and wildlife. We’re really looking toward to going home, when it is safe to do so. We send our sincere condolences to others who are suffering through bushfires in the City of Swan and Shire of Mundaring. We have donated to the Lord Mayor’s Distress Fund and we encourage you to as well. Every little bit helps. Donate at www.appealswa.org.au Much love, Bree, Hoff, Ivy and Rhun Xx
06.01.2022 Pt-Nat: Ptillant Naturel 2020 This Missing Piece Lovely post by @gourmetblizzard Thank you for the review and description as well as some fun facts about Pt-Nat. A laborious (but fun) method of creating natural bubbles.... Sara: What do you think of #petnat? . . I am usually not a fan of Pet Nat, but I found my Missing Piece thanks to @swanvalleywines - scroll the pictures: the label was created by Bree Lavell the artistic mind behind Swan Valley Wines labels . . From #swanvalleywines website "Enjoy the simpler things in life with a refreshing bubbly." . . Some facts about Pet Nat . . Pet-nat is made with what is known as the ancestral method, which is the oldest version of sparkling winemaking with origins in France: the wine is bottled before primary fermentation is finished, without the addition of secondary yeasts or sugars. . . Pet-Nats have a light and fizzy mouthfeel and are generally low in alcohol. . The bottles are often cloudy, due to remaining lees presence and lack of filtration. . . Pet-nat can be made with red or white wine grapes, and is usually dry and sometimes slightly sweet . . In my glass . . 2020 "The Missing Piece" Pet Nat - Chenin Blanc, Semillon, Zibibbo. Method Ancestral, 100% natural, zero additives, minimal intervention. Cloudy lemon peel Grapefruit, pears, green apple Grapefruit, green apple, chamomile and lemon tart. Well balanced and super refreshing. Perfect breakfast bubble. Thank you Bree and Paul, for making even Pt-Nat so special!

03.01.2022 Forage & Shakes Its that time of year again when we get covered in mulberries and make as many milkshakes with them as physically possible. This beauty of a tree was planted way back when our first vines were. Every year they sprout up very quickly with bud burst and then copious amounts of purple berries. The yield we get here is usually a good sign of how the grape yield will go. Its looking the goods already. Happy Spring!
01.01.2022 Sneak peek of our new logo. Stay tuned. Stoic. Old world. Gnarly vines included. New crest. Coat of Arms. Artwork by beautiful local artist friend Gemma Ben-Ary.
