25.01.2022 HOW'S THIS FOR A RESTORATION PROJECT! A piece of Bunburys past is being restored in a Harvey workshop. The historic jetty crane is being refurbished as part of an extension of the State Governments Transforming Bunburys Waterfront project. ... Through its Jetty Road causeway upgrade, the Department of Transport (DoT) is ensuring the Arrol crane continues as a landmark for future generations. Dwyer Engineering is carrying out the restoration works from its Harvey workshop, working with Bunbury-based WML Consultants who completed preliminary studies and will provide technical support. The crane, which was built in 1911 by Sir William Arrol and Co Ltd in Glasgow, was one of several located on the Bunbury Timber Jetty and used to load and unload ships. Transforming Bunbury's Waterfront is a State Government project coordinated by the South West Development Commission and delivered in partnership with Department of Transport, DevelopmentWA, the City of Bunbury, and Bunbury Development Committee.

18.01.2022 Bunbury's Halifax Business Park has a new slip lane! The turning lane increases safety and improves ease of access for vehicles entering the precinct. The road works were carried out as part of a wider enhancement project made possible by a $3 million State Government investment coordinated by SWDC.... The road upgrade component was project managed by the City of Bunbury, with local contractor JAK Civil delivering the works. Great to have Bunbury MLA Don Punch and the Halifax Working Group's support.

The project will see the redevelopment of the goods shed building (pictured) and surrounding area. The project will better connect the public space on both sides of the railway heritage precinct and the Apple Fun Park. ... At 90 per cent complete and the key management team appointed, craft brewery Shelter Brewing Co is on schedule to swing open doors in late October. We are supporting the project through a Regional Economic Development (RED) grant. Our grant will support the purchase of a brewing system and canning production line to enable the sale of packaged beer from the venue for national and international markets.... Licensed for 650 people, the venue is 1,078 square metres on the ground floor, 427 square metres on the first floor and sits on an 1,850 square metre site adjacent to the Busselton Visitors Centre.

Yesterday, Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan visited Margaret River to announce $3.08 million towards the final stage of the Margaret River Main Street Makeover. The project is set to further stimulate work opportunities for local ... contractors and suppliers as part of the State Government's WA Recovery Plan. South West based company Busselton Civil and Plant Hire has been appointed as the lead contractor for stage three on the Shire of Augusta Margaret River-led project. Stage three of the project involves civil, electrical and landscaping works for the 'Hill Precinct' between Willmott Avenue up to the new Wallcliffe Road roundabout. The cutting-edge, advanced skills training centre includes a dedicated autonomous vehicle training facility.... The State Government contributed $2.7 million to the facility, its latest investment from the $20m Collie Futures Fund which is aimed at diversifying Collie's economy and creating jobs. The training centre was jointly developed by WesTrac and the landowner, Bluewaters Farm Holdings, at the Coolangatta Industrial Estate, near the Bluewaters power station.

07.01.2022 The lithium industry is an economically significant resource sector for WA. We want to look at how we can support a first-class supply chain to allow the industry to grow alongside community expectations that amenity is maintained. A total of $3.8 million has been allocated by the State Government towards a full feasibility study that will look into the viability of a rail-based supply chain solution to support the South West lithium industry.... The study, which we are coordinating, will look into upgrades and new infrastructure at the Port of Bunbury and Kwinana Bulk Terminal to support the export and downstream processing of lithium concentrate in the South West. The study will build on work to date and include design work to ensure the States ports can support a rail-based supply chain.

07.01.2022 Talk about putting Collie on the map! The South West town is now home to the WesTrac Technology Training Centre - the first of its kind in the southern hemisphere. The centre was officially opened today by Premier Mark McGowan, Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan and Collie-Preston MLA Mick Murray.... The cutting-edge, advanced skills training centre includes a dedicated autonomous vehicle training facility for the resources industry. The training centre is only the second of its type in the world focusing on the technical skills needed to operate autonomous equipment for use in the resources sector, which are in rising demand globally. With an initial focus on Caterpillar mine haulage vehicles, the centre is set to attract technicians from resource companies from other Australian States and the wider Asia-Pacific region once borders reopen. The State Government contributed $2.7 million to the facility, its latest investment from the $20 million Collie Futures Fund which is aimed at diversifying Collie's economy and creating jobs.

06.01.2022 The South West's lithium industry is generating exciting new job opportunities. Albemarle Corporation has announced it will begin a large-scale recruitment campaign. The campaign will support staffing of the lithium hydroxide plant under construction at the Kemerton Strategic Industrial Area. ... Over the next 16 months, the company plans to fill a variety of job openings. Once complete, the project will have a capacity of 50,000 tonnes per year of lithium hydroxide and create more than 300 operational jobs. 03.01.2022 Great news for local film buffs! Audiences in the South West will be among the first in Australia to see the highly anticipated film Dirt Music, which will screen at CinefestOZ next month. Dirt Music is based on the critically acclaimed novel by iconic Australian writer Tim Winton. It will screen at the closing night of CinefestOZ at Orana Cinemas in Busselton on Saturday, 29 August.

03.01.2022 OFF AND RACING AGAIN There's something special about the power of sporting events to bring people together. And on Friday January 1 2021, there was a fantastic turnout of fans who came together to watch sprint cars race at Bunbury Speedway, with Bunbury MLA Don Punch speaking at the official opening.... A big shoutout to everyone who made the venue's first sprint car event of the season possible. There was a team effort in getting the venue up to racing standard, and we are pleased to have helped with $30,000 in State Government funding. The funding went towards the urgent repair works necessary for racing to go ahead at the venue this sprint car season. Immediate improvements were required for the speedway to achieve the national standard for events in 2021 while the speedway resolves longer term works required to ensure accreditation beyond 2021. Race runs attract visitors from outside the region, providing a boost to the local economy each season.

03.01.2022 READY TO RACE The 2020-21 sprint car season is back on at Bunbury Speedway, with help from the State Government. The State Government provided $30,000 towards the urgent repair works necessary for racing to go ahead at the venue this sprint car season.... Fans can catch sprint car action at Bunbury Speedway this Friday January 1 2021.

The artist is renowned throughout the world for his photorealistic large scale murals, which have turned structures into icons in Portugal, Canada, the United States of America, Poland, Italy, Iran and more....
