25.01.2022 The South West District Football Netball League is delighted to announce that they will be hosting a Junior Netball Competition for all junior grades. The competition will be for the following age groups 11 & Under, 13 & Under, 15 & Under and 17 & Under. Seven of the SWDFNL clubs will be represented and we are excited that the Penshurst Football Netball Club and the Casterton-Sandford Football Netball Cub will be joining our netball competition for the 2020 season. The game...s will be played in Portland, Casterton and Hamilton pending council approval, and we are hoping that the competition will kick off on Saturday the 18th of July at 10.30am with the 13 & Under and 17 & Under matches followed at 11.45am with the 11 & Under and 15 & Under games. There will be 10 rounds with the Grand Finals for each grade to be played on the 26th of September. There will be strict Covid-19 policies in place which all clubs, players and supporters must adhere to. These can be obtained from the respective club contacts or the Netball Victoria website. We are so pleased that our Junior netballers have been given this opportunity to get back out on the courts and are looking forward to some great netball action over the next few weeks.

25.01.2022 Donate now to the Club Support and Future Fund here: https://asf.org.au/projects/afl-western-district/ The Future Fund will act as a support to clubs who may s...truggle or experience hardship due to the impacts of COVID-19. If every one of our 10,000 participants across football and netball donated just $10, we would raise $100,000 in no time! ALL donations over $2 are tax deductible. 24.01.2022 AFL Western District has approximately 10,000 registered members across Western Victoria participating in Australian Rules Football and Netball. The number of v...olunteers, family and supporters associated with clubs is significant in the district. AFL Western District is committed to ensuring the survival of all clubs through this challenging period. Our clubs provide an essential social hub to rurally isolated communities and are a key support for the vulnerable. Sponsorship, gate takings and functions are key revenue channels for clubs. All of these revenue streams are expected to be severely hampered by the emerging crisis. Clubs have fixed costs to maintain operations - examples being utility bills, ground rental, liability insurance, ground maintenance and others. Join us by making a donation today, so that when the shutdown ends, all of our clubs can successfully bounce back. You can donate directly by clicking here: https://asf.org.au/projects/afl-western-district/ Or for further details about the crowdfunding initiative, please click here: https://asf.org.au//afl-western-district---club-support-a/

24.01.2022 Netball Victoria Affiliate Pledge As a proud Netball Association /League, we are very grateful that Netball Victoria has demonstrated sound decision making - both now and in the past - for the overall benefit and longevity of our sport. As a sport, we have always done a lot with a little. And this is evident now more than ever. ... In an environment where some multi-national corporations have faltered, a small, not-for-profit state sporting organisation, is still chugging along. It’s not quite business as normal working environments, staff hours and the way netball is delivered have all had to change but it is business as usual. Netball Victoria exists to improve people’s lives, and we are thankful that they will withstand the pandemic and be there to support organisations like ours and our Clubs now and into the future. Our Association/League is also in a sound position. Things will be difficult, but with the support we receive from both Netball Victoria and our community, we know we will be okay. In all areas of our lives we have been forced to adapt over recent months, and netball has been no exception to this. But at the end of the day we #PlayForTheLove. And the small sacrifices we have had to make will soon seem a distant memory when we are back on the court and thriving once again. A strong Netball Victoria is important to us, not just for our Association/League, but for the overall longevity of the sport we love. At this time, we are strongly encouraging our members to pledge their 2020 Netball Victoria Membership. Your Netball Victoria Membership is an investment in the future of our sport. Having a Netball Victoria Membership is saying, yes, I support my Association/League, my Club, my Coaches and my Umpires. It’s saying I love my netball, and I want to see it thrive on the other side. https://youtu.be/zDrx1-vbsOM

23.01.2022 - A message from Defib For Life - Reminding all clubs to ensure that all defibrillators are being maintained and are in working order. Defib For Life is a NF...P foundation that since 2010 have worked tirelessly to help sporting clubs implement life saving defibrillators. In Victoria alone last year there were 95 Victorian lives saved because of the use of public access defibrillators and the willingness of bystanders to get involved. Since 2011, Defib For Life (DFL) have been a preferred supplier to AFL's clubs in Victoria. Many clubs would have received a $300 grant provided by WorkSafe to purchase their Defib For Life, 7 year defibrillator package. Defib For Life urgently needs your support to ensure that all defibrillators we placed into AFL clubs remain functional. We are currently contacting all of those clubs to establish if their defibrillator is currently Rescue Ready, unfortunately in many cases club contact details have changed so we are struggling to contact them all. Most clubs have been diligent in maintaining their defibrillator, but we do know some have not. The replacement of expired pads and batteries are crucial to maintaining a Rescue Ready defibrillator and by now most of those club's who received the $300 WorkSafe grant will be responsible for the cost of up keeping their defibrillator. Given that defibrillators have been responsible for saving so many lives at football venues since 2011 we hope that all clubs will choose to maintain a Rescue Ready defibrillator. Our fear is that some won't due to either a lack of funding, lack of understanding or ignorance. Our aim is to avoid a situation were a cardiac arrest occurs at a venue and the club defibrillator is not functional. We intend to send emails to all of our contacts to offer them our new Defib Maintenance Service.

17.01.2022 A little Rooie needs a helping hand.... On Friday the 13th of November one of our league's own Shauni Morrissey and her partner Tom received the news no parent wants to hear, that their daughter Annie had Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia. They have been ensured that this is ‘the best’ type of cancer she could have with a good recovery rate, but the road ahead for the family of 5 will be long and tough. Annie is a bubbly, adventurous and cheeky almost 3 year old w...ith the whole world at her feet. She is just the kind of strong willed girl that will fight this with everything she has. This diagnosis means a lot of trips back and forth to Melbourne for treatment. This will have a huge impact on the young family. They also have 1 year old twins at home in Portland to care for, they both work casual jobs and rent a house in Portland, so the financial impact due to what could be many days or weeks away at a time for treatment with no income, will be huge! Any donation no matter how big or small to ease the tiniest bit of stress will help! Our hearts go out to you Shauni and family, we hope your little battler gets through this tough time. Stay strong! SWDFNL members, cancer is blind to club colours, although we may have rivalry on the fields and courts we are hoping you can put it aside.....if you are able to donate, please do....no matter your club, we are still one League #everylittlebithelps #8clubs1league #strongertogether #cancersucks https://www.gofundme.com/f/annies-brave-battle

02.01.2022 **OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT** The SWDFNL Advisory Committee and it's member Club's wish to advise our members and supporters that our 2020 season has been officially cancelled. Notice was given today to AFL Western District of our decision to cancel the 2020 season. This decision was not taken lightly, and the Advisory Committee would like to acknowledge and thank our Club Presidents and their respective Committee's for being forthcoming, open and honest within our discussion y...esterday evening. The biggest concern for all Clubs is the health and well being of their players, coaches, supporters and volunteers, due to there being so many unknown variables in relation to restrictions on contact training, competition contact play commencing and crowds, our Club's feel that the best and safest decision moving forward for their members and volunteers is to cancel our 2020 season. We believe this decision is in the best interests for all those involved within our League. Our members health and safety are our Club's and the League's top priority. We believe that at this point in time, the risks out way the benefits when it comes to running a competition in the current COVID-19 environment. As a League our Club's will now be focusing on moving forward in preparation for season 2021. Our Club's and the SWDFNL Advisory Committee will be united in their efforts to ensure our competition gets back on it's feet in 2021. Whilst our season will not be commencing, as a League we fully support any return to Junior Football and will support our neighbour Junior league GSWJFL in any decision they may make in regards to a possible season in some format for our young players. Whilst this may not be the outcome everyone was hoping for, we ask that you support our Club's & League's decision and move forward with season 2021 in your sights. We will be back and we will be stronger than ever.
